This is why they started focusing on "unpaid labor" like domestic chores and emotional support. It allows them to pad the numbers and claim that women actually work more than men, and that society is letting them down by not paying them for all of that non-work work that they do. Watch: As women's pay continues to rise and eventually overtakes men's, as current projections suggest should happen in the next 15-25 years, feminists will pivot and explain that it's ok for women to earn more than men…

Oh, they apply it to economic class as well. It just tends to get lost in the hustle to apply it to every other possible combination of traits.

This is the same question that gets asked every time, which is why I went way out of my way to be perfectly clear that the poll was over "raw, apolitical information." http://publicmind.fdu.edu/2012/confirmed/ To the best of your knowledge, have the opposition groups protesting in Egypt been successful in removing Hosni Mubarak? How about the opposition groups in Syria? Have they been successful in removing Bashar al-Assad? Which party has the most seats in the House of Representatives right now…

Sadly, NPR is still the best news source. As in, when media consumers were polled based on their factual understanding of current events, NPR's audience was far and way the best informed in terms of raw, apolitical information.

It's also worth noting that Penny is the self-insert for most of the show's audience, so she's gotta be both a "normal" person AND a bit of a Mary Sue. You see this in a low of shows. For some reason. Normal person thrust into an abnormal situation with strange characters around them.

Read the line that immediately followed the one you quoted. Everyone thinks they're the hero of their own story. Everyone likes justice, fairness, etc. Most feminists are just about equality. They don't know anything about the literature or academia or even much of the activism. They know of a few high-profile campaigns with outwardly noble goals and that's it. RadFems feeding them lies doesn't make them bad people. Just misinformed. The problem is mostly with the radicals who deliberately struc…

In my experience, the large majority of feminists are good. Most people sign on just because they like equal rights and dislike sexism. Anyone who likes equal rights and dislikes sexism is usually pretty decent. The issue is the leadership is typically radical. The feminists who care enough to devote their careers to the field buy into all of the crazy theory the field has cooked up in the past 100 years and veers away from egalitarianism and into cultish thinking and baseless rhetoric. Rather t…

I was thinking the same thing. I don't know the construction timetable, but maybe the reopening of the roadway beneath the bridge limited access for observers? Hard to walk the length of the project and keep an eye on every little thing when everyone's hauling ass to minimize road closure time, and harder still to do it while there's traffic under the bridge.
/r/MensRights17/03/18 05:23 PM

Or it's statistics. There are a lot more men in the field making choices, and thus more opportunities for error, and simulations are also used quite a bit and can go wrong.

Contractor error is possible but any major changes on the contractor's part also have to be submitted to an engineer to review and sign off on. They teach you in your intro/ethics/etc classes in any engineering degree about all the guys who have lost their careers because they signed off on contractor changes without noticing a small detail like all of the weight of a suspended walkway being shifted to a pair of small pins instead of being spread down the length of a girder. The person who signe…

The thing is, she didn't say much to disagree with your analysis. In fact, benevolent sexism can indeed be interpreted as malicious sexism towards the sex that doesn't benefit from it. There doesn't seem to be much difference between the actual point the both of you would like to make. The differences seem to be mostly in the underlying theory. She says this bias robs women of their agency and undermines their roles in history. Do you not agree? She says that insisting that women are made of sun…

She did no such thing. It's the same argument MRAs make: Benevolent Sexism is still Sexism. Women are no worse than men, but that doesn't automatically make them BETTER than men. She explicitly says women are no better. Just because she mentions Patriarchy Theory you accuse her of "spinning evidence of equal destructiveness into evidence of female oppression." That's not only not what she did, but her cherry picked examples also don't argue strongly for equal destructiveness.

I never claimed these decisions were/are conscious in the sense of some eugenics experiment. I assumed this was the case. Hence: "imply" Language gets very tricky on the topic of natural selection because many people conflate natural selection with either deliberate design or random chance. Both interpretations are troublesome.
/r/MensRights17/02/18 03:37 PM

Men also select women. It's also not accurate to imply deliberate action here. To say "women molded men" or "men molded women" or even "men oppressed women" is to imply a conscious decision. As if women got together for millennia and bred "bad boys" on purpose. If you're arguing that women prefer these types of men in general, for biological reasons, so they shouldn't be so quick to condemn the bad apples, that's quite alright, though.

