I met two long term girlfriends on twitter. That doesn’t seem possible these days. Like, at all. I used to interact with so many people regularly, most in a friendly manner. That never happens anymore.

Nah Twitter’s algorithm, as well as Threads’, is absolutely dialed the fuck in. Guaranteed to make you feel something negative within 60 seconds, damn near. Twitter’s been like that for a couple years now I feel.

I have a friend whose gf was arrested after she hit him. He didn’t call, they were called because she was screaming. She’s seemingly made his life even more hell than it was, and he feels obligated to ensure there’s as little fallout as possible from this. My state didn’t require the victim to press charges, they’ll often press charges regardless.

Is “Bromance” automatically disparaging? I personally don’t see it that way, although I have heard it used in such fashion. But much of the time, I feel, it’s not meant to disparage, especially given its use in movie genre discussions

Thank you for mentioning these, holy shit. Both are comments I've directly rebutted several times in the last year. One other thing while I'm here - I noticed that when men do something that isolates them, or in considered socially unhealthy, sometimes you'll see a comment talking about how this is an example of one of the reasons the suicide rate in men is so high. On posts talking about the high suicide rates in men, there's always a comment about women attempting more but choosing less deadly…

Any sexual contact between a female prison employee and a male inmate is inherently non-consensual due to the inability of an inmate to consent. Beyond that though, it’s the rates of abuse of underage inmates by female prison staff I’m sure I was trying to highlight

People call their male friends “girl” these days, that’s common enough. What could have been used instead of “guys like you?” I don’t think there’s much else that works well. “You” is very general, “people like you” is over broad.

There are a number of men who can’t handle a woman having any confidence whatsoever. Partially because self promotion is often considered a masculine trait. Regardless of the reason, it’s not cool to try to minimize women who are self confident. There are also a number of hubristic, arrogant women, who think any critique about their boastfulness is an attack on women’s accomplishments. You know how it’s expected that men are confident? Do you know how thin the line can be between confidence and …

I’m seeing this in a friend right now. She wants a good man, one that she could marry, etc. But she knowingly chooses the wrong men. The first guy, he’s coworker, and he is a known slut. Community dick. But still, she had a thing for him and they started dating. She’s vented to me about stuff he has or hasn’t done, and I just listen. She met this other dude, who told her shortly after meeting that he was going to serve time in jail for DWI. That’s okay, she waits for him to get out of jail, and …

The marriage statistics show that marriage is much more variable when the status of the man changes. Higher employment at higher incomes at younger ages in men results in lower ages of average marriage. No such association exists for women. Studies on marriage rates in different racial demographics has shown this. It’s not that men are desperate for anyone, or that women only care about resource acquisition, but on average men aren’t as selective as women in terms of mate.

I’m in Austin, I wouldn’t have thought people felt they needed to wear makeup more than anywhere else. In fact, much less so in this city. Most of my exes wore little to know makeup most of the time. I’ve never heard anyone really mention a lack of makeup, especially not a man, though I suppose that sort of discrimination is less verbal and sometimes even subconscious But I imagine if she was, say, a realtor in DFW, that’s a little bit different than an accountant in Austin.

“When there is not enough religion in the pulpit to organize a crusade against sin; nor justice in the court house to promptly punish crime; nor manhood enough in the nation to put a sheltering arm about innocence and virtue----if it needs lynching to protect woman's dearest possession from the ravening human beasts----then I say lynch, a thousand times a week if necessary.” Rebecca Latimer Felton August 11, 1897

The United States had an explicitly gendered definition up until 2013. There’s an argument to be made that the current definition is gendered as well. Penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim. Attempts or assaults to commit rape are also included; however, statutory rape and incest are excluded. So while my older female cousin made me do sexual things to her for y…

All of Europe? Big ass continent. That is interesting though. To add on to what OP is saying, I’ve seen studies that find that most women prefer an egalitarian dynamic once within a long term relationship, but prefer the more “traditional” “benevolent sexism” style of courtship that we often see/hear/think about. So, him paying on the first date, though she’s not going to want to be a SAHM (rightfully). Stuff like that.

