My kids mother gave me so much grief over the years that when I got sole custody, I put all the child support I received from her into 529s for the kids, since I really didnt need the money. Ended up with over 120k and was able to fully fund their college expenses. Its not about being an asshole, it's about focusing on the children and smile.

My journal included phone calls (dates, how long, if answered), notes about visitation, was she on time or late, what the kids said, etc. Being late for appointments and exchanges is a red flag. If you have a GAL, then it is probably not an amicable coparenting situation. I have been through two custody evaluations. I wish I could tell you that there is a consistency in what they look for. I found that some have their own biases and yes they talk to the children separately too. They ask you about how you were disciplined as a child, like huh?. I know everyone's case is different. It was a long and difficult road to get to a resolution. I had to fight for overnights in the beginning and jump through hoops because a custody evaluator with "tender years doctrine" beliefs was assigned to the case. Eventually I only got 20% custody, but mom thought that was too much and began a campaign to eliminate me from my kids' life. It is such a rarity to get sanctions. After near financial ruin, i was just glad for it to end. I never got the full amount but the most important thing was that if she tried any more bs filings, i could respond with a contempt of court response and squash anything she might try. Sad how the courts think that everyone will act rationally for the best interests of the children.

I dont understand why you are not asking for child support. I have sole custody of my two daughters and the child support i received was put into a 529 college account for their college expenses. By the time they needed it there was over 120k in there and it paid for their college. My youngest just got her nursing degree and started her career towards an incredible future without student loans. Child support is for the children.

I feel your pain. I was on standing on the cliff of just giving up. Emotionally i was spent and the continued accusations and lies were literally destroying me. Eventually, i was able to win 20k in court sanction against her and awarded custody of my daughters. If she had been able to continue for a couple of months more, i would have given up.

There is no magic cure for what you are experiencing. I wish there was. Even though i ended up with sole legal and physical custody in the end and mom got charged and convicted of emotinal and phychological abuse, it took somewhere around 8 allegations by her to get to the truth. Your ex is just plain selfish and on a child damaging ego trip. I didn't need their mother's child support money either, so I deposited it into a 529 account for them for their future. When it was time for college, they had about 140k in that account. The youngest just graduated with a BS in Nursing and older graduated in 2024 with a BS in Computer Science. Both were summa cum lade. Child support is for the children and your ex doesn't seem to understand that.

I went through this nonsense in CA too. Nothing ever happens immediately. The courts just assume that everyone coparent according to the best interests of the children. It doesn't always work that way. What it took was to document everything, use Family Wizard for communications, and do whatever it took to never lose your temper.
