Honestly, polyamory aside, blah de blah…why tf is this lady paying for her adult daughter’s boyfriend anyway???

My ex-husband did the same sort of thing. We went on a vacation to Disney, and I had a particular place I really wanted to eat at. So I made the arrangements…and paid for the dinner…and he proposed to me at it. That pissed me off even at the time, though, sadly, not enough to actually say no. But seriously, wtf???

That’s got to be one of my favorite parts of the whole Henry VIII mess. And he was genuinely surprised no Princesses particularly wanted to marry him again, after he went through three wives in quick succession! Incredible arrogance and failure to understand the consequences of his own actions. Wish I could say I didn’t know any modern men like that, but...🙄

As a woman in another male-dominated field (one of the more good-ol-boys varieties of engineering), I love seeing other ladies make in-roads like this on traditionally male spaces. First, it’s the trailblazers. And then? It’s the little girls who look up and see someone just like them doing something and realize “hey. I could do that too” <3

My primary emotion after losing my virginity was bemusement, tbh. That was...it? This was the scary, changing, pivotal moment that was supposed to mean all these things? It was almost the feeling you get after sitting through a whole mediocre movie. Do I bother to get my money back, or...? I mean, it was fine, I guess, but after all that buildup I had expectations

I feel smothered just from reading this. Ugh. Not cute, not healthy, and damned sure not “romantic”.

Nah. That’s consequence. No one ever said choices came without consequence. (But he’d have to be dumb enough to admit he voted that way for you to know, which is the point. You’re not actually controlling his vote, because you can’t see him doing the voting, and aren’t able to check up on his vote afterward- just like the “gentleman” above can never really know what his wife (poor soul) marks on her ballot)

And this, dear ones, is precisely the reason we forbid: 1) ballot selfies 2) Married couples voting “together” (both must have their own booth) Because people like this man, who think they have any right to decide anyone else’s vote, still exist.

What fresh fucking nonsense is this. This is where we are, huh? ...Nah, sis. Nah. That man’d be out on his ass before he finished that sentence (assuming I’d been stupid enough to keep him the first damn time)

...wow. He can’t even be bothered to tuck in his $5 Hanes undershirt he’s wearing to his own goddamn wedding. Or even get it pressed so it’s not wrinkled! What a prize! (there’s nothing wrong with a casual wedding. But that dress does not suggest she thought this was that sort of occasion...)

Nope! You know what you get, if /you/ have emotional shit to work through? Bitched at about how your crying near him is “manipulative”, that’s what.

The only solid advice my mother ever gave me: never let a man control your money. Always have a secret stash for pure gotta-get-out money; there’s not much worse than being trapped in a relationship because you can’t afford to leave.

Bullet. Dodged. Possibly literally. It is astounding how quickly these men go from normal conversation to these completely psychotic rants...and at no point do they look at back at things like this and think “...hmm...do I have an anger problem?” Crazy. Dangerous crazy.

Went from a relationship with a 6/7 (violent, angry, controlling, often drunk) to a major type 1 clinger (avoidant, passive aggressive, still controlling, the whole shebang). With bonus hidden anger issues, ‘cause I really know how to pick ‘em. Still in the process of extracting myself from that one. Ugh. And I thought I was “learning”, lol. Just more bullshit in a different form.

As the older kid in a similar situation... Yeah, it’s weird af. My little sister is 24 years younger than me. I could easily have had a child her age by now. Her mother is older than me, thank God...but not by enough that I’m super comfortable seeing her as an “elder” of my family. Like...there’s definitely less than a decade between us.

My mother and I have a lot of problems... But the one piece of advice she gave me that was solid as stone was: “always have your own bank account, your own money. Even after you’ve married. You never know.” I’ve been in a lot of shitty life situations. Every single time, having the money (under my control) to get out without depending on anyone else has been massively, massively helpful. Don’t let anyone take away your financial independence. Working together is one thing. Combining everything i…