The links you posted didn’t get into what makes it so difficult. Here’s one that goes into it though One important point - A man that takes male birth control would be taking a medication whose purpose is to prevent a health event…in another person. So the side effects that regulators would have to approve are weighted against that fact. A medication that, say, may make you depressed and infertile if you take it, but you’d be normal if you didn’t, is foreign in terms of pharmaceutical ethics. It…

You take birth control for what purpose? For many women, it’s to prevent pregnancy. Others may take it to treat PCOS, or mentrual issues. Enovid was prescribed to treat menstrual issues first, before it became birth control. Pregnancy would be a significant medical event for you, and preventing pregnancy may be worth enduring certain side effects. Further, hormonal birth control has to stop 1 egg from being released every month. A man that takes male birth control would be taking a medication wh…

This book, and perhaps to a greater extent, the movie based off of this book, have received a lot of criticism over the years. One of the primary contentions is the lack of redeeming qualities any Black man has the book, as well as her other books. Especially at a time when there was way less Black representation in Hollywood, some people felt the movie just perpetuated the same stereotypes of Black families and Black men. There was also some controversy over the movie being made by a white (Jew…

female Origin. Adopted in the 14c. from Old French femelle, it was almost at once refashioned as female to be consistent with its antonym male, an etymologically unrelated word. The OF word answers to Latin fēmella, a diminutive form of fēmina ‘woman’. In popular Latin fēmella seems to have been used to denote the female of any of the lower animals, as well as retaining its classical Latin (only Catullus) meaning of ‘woman, girl’. Uses. From the 14c. onwards female was used as both noun and adje…

“Men are much more mature than women” is something that can come across as hateful, I fear, and I don’t think it can really be substantiated. Nor can the opposite, that’s not my claim either. Just the sentiment itself comes across badly, imo. And the “privilege” part after just makes it sound like you’re saying women are privileged, but without much substantiation. I’m just concerned about how it looks to outsiders, you know what I mean? If you don’t care about that, carry on.

The “male loneliness epidemic” has such negative media attention to this point though, and nothing to base it on that is as significant as the massive disparity in deaths of despair. 4x more likely to commit suicide, 3-5x more likely to die by overdose, and I’m sure some other people include other deaths in this number too

My understanding is that there isn’t really a male loneliness epidemic. The talking point came from…I forget where, but it kinda took off without much real evidence. In the few surveys I’ve seen on this, it is true that men, on average, have fewer friends, and it’s also the case that young men especially are having less sex than before, but I hadn’t seen anything to indicate it was really an epidemic for men as much as it was truly an epidemic overall that does slightly disproportionately affect…

The immediate giveaway that this guy was at the very least still based into feminism was his use of "intersectionality" just after mentioning "anticapitalism" To be so fair, the "original" concept of intersectionality is one that we all still use in stuff we talk about. My hypothesis on this would be relative lack of experience (not that one should be very experienced in high school) as shown by later age of sexual debut of Asian students compared to Black or Hispanic students means one is more likely to verify that the a partner is comfortable with proceeding with sex. Whereas, those that have more experience may be able to read body language a bit better and less likely to rely on verbal communication.

Imagine if we declared war. Imagine if we fuck-this-shit-snapped en masse, and systematically killed men for no reason at all other than for being men. Imagine this culling starting in one country with five men a week. Then each week, this imaginary scenario would add more countries and kill more men in each of them. I share the same sentiment. However, the majority of the times I’ve seen someone legit say “not all men” these days, it’s a response to being generalized or rhetoric that implies men aren’t victimized. I must assert that someone doing something in a fiction film, even if it portrays a stereotypical archetype of a character or characters, is not inherently sexist or anything. It’s even possible that because of the way people imagine things to be, that a female abuse-denying bad cop and male good cop would prevent some people from being able to suspend their disbelief and get into the other parts of the movie.

