I’m aware that online dating is mostly a miss, but I’ve just started dating again after a really brutal breakup and a long period of being single, and it’s a bit hard to meet people outside of my university campus otherwise. This guy was very attractive, fit, and accomplished (had a PhD, was a research scientist and a published author). He asked me to meet in person after a day or so of talking and then revealed that he had no plan for an actual date, which really put me off. It’s not only zero …

Huge huge huge red flag that he got so defensive in response to her friends’ concern. He knows that what he’s doing is degrading and abusive.

There are almost always signs, sadly. This situation hurts my soul, and I hope he isn’t able to convince her to stay🤞🏼

Not only that, but he also clearly doesn’t understand female anatomy or biology 👍🏻

I was thinking about the whole “men don’t have a right to be emotional” thing too. If you think about it, that kind of problem comes from a position of power. Only someone who is expected to have wealth and power and influence in society would bring that up as their biggest issue. Meanwhile, we deal with legitimate lack of opportunities and fear of violence 🙄

Right? It honestly proves that we live in an ultra male-privileged society whenever they immediately respond to our grievances with “what about me though?”

Yep. This is why I HATE the pickme/anti-feminist argument that anyone who cares about women’s rights doesn’t care about “real equality,” which apparently means giving men a ton of privileges (that they don’t give us) for the sake of being “equal”

(Edit: typo) That does make sense, and it can be a harsh realization. In my opinion, I think the point of the abundance mentality is to prepare you to play a numbers game - you’re going to have to wade through a lot of garbage to find a quality person. The abundance mentality keeps you from settling down with trash just because you think it might be the best you can get. You’re way more likely to find an HVM if you persevere, and even in the worst case scenario where you don’t find him (which I …

How do you feel when guys ignore you? Just attracted to them, or do you feel anxious as well? If so, you could possibly have an anxious attachment style - secure people who don’t ignore you tend to come across as boring because the thrill of anxiety that an avoidant makes you feel can be confused with attraction. If you don’t feel anxious, then I agree with everyone else. You should read Attached by Amir Levine and Rachel Heller

So true. My psychologist dad once told me that the way someone makes you feel is always a reflection of who that person is, and that hits hard. Feeling anxious and insecure = he’s LV, not many exceptions to this

You’re 16, so I wouldn’t even be worried about this yet. No one your age is gonna be ready for a high quality relationship. Focus on school and self improvement. Also, seconding applestorm, you shouldn’t put your friends down for how they dress. That’s a very “not like other girls” thing.

Who said we’re entitled to anything if we have sex with a man? We choose to have sex with men who will give us commitment and effort, we don’t have sex so that they give us commitment and effort.🤦🏻‍♀️

I don’t think it’s about turning it into a competition. I can see how it could be interpreted as game playing if you think of it as a woman being into a guy and deciding not to pursue so that he wants her more, but that’s the wrong interpretation. Don’t pursue a guy because you don’t know him or his intentions, you need a chance to vet whether he’s genuinely into you or not, and you shouldn’t want him before you have this information.

Incel meaning involuntary celibate... pretty sure it’s not involuntary when I pass on these dudes’ crusty asses 🤔 Really though, missing the point entirely

The fear of being alone is a strong motivator until you realize that he is making you feel more lonely than you’d ever be without him. You’ll probably feel worse for a little bit after you end it, but if you make a clean cut and absolutely do not allow any contact with him, the pain won’t last. I like comparing breakups like this to surgery; cold and painful, but you’ll be so much healthier when you heal. Don’t draw this out

Wow, this is the advice I wish I had received at any point in the past three years. The point about looking for a rebound is sooo valid, it made me feel called out. A lot of us are so used to getting over a traumatic relationship by finding a distraction in someone else without addressing the underlying issues, and it causes a long chain of messed up relationships with the wrong people that will cripple you if you aren’t strong enough to realize where you’re going wrong. I’m going to take a LOT …

Oh, lovely. Reminds me of my first college relationship. He told me “You aren’t the most attractive, but you are the most erotically satisfying” ?? Truly hope she doesn’t accept this

I’m sorry, “I’ve slept with hundreds of girls from online.” Hundreds?? He’s lying, but still 🤢 Can’t believe that’s actually an aspiration for men

Oh my gosh. If I can get through this and learn from it, you definitely can. I’m used to putting so much value into my relationships that I put up with treatment I couldn’t even tell my friends about. We can do this!

Thank you so much. I’m very thankful that I found this sub. They should honestly teach girls how to identify narcissists, borderlines, and other species of abusers in schools. Never too late to start loving yourself and to stick to your standards though

I keep hearing it in my head, which is super gross. I imagine that’ll stop soon though. It was shocking, but I have no tears left for him, and I know I’ll be much better off.

Yeah, I think he thought that was really clever, especially when he texted in the morning to say that he guesses he didn’t want to talk after all. Puke. Thank you for the support!

So true. There’s a version of me in a parallel universe who is stuck with him and will doom their future children to a shitty father. I feel so bad for her.

I agree. I’m doubly pissed because he felt the need to devalue a (probably) innocent woman in order to devalue me. What makes it worse is that his excuse for not contacting me lately was that he had coronavirus. If that’s true, then damn.

God, that is so disgusting, and I’m sorry that happened. Really unbelievable that there’s more than one man in the world who’d do something like this, but I’m becoming less naive. I’m happy to hear that this seems to be something you overcame though; it gives me hope that this won’t make me bitter. I won’t lie, I feel some grief because I wasted so much time and so many tears on this guy, but I’m happier to be out of it, and I’m excited to live a life where I don’t put up with this! You are abso…

Yeah, you’re right. I blocked him this morning. I really don’t want his notifications to waste my neurons anymore, and I don’t want him to somehow weasel his way back. I’ll just do my best to avoid him on campus

I might be crazy, but I don’t think you can actively hate someone and be over them at the same time.

Well when I answered, he said hey (name) and asked me what I was up to. I started telling him about my night a little bit when I heard him grunting (thought he was jerking off at first, got instantly disgusted and stopped talking). I was sort of in shock, then I heard him tell someone to keep going, and I started to hear a woman’s voice. He hung up before I could. I think she had to have known, which sort of makes me wonder whether or not he was faking it? That wouldn’t make it better though. He…

Yep, together and exclusive. I should actually probably add some more details because it’s sicker than I gave him credit for. We hadn’t been talking for a few days, and he texted me yesterday around noon telling me he wanted to talk about the fight. I asked him when he wanted to talk, then he disappears. Next time I hear from him, it’s the call last night. Now he’s been calling me nonstop today, but I’m not answering. It’s not like he did it accidentally or anything. He very OPENLY addressed me.…