Arguably, if people got paid based on other facets of their lives, nobody would need a second job. Why do people need second jobs? Kids? Debt? School? We should probably be providing for kids in our society. Statistically, it's one of the best social investments a nation can make. Education is part of that. A nation of college-educated grads is more productive than a nation of high school grads. Debt, I can see being largely irrelevent, unless it's medical debt. You say it's a "choice" to have t…

One could probably argue that if you're supporting a child, they are not in fact doing the same work as one without a child. They're getting less rest outside of work, face more costs, and may miss out on hours due to childcare requirements like doctor visits. It gets out of hand very quickly and probably regresses/progresses to a discussion of the merits of universal basic income and social policy. I'm just playing devil's advocate. Most people agree that the graveyard shift is somehow differen…

Life is a zero-sum game in Marxist philosophy. Oppressor vs Oppressed. Feminist theory says every advantage or privilege someone has must come at the expense of another group. Luckily, most feminists don't care about feminist theory.

If you read up on the history, the MRM was founded by feminists who got harassed out of the movement and blacklisted for being sympathetic towards men. The feminist attack hasn't let up since. Since the 70s and 80s, feminists have attacked the various men's groups, which all stayed tiny until the internet provided a way for them to unite. So, of course, responding to 40 years of feminist abuse is a central concern in the MRM. They can't not do it. Because then the feminists just beat on them lik…

I'm circumcised, but think the anti-circumcision group is harming their cause with their militancy. They blame so many problems on the procedure that they start sounding like RadFems. All hyperbole and emotional arguments. Few or no facts, because the facts on the topic are mixed because no experiments have been done with adult males before and after circumcision, and we can never get meaningful data on how they may differ from juvenile or infant boys who are circumcised. This whole thread seems…

That's an invalid assumption. This is like saying that any MRA activity that doesn't acknowledge women as victims is implying that it's not a good enough reason to oppose things like domestic violence, until men are mentioned. Imagine a feminist saying, "Focusing on male victims of domestic abuse implies that it's not bad enough that women are victims of abuse. People only care when men are the victims."

Well that was one big giant non sequitur. I asked you why you'd be mad that someone would try to persuade women that MGM is bad for women too and you respond by listing off why you don't like feminism. Also, apply everything you just said to your own opinions on this topic and your position begins to seem hypocritical, or at least sound slightly feminism.

Well, they used to be the majority. But then it was argued that girls needed role models to look up to and a push was began for female teachers. Women got active pushed ahead of men and even after they surpassed men in elementary teacher positions, nobody thought, "maybe we need to hit the brakes." By the time they stopped actively favoring women for teaching children, women were 70% of teachers in the US and rising and the trend didn't stop right away. As I said at the very end there, in some cases, the stereotype prefers non-males or non-whites. Nursing, teaching, etc. Increasingly in academia, there's a pro-girl bias that leads to identical papers being graded more harshly if a boy's name is on it vs when a girl's name is on it. Girls in school also benefit from a stereotype about passivity and politeness. When boys and girls misbehave in the same way, boys get punished more harshly.

It likely is a tiny bit due to gender. Too many studies have been done in which identical resumes submitted to a hundred companies, half with male names, half with female names, show a mild preference for males, even from female hiring managers, and even from "progressive" companies. Same with race. Identical resumes, stereotypical white names vs stereotypical black names. The white name resumes get between 10% and 50%(!) more replies and quicker replies. This is one case where socialization is …

That's why the photos are poor choices. This is not a universal outcome. Many circumcised penises do NOT dry out, crack, harden, etc. Just as not all uncircumcised penises are supple and moist. There likely is a trend between the two, but to go out of one's way to misrepresent both groups to serve an ideological agenda is intellectually dishonest and undermines the credibility of anti-MGM advocates the same way feminists undermine their credibility with the wage gap myth.

