The story is called On Seeing the 100% Perfect Girl One Beautiful April Morning. It's by Haruki Murakami. Very beautiful.

Another fascinating one from the OKCupid blog. Interesting how it flies in the face of the "universal beauty" theory a lot of folks in the community propose, but I think it actually fits very well with the different definition of the 1-10 scale we use (basically focusing on approachability). Thoughts?

Well I'm tired of banging your little sister. We all have our burdens to bear.

Would you cuddle with me afterwards?

You can run "game" on all women all the time, including friends, family members (no stupid conclusions here, people), old ladies at the supermarket, or whoever, just by internalizing the attitudes that women find attractive and being a fun person to be around. That said, actually hitting on taken girls isn't any good for practice, since it takes away all your AA. Plus it's a dick move.

"Aw, you're just a baby," is Mystery's recommended line. I've never had a good result with it.
/r/seduction04/01/11 08:34 PM
3

Aha, that makes some sense. By the bye, I've been using this for a while with very good results. An especially good exchange I've had a number of times: HB: How old are you? Me: Too old for you. HB: <tingle>
/r/seduction04/01/11 08:30 PM
3

I see what you mean here, but it's a bit counter-intuitive, since being "too old" can be seen as a DLV. What if, for example, I said "I'm too short for you?" Seems like "You're too tall for me" would be better. I like the point about telling her what's good for her, though - that has the right feel to it.

Yeah, I meant a little more into him that "just met and am attracted." More like "We've been dating for months."
/r/seduction04/01/11 07:27 PM
1

Key part of this message: "I don't mind when a guy texts me a lot if I'm into him." In short, she must already be into you for you to get away with this (if ever.) Hold your cards when you're first getting to know her. You can loosen up a bit when you've been dating for a year. Even then, this is too much.

At the risk of stating the obvious, the best thing you can do to seduce men is essentially to get hotter. Lose weight (if you need to), get in shape, and most importantly, read up on body language. As for women, do you like femmy girls or more butch types?

Re: the intruding bit, I agree. Think that was a mistake. I wanted to start with a tine constraint, but that wasn't the best way. Re the 3 questions, read it again. SHE asked ME those. I turned them around on her to keep from playing into her frame too much.

It actually wasn't a false time constraint, I really was meeting a friend at the gym. But I get your meaning ;)

I did at the end - whole conversation was about 15 mins, like I said. I cut it off to hit the gym and arranged a date for next week. Still too long, I take it?

This is an IM conversation, not txt, from a girl I met online, not in person. A bit of a different situation. Edit: Or is it? I have read some advice that says it's good to build some comfort/rapport in IM when you meet girls online. I've had good results in general from this policy, but I'm all ears: Are you suggesting I should have kept this to 2 minutes ending with a date invitation? (Keep in mind my grand total interaction with this girl before this consisted of one 3-line email each - hers …

Just look at the difference frame makes, here. "Just the alcoholic reading by himself at the bar." Wtf? How about "the educated gentleman enjoying a nice pint and a lovely book in a warm, cheerful pub?" State it that way, and who cares if he doesn't happen to strike up a conversation that night? And if he holds that attitude, it's much more likely that he will.
/r/seduction22/12/10 08:25 PM

I've been doing this for 15 years. I don't have a precise number off the top of my head, but I assure you it is substantial. Multiple long term girlfriends, multiple one night stands.

By the way, another poster gave me an awesome idea I'm going to use next time: "Why on earth would you come to a bar to read?" "Well I tried to bring a six pack into the library but they kicked me out."
/r/seduction22/12/10 03:54 PM
5

"Why on earth would you come to a bar to read?" "Hang on, let me finish this sentence." "Why on earth would you come to a bar to read?" "I brought a book in case the people were too boring." "Why on earth would you come to a bar to read?" "I'm secretly hoping that hot chicks will interrupt me. Seen any?"
/r/seduction22/12/10 03:52 PM

I've had the best results from this in Irish pubs, but it has worked in other places as well.
/r/seduction22/12/10 03:47 PM
3

Yes, at the actual bar.
/r/seduction22/12/10 03:46 PM
3

Doesn't matter much. As long as the place isn't too dark or noisy to read.
/r/seduction22/12/10 03:44 PM
2

Can't say I've noticed a pattern there. I've gotten approached reading everything from thin novellas to gigantic law textbooks.
/r/seduction22/12/10 04:13 AM
5

That's awesome! Way to stand out. To all the other geeks out there, let this be a lesson: you do NOT have to sacrifice your personality or the things you love to succeed with women. You can turn your "weaknesses" into strengths with a simple change in frame.
/r/seduction22/12/10 03:58 AM
3

The answer is, one you're comfortable in. The whole reason this works is it allows you to create the aloof vibe without faking it, but in order for that to happen, you must actually be able to read and enjoy your book. If I don't get opened, I couldn't care less, because I had a nice drink and enjoyed a nice read. You have to have the same attitude, and mean it. So pick a place where that's true for you. My noise tolerance is pretty high, so I can pull this off in a wide variety of places. But D…
/r/seduction22/12/10 03:51 AM
3

Don't know how it works from the other direction. A nook might actually be better than a real book for a girl.
/r/seduction22/12/10 03:49 AM
5

It's all about your frame. I heard about an old routine where you take a pickup book to a bar and pretend to read lines from it verbatim to girls. That would be a laugh riot.
/r/seduction22/12/10 03:45 AM
3

