Second this. I used to think frat guys were a bunch of douche bags obsessed with beer, sports, sex and popping their collars on their massive collection of polo shirts. I'll admit, they are stereotypes for a reason, but there are lots of fraternities with the few to zero of these guys in them. They have far more to offer than I ever realized. Approach everyone. Next time you're at the gas station try chatting with the clerk for a minute or whoever else is in line. Very true. However, in my experience, the main reason behind empathizing over problem solving is that women often don't give a shit about fixing the issue, they just want to be heard. They want someone to understand the problem and feel shitty about it with them.

*Show her you have her back by empathizing, not by trying to fix situations. IMHO this is by far the most important piece of advice in the whole post. 99.9% of males who actually take the time to listen often try to show that they are listening by helping to resolve the issues their woman is talking about. This is all well and good, but the rare 0.1% are set above all others because they empathize, not problem solve. To a woman, this is what 'listening' is all about.

There's plenty of information out there if you search seddit for it. Everyone has their own theories. Personally, I think paying or not paying is good either way, provided you want to. However, don't mistake want with inclination. Most people feel inclined in order to avoid confrontation, awkwardness, etc. If that is the case, I'd consider you a chump. My favorite is a race car driver if you're going for complete BS. Otherwise I put a spin on what I actually do. I was working at a liquor store, I got to sample a lot of stuff during my shift so I can truthfully tell people I get paid to drink all day, or my summer job if it works out will involve scraping weeds off the bottom of a lake thus I can say something like I'm an underwater gardener.