As far back as the 1860s at least. This goes deep into the rhetoric of the time, but the first real punishments for "wife-beating" were racialized. For decades, there were efforts to portray Black families as broken and degenerate, and Black men as violent and abusive. Many suffragists and first wave feminists were racist, and used their feigned concern for Black women to push for their own enfranchisement first. Check out "The Racial Origins of U.S. Domestic Violence Law", it's incredible work.

I just don’t get how people are this dense. “Bring it up in a space where men are talking about their sexual assault” is, in an of itself, invalidating. Am I not a victim of sexual assault? Can I only talk about in certain spaces? We don’t do that for anything else, it’d be really fucked up and we started excluding specific survivors from certain spaces, so why is it different here? “You only bring it up to invalidate women” is wild as hell, because in talking about sexual assault, so many peopl…

When you see things like “all men are rapists” (to be hyperbolic) and you even think about pushing back on that by saying that women rape too, not all men are rapists, etc., it’s seen as problematic, an attempt to undermine a movement, taking something away from a victim, or evidence for why someone would choose a bear. The way you’re framing it here makes it sound reasonable for the man to withdraw. On the other end of it, Gottman’s books seem to describe withdrawing as a bad behavior that needs to stop. I’ve seen analysis of this that hypothesized the reduction in female-perpetrated partner homicide was correlated with increases in women’s shelters because women were becoming better able to leave either the relationship or at least the home temporarily, meaning there were fewer women who felt like the only way out was homicide. That does make sense to me. I do wonder why there was simply less reduction in male perpetrated IPH though.

The denotation is “a spiteful, unpleasant, or disliked woman.” If a woman calls her man a bitch because he won’t do X, Y, or Z, he may feel rather emasculated, because the insinuation is that he’s less of a man. The robbery would have been completed by 3 or so men, sure, but my guard was lowered because this woman said the area makes her feel unsafe. This was north Philly at 2am, so motherfucker I feel unsafe too lmao. I now carry a firearm, and please believe me my guard is not down just because the rider is a …

That makes sense, but I don’t know if I agree. There are tons of womanizers who got attention in school and afterwards, but they still treat women like garbage. And I’m sure there are dudes that didn’t get much attention that are phenomenal friends and lovers and such. There’s a somewhat similar issue in the Black community, though not exactly the same. Nationally, the Census Bureau counts 88 black male adults for every 100 black women, while the ratio for whites is a more equal 97 men for every 100 women. This has resulted primarily in women becoming celibate or disinterested in relationships in relatively high numbers. Another instance, the gender imbalance in the UK during and after WWI and WWII caused a panic, although women weren’t quite allowed to be as …

But the thing is, even though black men were technically allowed to vote, they were forcefully stopped by the racist southern whites via lynching, violence, etc. Despite having the "priviledge" to vote, they risked their lives doing so. That’s exactly what I was alluding to with the “I could easily argue against this” part. The Supreme Court turned a blind eye to, or really tacitly encouraged, measures that enabled states to implement ways to drive down the Black vote. The amount of lynchings th…

I disagree with the assertion regarding how this choice came to be. Most research or commonly stated talking points about sexual assault and violence are focused on male perpetrators and female victims of these things. Another aspect is how most frequently the perpetrator is known to the victim. The s…

Where did I even insinuate that Mexican men, as a whole, are rapists? There are rapists in every group of people, and for probably a plethora of reasons, the subways system in Mexico City seems to have more sexual crime than most people find acceptable. This also is the case in Japan, but I’m not saying Japanese men are harrasers or anything like that. Certain crimes, at times, may be more prevalent in certain places, for a lot of reasons. None of those reasons have to be a condemnation of a gro…

Mexican men are demonized in Mexico? Brother, I live in Texas, which is majority Hispanic, and of that, the vast majority is Mexican. On the ground, I do not hear anyone demonizing Mexican men more (or really at all) than republicans, and it’s largely due to immigration stuff. The majority of those seeking asylum aren’t even Mexican. I grew up going to 90% Hispanic schools, I have been called every slur in the book by my friends, and I would never demonize them.

