If you don't want it to be the whole date tho, you can arrange something (movie, dinner, whatever) and meet her to go shopping beforehand. Tell her you just wanted to grab a pair of jeans and could use her opinion. Bam. Phone calls can be awkward, but are pretty useful when done correctly. The trick is doing it appropriately.
