Although I applaud your moral fortitude (most men here would encourage guys to fuck their BFF's mom for the sake of getting laid), /u/nitnutt has a good point; if he finds out from her, in some fashion, you're friendship is done for. If you tell her, at least he has an opportunity to forgive a bro...although personally, I probably would not. (I know you were both single, but that was his almost fiance at one point....