You’re denying that women have been oppressed at this point? Even if you don’t think it happens currently, you’re denying that it happpened in the past? Here’s a Wikipedia article on gender inequality. Lots of stuff there. You don’t have to take every bit as irrefutable fact, but most of it is accepted by the majority of people. And here’s a Lincoln quote: “There is a natural disgust in the minds of nearly all white people to the idea of indiscriminate amalgamation of the white and black races ……

I don’t think it’s “growing” in that way. From what I’m aware, the issues mainly arose in the 70s as porn became more of a thing, and thus emerged both the sex positive feminists and the anti-sex feminists, and all the varying opinions on sex, porn, prostitution, etc. The unfortunately named WAP (Women Against Pornography) was founded in the 70s

Mexico City also has a massive problem with harassment of women. I couldn’t possibly understand why you have a problem with this when there’s information like this available: According to NPR, a 2016 survey showed that 9 out of 10 women in Mexico felt unsafe taking public transportation. Another study showed that seven out of 10 female passengers in Mexico City said they were harassed when taking the bus or subway.

Your reasoning, specifically the bit stating that emotional bond changes what’s attractive to men, is something I hadn’t thought about. Where I disagree is that I find women older than me attractive all the time, more so than any younger than me. I’m 27 for reference. I’m not sure how recent of a phenomenon pair bonding is within humans, but I desire that too, to a significant degree, which increases the amount of other traits that I find attractive (e.g. agency, ability to handle stress, etc.) …

I have a great disdain for the way it is asserted that men aren’t emotionally intelligent. The Harvard Business Review model has 12 facets of emotional intelligence. You still just said "a lot" is relative. "A lot" can't be quantified because it has no concrete definition, and no deviation from average can be properly defined as "a lot" because it has no definition. Some people think "A lot" over the speed limit is 5mph. To others, that's absolutely nothing. By law, over 25mph (here) over the speed limit is probably considered "a lot," as that's an enhanced infraction. Even still, 10 people harassing women is not "a lot" to me. Exactly. Commonly associated with people that have tried to make it out of poverty and every single time they get close something knocks them down several pegs. People that you know truly are capable and worthy of reaching a certain point and always being cut short. The people that you think about when you realized our society was not meritocratic. Hey now, I wasnt the one that started making claims that lack context. It helps that women can get jobs and mortgages now. Before that, the marriage rate was pretty high. It helps that people aren’t getting married at 15-19 years old, as was common in the 70s. I’m sure that resulted in quite a bit of marriage. More people deciding to wait to get married, more people marrying who they want to instead of who they are forced to, means lower divorce rates. Anyone who does get married can rest assure…

Re-run those numbers. Almost nobody calculates divorce rate using percentage with no additional context (like 50% of all first marriages end in divorce), it’s generally expressed as a number/per Capita. The divorce rate is at a 50 year low

Do you live in a low cost of living area? I don’t know many women that do that of stuff. No one I’ve ever dated does, though I know the archetype you’re describing. I believe you may have misread. I did too, initially. The study said men are most stressed when completely economically dependent on their wives. You know, anytime I think of trad women, I think to myself “as long as they’re not saying this is what people SHOULD do, they’re just living that life for themselves” because feminism and equality I believe is about choice. The choice to live that lifestyle if you want to. I never really considered the mindset of the men who entered these trad relationships. In Detective Conan (Case Closed), a 17 year old boy who is a detective is shrunk down into a child, and he follows around his 17 year old gf and her dad and solves crimes. I’ve been thinking about how easily the writers could’ve made suggestive jokes or more, but I don’t think they ever did. Even the young girl that likes Conan doesn’t get her desire reciprocated, I imagine because Conan still has the mind of a 17 year old and that would be unbecoming. Very non-toxic show. Men suffer through a lot without saying anything, it’s kinda the trope at this point, no? From things like the rates of suicide, all the way down to the stereotypical “happy wife happy life” thing. Further, it’s very common for men to feel like they can’t be 100% open with their spouse, in terms of vulnerability. I’ve specifically sought out the opinions of others on this, and you can find this on the internet often, but “fellas, never cry in front of your girl” is prevalent but in my personal e…

