I agree that the whole world going vegan (not vegetarian, there's plenty of horrible stuff that goes on in egg and dairy production) will take a very long time and will require many steps. Humans can be omnivores, but we don't need to be, in absence of a necessity, how do you morally justify causing unnecessary death and suffering?

And my point is that the lives of pigs have value and should not be killed for pleasure

What I think is the contradiction is that you believe there is a difference between killing for taste pleasure Vs killing for thrill pleasure. I'm not sure of a morally relevant reason you've yet presented. Your use of the term "quasi-sentient" I believe refers to farm animals. If yes, I urge you to read up on the intelligence of all farm animals, but most specifically pigs.

In both scenarios the death is needless. You do not need to eat meat, you could simply have beans instead of beef. I'm not arguing that one evil excuses another, I'm arguing that both are evil. All I want is you to be morally consistent,. Why is it okay to needlessly kill for taste pleasure but not okay to needlessly kill for thrill pleasure?

Death is death. While I'd prefer to not be killed, I'm sure I'd rather be a deer killed by a hunter than a pig killed by a gas chamber

Couldn't you argue that hunting to feed (and by extension eating meat) is simply for pleasure too? You could simply eat something else, you don't need to eat meat. I'm not sure (for most) that the reason you'd chose beef over beans boils down to anything more than pleasure.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