You present a false dichotomy when you insist that anything but the most extreme cherry picking somehow doesn't still count as cherry picking. If I try to argue that people from France are better than people from Germany and to prove it find a bunch of pictures of 7/10 French people and line them up next to pictures of 4/10 German people, is that not still cherry picking just because I did not use 10/10 models from France and 1/10s from Germany? There is a right and wrong on this issue... its just a fact. Either every boy should be circumcised or none should. Just like vaccines, and everything like that. Should boys born with disfiguring hypospadias get circumcisions? What about phimosis? Yes? Then by your logic all boys should be circumcised, right? what is extremist about saying "I don't think we should cut off parts of a child's penis to appease a god?" Irrelevent. The topic of FGM is irrelevent to the discourse tactics the OP uses to engage on the topic of MGM. Asking if FGM is acceptable is about as useful here as asking what someone's favorite color is. We've been discussing tone, intellectual honesty, fairness, etc. NOT whether MGM is acceptable or not. Virtually everyone here is against MGM. So asking if FGM is ok draws the logical response of, "No, it sucks. But what does that have to do with whether or not it's a bad idea to pretend that…

What are you doing for the "cause"? Just trolling on Reddit it seems. Tu Quoque fallacy. LOL. Why don't you post some pictures of some "naturally" non cherry-picked circumcised penises. You know, some penises that have had their foreskin's amputated but are just magically as functional as intact penises. Tu Quoque fallacy again. This hurts the cause far more than it helps it. Cherry picking photos to present one side in a positive light and the other in a bad one demonstrates the extreme emotional bias anti-circumcision advocates tend to have. Whether or not you feel strongly about bodily autonomy is irrelevent at best in the conversation, and in dealing with people who feel positively about circumcision, it actually makes you look unhinged. Worth noting prevalence varies by area and culture. Some peoples remove the entire clitoris, which would be like removing the entire glans of the penis. Others remove the clitoris and most of the labia to reduce everything to a small hole, which is somewhat harder to compare to. Perhaps a partial penectomy.

Spewing petty insults doesn't strengthen your case any. It just makes you look incompetent and emotional. As explained elsewhere, Feminists also believe the entire system is structured against them and that the present state of society, the legal system, academia, etc, is hostile to women and enables abusive men. Role reverse THAT and you have the common feminist claim that Patriarchal systems always side with men over women, with the most prominent example being Rape Culture. Rape Walks started when a cop gave some college girls advice on how to minimize their risk of being raped. They got outraged and declared that this was a symptom of how society as a whole blames women for their own rapes. Clans in general are silly. Since you've had a paternity test done, get an ancestry test done next. 23andMe is good. This sub and many adjacent communities remark all the time that women just sleep around and act hypergamous until they hit 30 and then rush to settle down with a "safe" guy, but that example, as well as your own comment, applies equally well to men. They should be cautious, but treating all women like threats is the same logic feminists base their ideology on. It's wrong in both cases. Just as not all men are rapists who will beat a girl for dumping him, not all women are BPD cases willing to get you expelled over a bad breakup. Every year, millions of college students sustain positive relationships, including ones that break up, without any such drama or legal risk. They claim they want to revolutionize gender roles, but every time any progress is attempted, or any study comes out indicating progress, they protest. This. Many of us criticize SJWs and the radical minority leading feminism because they discard most leftist values in order to treat their ideology like a conservative religion. Men used to get custody more because they could better support the child. Then feminists first lobbied for women to get custody, then when the financial burden was too much, they lobbied for child support legislation that we have today, so women could have their kids and their ex-husbands' money and c…

Because it's also not technically legal. US law on child pornography makes no distinction between real humans and artistic depictions. So a case could easily be made that sets a precedent that pornographic art featuring minors is unprotected speech. Child abuse is explicitly not ordered under "art". There was a court case a while back that set the precedent that "lewd and lascivious" images of children are not allowed even if you take artistic merit into account. They violate obscenity laws, which suspend the first amendment protections.

Have a fresh dose of anger: http://www.weeklystandard.com/no-country-for-burly-men/article/17737 Remember the stimulus package Obama promised during his first campaign? It originally mostly targeted male jobs because men were a huge majority of those out of work due to the recession. Because majority-female jobs like teacher and nurse tend to be relatively recession-proof, but male-dominated jobs tend to involve risks that people don't take when they're guarding their money, like land developmen…

Are you insane? He's been a vocal critic of Obama on not only sending US soldiers overseas, but also sending drones. This reminds me of the Elizabeth Warren fiasco. People ignore her entire career and every single thing she says to focus on the native american thing.