Dude we are so similar (to a point). I played football from 7-16 years old and my grades suffered as well. The difference is, I moved from a highly academic school to a suburban DFW school and DFW is Football Mecca I swear to you. Everybody was corn fed and on gear it seemed, doing 2-a-days, and my rather reasonable size (6’0 200lbs) meant nothing at that point. I was able to coast at my previous school but the real deal was too much. Knowing several collegiate players though, the whole system i…

Ok so here’s the thing: I have depression. It is widely accepted in academic discussions that depression and anxiety are factors associated with increased risk of being the victim of emotional abuse. I Wouldn’t say I’m dysfunctional, but I would say my low self esteem has created a situation wherein I feel I deserve more, but not so strongly I will be an advocate for myself. I don’t agree with most of those men; I will say that I think a lot of currently 25-55yo men were brought up in a way such that we were raised to cater to women chivalrously, and do so despite how we feel much of the time. The typical trope is not the husband that wants to do a whole bunch of cute stuff on weekends, get sad about not going on romantic dates, etc. that’s not to say that men don’t ever want to, or that’s some men are the ones that want to do that primarily, this is just the media …

“Overweight” is not really cut and dry. Lots of thicc women are considered overweight but can outrun you. I’m overweight, technically, though I’ll wash you in a foot race. I played football for 10 years and my ass big. Plus, as mortality changes, and the leading causes are less tuberculosis and shit, something has to become the leading cause. Exposure therapy is a thing. Do something where you have to be told “no” often, like in outbound sales. It’s never personal (usually).

When you say increase the risk, what do you mean? What do you mean remove the incentive?

Conversely, I know several women who have a dream of meeting their man at the grocery store or something like that. Social media poisons the brain. Plus, are most of the people you’re referring to talking about EVERY dude, or are they referring to “men” in the “I hate men” sense? (Most often doesn’t hate men, is reasonable, but understands how people generalize when they vent)

The emotional intelligence thing kinda irks me. What is meant by that? I asked my gf, and a few other people. The most common answer was “not treating your gf as though they have to handle all of your emotions.” Which makes me think “have y’all HAD a GF??” I have been expected to listen, acknowledge, align, empathize, and assure at near-therapist levels with just about every gf. I can do it, most of the time. I had a hard time before, because I have a “fix it” attitude like a lot of dudes do, wh…

I don’t have a dog in the game but I’ll say this: if there’s an exam, and most students score below average, the professor effectively lowers the standards and curves the grade. They also may look at how the the students have been taught, or evaluate their pedagogical style, or the content of the lecture. They usually don’t say “these students are garbage.” I don’t believe a sociologically informed person would say that.

In what scenarios are people finding it necessary to save cats?
/r/PurplePillDebate18/09/23 09:12 AM

In your experience, is it the same men saying the first set of things as it is saying the second set? I ask because I personally have not said either of those things, nor has anyone in my friend group that I know of, with the exception of one dude who does be like “I’m lonely etc etc.” The cognitive dissonance necessary to say both of those things insane, though I know there’s an abundance of dissonance to go around. I talk with my gf about some of these incidents, and where we agree and disagre…

In this specific circumstance, I very much assume the guy hitting someone with a brick in East Houston has a gun on him. Out of curiosity, has that ever been a fear of yours? Secondly, I feel like I see stories of people getting shot during DV interventions a lot, especially here in Texas. But that could be availability bias. Do you happen to know if this is rare?
/r/PurplePillDebate18/09/23 07:42 AM

Did you find anything more?
/r/PurplePillDebate18/09/23 07:36 AM

I’d like to know what your exceptions are. I too have a LTC, though here in Texas you don’t need one to carry concealed anymore. Houston is where the incident took place. I think about this shit all the time. When am I obligated to intervene? Any time I intervene, and I’m carrying, there is a high potential jt is necessary for me to withdraw and discharge my firearm - will that have been warranted? Will the force used be proportionate, and would I have reasonably believed that it was necessary t…
/r/PurplePillDebate18/09/23 07:34 AM

