I lived in Japan for the better part of a decade and traveled around Asia a lot - at least once every two months - and I also lived a few months in Manila. My 2 cents is if you’re going to Philippines and want beach life hang out around Cebu and neighboring islands (Bohol, Bantayan, Malapascua - especially if you SCUBA dive).