The issue was, iirc, the proposed rule changes were extremely broad, to the point that they'd either be useless or terribly overbearing. Choosing to fix the system over taking punitive measures is an interesting dichotomy. Because research indicates that a key difference between a Conservative and a Liberal mind is a Liberal is more concerned with helping victims while a Conservative is typically more concerned that perpetrators get punished. People who emphasize the firings may be more likely t…

Yes, he's responsible for one scandal that happened at the local level of the system, despite his efforts afterwards to change things, in bipartisan effort with McCain. Makes total sense. If we stack up his pro-vet actions and his anti-vet actions, what else do you think you can dig up? Because his pro-vet activity stretches back across his entire career. It takes more than one issue to eliminate all of that from consideration. He's also the only one wanting to stop spending US troops in foreign…

So that outweighs all of the other work he's done for them? Whatever floats your boat. Like you said, you can find negatives and positives in any candidate. But I've yet to see a better supporter of veterans than him. Worth noting: Some of the issues you noted were local affairs. How is he supposed to get into each individual facility and find local problems personally? And from your first link: https://berniesanders.com/issues/caring-for-our-veterans/ Worth noting on the other two: Both rags ar…

Well Bernie happens to be extremely anti-war and probably the best Veteran's advocate in recent memory. And he wants affordable healthcare for all, which would help a lot with that life expectancy gap.

He hardly panders to them. SJWs just overlap a lot with his main demo. Plus he doesn't tweet. His interns do. Which happen to be the only paid interns this election. He walks the walk on that matter.

Correlation is not causation. The people taking the piss out of Trump did not bolster his support. The media asking "Is Trump actually going to go the distance?!" did that. People going, "Now he might actually be the nominee!" did that. Idealogues as crazy as the two in question have a common pattern: They play defense until someone yields or takes them seriously, then they smell the blood and go for the throat. They're like furious chihuahuas waiting for you to sit down with them and lower your…

Agree to disagree. I see Laci as being like Trump. Her supporters would leave her if people stopped taking her seriously and just mocked her for what she is. These people know their ideology is a joke so they search for approval constantly. Engaging them fairly gives them that even as they fail to respond in kind. When you try to treat them like adults it's just wind in their sails. It's what they've wanted most all along. It empowers them. So I just want to try not doing that. To see if they de…

Treating them seriously has done little to help the situation either, though. The way I see it, provoking Green is probably the only shot at opening a dialog. These people are bullies first and foremost. You don't get in front of an audience and push your personal opinions and agenda on other people as objective fact the way Laci and the rest of her ilk do without having an authoritarian slant. Just look at how often she referred to her position as "just" and "righteous" in the video that sparke…

http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/databriefs/db37.htm We do know that boys, particularly black boys, are killed at much, much higher rates than anyone else. Surely not all of those occur off of school grounds. I know when I was growing up, a guy getting beaten up by 4-6 other guys in the bathroom or behind the school was a frequent occurrence, while it was nearly unheard of among girls. Maybe that contributes to the newsworthiness. It's more unusual for a girl to die this way. But I still think p…

Worth noting, boys die at a much higher rate than girls. This wouldn't have been national news had it been a boy beaten to death in a bathroom. And they likely wouldn't have even mentioned, "the boys were fighting over a girl."

A) Because they made it a contest, because B) Funding is finite and C) last I checked, much more state money in nearly every country was spent on breast cancer than prostate cancer. Ideally it wouldn't be a contest, but it's been made a contest whether you like it or not. Compete or lose.

Isn't this more an /r/MGTOW topic? There are tons and tons of good women out there. Some of the best MRAs are women. The RadFems are a minority even within Feminism. Why fear monger on this topic when you could focus on the plethora of fact-based MRA discussions already available?

The important thing is you managed to take a positive message about restoration and turn it into anger and resentment. That's super healthy. /s Tip: Save the righteous anger and outrage for actual debates on circumcision. You're preaching to the choir here already.