Since the key is to actually BE reading and enjoying it, it's up to you. How much noise can you tolerate?
/r/seduction22/12/10 03:43 AM
2

Yep, I had good results with that as well when I was back in school.
/r/seduction22/12/10 03:33 AM
2

Perhaps, but at some point I would think it would become an obvious ploy or just too weird if it's totally insane to be reading in that environment. The entire key to it is to really be into the reading. That's what sets your entire frame. If you come into it with too much of a "this is how I'll meet chicks" mindset, it won't work. But what the hell, try it out in a completely ridiculous environment and see what happens. For science, right?
/r/seduction22/12/10 03:32 AM
2

It works fine in crowds, but not if it's too loud or dark. Just focus on an environment where you can actually enjoy reading.
/r/seduction22/12/10 03:29 AM
2

It can work just because it gives girls an easy opener, but not as well because people read in those places all the time. No one reads at a bar. It stands out.
/r/seduction22/12/10 01:53 AM
9

It can work great with comics. I number closed a girl last night while reading the Walking Dead. That's what prompted me to write this, actually. The key is attitude. If you go in thinking comics are too nerdy for chicks, and blush when you get "caught" with one, it won't work. If you say "I don't think I could date a girl who doesn't think zombies are awesome," different story entirely.
/r/seduction22/12/10 01:49 AM
6

I certainly haven't been hurt by reading the geekiest of geeky stuff (books on Bridge, for example). The key is not to give a flying fuck if people know you love nerdy things. If you get asked and are embarrassed AT ALL about what you're reading, you're done. If you smirk and subtly imply that it's over her head, however, game on.
/r/seduction22/12/10 01:44 AM
12

It absolutely only works if I actually want to read. Luckily, I always do.
/r/seduction22/12/10 01:40 AM
2

Could be all sorts of reasons for that, from venue to your body language. There are no guarantees - this is just something that has worked well for me. YMMV.

I mentioned this in the original post. I like to read. I like beer. The first time I did it, I happened to have a book I was reading in my pocket (as I usually do) and felt like a drink. There were no tables so I sat at the bar. The place was pretty dead when I showed up, since it was early, so I pulled out the book and started reading. I got pretty engrossed, and hardly noticed as people started coming in. I got opened by 3 girls over the course of a few hours that night.
/r/seduction22/12/10 12:25 AM

Don't knock in 'til you've tried it. This works routinely on 7s and 8s for me, and the occasional 9. No 10s yet (I met the one 10 I have dated at a grocery store), but then I rarely see 10s in the sort of place where this is feasible. I tend to date 8s or so most of the time. No grandiose claims here about bagging Natalie Portman, and it's not the only trick in my bag, but it has been a great success for me.

Will hold you to that, sir.
/r/seduction22/12/10 12:04 AM

in my head this feels like it would get a 'what the hell are you doing' response. not a 'cool, what are you reading' response. It often does, which opens up about 1000 different neg possibilities. Think about it.
/r/seduction22/12/10 12:00 AM
5

Might try this at some point. I would worry that they wouldn't stand out as much from ipads and such, but it's worth a shot. Also a real book forces you to spread out and take up more space at the bar - a subtle dominance cue, especially if you hold your space and don't let other dudes crowd you.
/r/seduction21/12/10 11:31 PM
7

I pick bars that are conducive to it, so not too noisy or dark. Irish pubs are often good. I suspect this self-selects for women who would be receptive to it. So much the better.
/r/seduction21/12/10 11:27 PM
14

We can't help but love the dish when it is presented well, and we will criticize and scrutinize the same dish if it is not presented properly. Fascinating. This goes to the heart of pickup itself, when you think about it. The only difference is the product is yourself. Where did you learn to build shit up like this, and what can I do to improve my own skills at it? The answer should be obvious from my post itself. I read. A lot. Pulling the reader in to what you are writing is what good writing …
/r/seduction21/12/10 11:24 PM

Just be sure to actually be absorbed in your book and not creepily sneaking glances around the bar. Congruence!
/r/seduction21/12/10 11:16 PM

Which makes you more appealing to me from the start - it's a very good screen.
/r/seduction21/12/10 11:11 PM

Mostly Irish pubs and hipsterish places - obviously this wouldn't work so well in an "oonst" club. I just had a thought, though - I'll bet this would be absolutely magical at a gentleman's club. Hmmmmmm.
/r/seduction21/12/10 11:00 PM

Put another way, they must prove they are more interesting than my book to get me to close it for a few minutes to talk to them. And most of them aren't. ;)
/r/seduction21/12/10 10:19 PM
13

At the bar. This is KEY. No one will approach you at a booth.
/r/seduction21/12/10 10:05 PM
7

That too. If her reaction is negative to my reading, I don't want to waste my time with her anyway.
/r/seduction21/12/10 09:56 PM
59

Bingo. I love reading, so I truly don't give a fuck if I meet anyone or not. I literally don't even notice the chicks are there unless they open me. This is like crack to chicks, but hard to fake. When I read at the bar, it's not fake - it's 100% genuine, so there is no trouble with congruence. There's more: it's super easy to play aloof game and push/pull by going back to your book a few minutes here and there, again with 100% congruence. Plus you just stand out as different from all the other …
/r/seduction21/12/10 09:54 PM

That is part of it. There's more, though. See if you can figure it out.
/r/seduction21/12/10 09:31 PM

I have found ipads and iphones not to be anywhere near as good. Ditto with newspapers. Books only.