In Texas you don’t even need a license anymore
/r/PurplePillDebate18/09/23 07:26 AM

The two factors that make me hesitant: This is Houston. Everyone and their dog has a gun. I can’t find statistics on it but the amount of people getting shot intervening in domestic violence incidents is pretty high. It’s the #1 most dangerous call for cops to show up to
/r/PurplePillDebate18/09/23 07:26 AM

So I think what he’s referring to was swaths of people on Twitter saying things like “Black men are the police because the protection you get is conditional” and things like that.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/09/23 07:24 AM

This was Houston. Their response time is 6 minutes for priority 1 calls and 10 minutes for priority 2. I can’t tell which this incident would fall under though Because it’s Houston, it can’t be forgotten that the likelihood of someone that is willing to hit another person with a brick has a gun on them is very high. That’s a tough one. If I had my firearm, I’m stepping in. Without it, I really don’t know what I’d do and I don’t want to Monday night quarterback

As it goes, the negative comments are the one that stick with you, especially when they call into question your manhood and such
/r/PurplePillDebate18/09/23 07:11 AM

I mean to be fair some dudes have murdered women for rejecting them. Sure it’s rare, but a lot of women think about it. Plus, stalking, harassment, etc.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/09/23 07:08 AM

Your stats are off. I would implore you to re-research that data.

Why is everyone agreeing with you, this is overly broad and weird. A significant number of women are attractive to many men, but most of those men aren’t attracted to most of those women. I’m completely able to recognize that Taylor Swift is an attractive women, but I wouldn’t be interested in attempting to court her even if we were in the same league. As an example

That doesn't bother me at all. I mean, if she's wearing a midriff at a funeral, that's one thing I suppose. But I'm not wearing cargo shorts to the cocktail bar. I have a couple things my girl knows that I'm just not a fan of (blue eyeshadow). That's not to say she can't do it - she can. But if my girl ever said she'd prefer I'd stop wearing cargo shorts I'd think about it, just as she doesn't wear blue eyeshadow

I’m in a LTR, I have no issues there and I’m wearing my cargoes right now. I’m saying if cargoes are worn by dads, clearly those are the attire of those who be fuckin’. Don’t call me sir, I drool in my sleep sometimes.

You just ruled someone out based on their clothing. You’re assuming that someone is a dad, or is not on the market. Someone that is a dad or isn’t on the market clearly fucks and is taken, by your logic. When people like that are no longer in relationships, do you think they start wearing pants again? Or perhaps you know if they wear cargos, they’re faithful. Or if I wear chinos, my thighs gone look thick as hell, my meat might print, and imma look like a hoe. Also, consider the obvious utility …

Y’all out here choosing partners based on who is getting your panties wet, and that’s y’all’s problem. Online dating has made a lot of things physically transactional, and the .25 seconds people use to decide which direction to swipe is not the ideal way to choose partners at all, especially when the corporation providing you the candidates for swiping only has incentive to keep you swiping. Me personally, I choose my partners based on several factors, which includes physical attraction, but I a…

Comments that so quickly tell me I couldn’t date someone don’t pop as quickly as this one did. You’re ruling out potentially fantastic people because you don’t like a garment of clothing

Wow that’s makes perfect sense. Not that jt had to make sense, of course, but clearly very physiological. It’s also not often that I read something from someone online that I feel would be a total dealbreaker, but this would be it. Shit, I won’t lie, I’d be rather disappointed if I got over to someone’s place for the first time and was told Conversely, I don’t like receiving oral and would be 100% okay with a person who detested giving it. I don’t like it because I honestly don’t like the though…

I know you’ve been likely asked this 1,000 times and it’s such a cliche question, but is it possible you haven’t had good oral at all? My gf said she hated oral before she met me… but she didn’t tell me before I went down on her. She just let me do it and was astounded and the results

I’m appalled to hear this is still a thing. It’s really interesting how different we are. I don’t like receiving (often. It can jump start my car though if you know what I mean) but I perform 30-45m monologues on my gf. Like how does making a woman cum not feel like the most masculine shit on the planet? I feel like I am Poseidon down there
