monks would have to accept whatever they found in their begging bowls, including meat, provided that they had not seen, had not heard, and had no reason to suspect that the animal had been killed so that the meat could be given to them. This is what I was referring to. If a host buys meat with the direct intention of feeding you, then the animal had been killed so that the meat could be given to you. Giving food to a beggar vs preparing food for a planned guest are very different scenarios.

That's not really Buddhist though. Buddhists refuse all meat from animals that were killed for them. Even if a host buys the meat for you, that animal was still killed for you. It would be Buddhist if you only eat the unwanted meat that the host had already and wasn't going to eat anyway.

If you want to minimise suffering you have to leave society completely. First, that would be eliminating suffering, not minimizing it. Second, that just isn't possible for the vast majority of people. Just because we can't be perfect, that's no reason to try at all. Did you not read what I wrote? It is scientifically acknowledged that cats can eat vegan food, when it is properly fortified. Your feelings don't change that.

Yeah, screw us for trying to minimize the suffering in the world, right?? Also, cats are obligate carnivores, but under the care of humans they don't have to be. If a vegan cat food is sold in Europe, it has to meet regulations. This website provides some information on the subject.