An off topic note: That bit towards the end about wanting to be left alone is a warning sign. Some consider MGTOW to be the RadFems or Lesbian Separatists of the MRM. And if you read anything on how Fundamentalists Christians, Radical Muslims, Orthodox Jews, White Supremacists, Revolutionary Marxists, etc actually become extremist: The first step is always severing ties and retreating into their own circles to stew and work each other up. Then they formulate a battle plan and come out swinging e…

I'm fine with it reading like a biased pro-MGTOW article if only because every other gender relations page on wikipedia is a pro-Feminist article. Most of the time it's good. But Iran had to ban women from med school, iirc, because Iran guarantees support for all women. Either a male relative will be made to support you, or the state will if no relative will. So many female college graduates in Iran get a degree and then retire on the mandated support they're owed with little or no actual work under their belt with their degrees. So in highly competitive fields that receive tons of state support and funding, it was judged to harm society w…

This the MRA mission, as far as I'm concerned. Feminism was about letting women choose which of those worlds they wanted to inhabit. And they claim they want to do the same for men, even though we know they never actually deliver. The MRM, being an offshoot of equity feminists of the previous generation (its founders, like Farrell, Pizzey, Elam, etc all being former feminists who left because feminism wasn't addressing mens issues) seems like its main goal is to provide the same thing for males.…

Alison Tieman talks about what he mentions at length in her Threat Narrative series of videos. Agency and Accountability. Men are viewed as having all the Agency, the power to act, and are thus defined by their actions almost solely, and because they have all the power, they can't have vulnerabilities. Women are viewed as having no agency so they get less respect but also less punishment. They have less responsibility but more innate worth. This is why society rewards and punishes men more, and …

It's a problem, imo. A lot of Red Pillers are basically the equivalent of RadFems. They see conspiracies where they don't exist, and have an inflated victim complex. I'd rather not see Mens Rights become a mirror of Feminism. It hurts the cause overall.

Since when are you the arbiter of what is an appropriate response to bodily autonomy violations? Since when are you the arbiter of my own observations? I'm not making a concrete statement of fact. You do not need a point of comparison, to know that destroying healthy and functional tissue, leaves one without that tissue. I'm saying a small band of tissue is a small component. A better analogy than the whole arm being cut off is maybe the pinky being cut off. And to complete the analogy, these pe…

I made my point in my first comment: Extremism, Hyperbole, and Victim Complexes exist in most movement. Extreme sense of personal grievance over circumcision seems to be a common theme in the MRM's most extreme. As for side effects, people who have never not been cut claim they lost sensation or are premature ejaculators or delayed ejaculators or any number of things based off of being cut. With no point of comparison. Ignoring that these problems also occur in uncircumcised males. This is the z…

I never said people shouldn't be allowed to speak. I'll upvote this thread. Upvotes all around! I'm just sharing my personal observation: The people that seem to get most worked up over this topic seem to also tend towards being the more extreme edges of the MRM. I said in the very last sentence of my initial commenting: Infant circumcision constitutes a true violation of bodily autonomy. And that's terrible. But I feel like making it out to be a deep psychological trauma is comparable to the co…

I like it. I was cut as an adult, for aesthetic purposes (read: not phimosis or any other disorder) so I was fully functional both before and after. And honestly, it made no difference. I last a bit longer in bed but that was never an issue to begin with. I notice no difference in sensation. The only physical, mechanic different in operation is less skin to move around. My main contention with circumcision is this discussion. So many people who have either only ever been un-cut or people who wer…

I doubt they'd even have to lobby. They do such a good job of pushing their side at the exclusion of others that a lot of people represent the Feminist position with no coercion or incentive just because it's the only position they've been exposed to in the discussion. The most effective method I've ever found for exposing Feminism to people is just informing them of the other side of the discussion.

Pointless divisiveness. MRAs outside of Elam's circle have no reason to make apologies for his questionable sense of humor. The facts matter. Elam's personality, satire, writing style, etc, are irrelevant beside those facts.

Erin Pizzey is still very much alive, though her pet was killed on her lawn on Christmas Eve by Feminists, compelling her to leave the UK. She still does shows with AVFM. I think you're confusing her with Earl Silverman, a Canadian DV survivor who tried to fund a Men's DV shelter in Canada but had trouble getting any state support despite hundreds of Women's Shelters floating along happily. He went bankrupt, had to close the shelter, sell his house, etc, then hung himself in the garage.
