It's like the women couldn't even process what the guy was saying. He was a true gentleman, though, and dealt with the situation as well as anyone could have.

In this whole thread has anyone said anything that would lead you to think that we were not aware of a distinction between physically forcing someone and having drunk sex?

Just as there are men who get off on raping women because they get off on the power thrill, there are women out there who frame men for rape because they get off on the power thrill.

Maybe millennials are pretty smart after all. Arnett says millennials may see their elders’ licentious behavior as a cautionary tale. “It’s not only that they have fewer sexual partners than the baby boomers did, but they also drink less, they smoke less, the crime rate is half now than it was 20 years ago, teenage pregnancy has plummeted—it’s part of this broader pattern of less risky behavior,” he explains. “It could be that the children saw the consequences of not following the rules—high div…

In the short term, exercise prudence. I realize that's vague, but that's what it comes down to. If a young man is drinking with a woman, and she is getting drunk, and he wants to have sex with her, he can choose to do so, but he ought to realize that he is gambling with his very freedom and reputation. Therefore, he ought to take great care to know what kind of character she has. Basically, young men have to become more selective and be guided less by their hormones and neural reward pathways. R…

I'm going to play devil's advocate here and say that the poster actually serves a valuable function. It shows young men who go to bars and universities how society and law actually function. It is, unfortunately, an honest depiction of reality. That is, the police and court officials are not going to care if you were both drinking and had sex; if the woman says she was raped the next day, and she was drunk, none of the other factors matter. This sort of poster serves as a heads up for guys who d…

SJW: You are a man! You are privileged! Me: Nope. SJW: SEE!?!? The fact that you don't see your privilege is evidence of your privilege! Me: So the less someone sees their own privilege the more privileged they are, correct? SJW: Yes! People like YOU!!! Me: So you and your other SJW pals who are constantly feeling victimized and underprivileged? You don't see yourselves as privileged, right? SJW: We are victims of the PATRIARCHY! Women are much less privileged than men! Me: So, you, as a woman, …

I wonder how she would have been dealt with had the motorcyclist been an attractive woman.

The one time I got into a car accident, it was with an attractive young woman. I'm on my way to work, driving straight through an intersection as the light turns amber/yellow. Another driver is coming from the opposite direction and waiting to make a left turn. Apparently, she decides that because the light is changing colors that she has the right of way. So, rather than checking if anyone is coming head on, she just goes for it. I see this coming and manage to slow down (it was a 70 km/h zone)…

But the crew was not innocent, and they happily pushed boundaries they shouldn't have. I disagree. They are certainly pushing boundaries. First, by raising awareness about something many people don't think about. Second, by refusing to be censored (removing her hand from the camera). And third, by refusing to let her get away with assault. Perhaps I've missed something, but I can't see why they "shouldn't have" done any of the above. I can see the genders being reversed and someone claiming the …

Obviously the crowd just realized that 'Tinkerbell' is a weak, defenseless woman and that the big, strong men couldn't possibly be harmed by her. On a more serious note, this video really epitomizes the pussy pass and its inherent logic, which many feminists today (and this confounds me) perpetuate: women should be seen as children and treated as such. The title of the video is spot on in labeling this a tantrum, since that's exactly what it is. The problem is that even children have consequence…

I see you're getting downvoted, and I accept the fact that I will for agreeing with you, but it is quite true. I love the concepts of egalitarianism and spreading awareness about men's rights issues, but the approach taken by many in this sub doesn't seem to be the way to do it.

This is really quite exaggerated. I can't provide a source, but I remember learning that Wikipedia is actually more accurate than the Encyclopedia Britannica (or something along those lines). Most changes made on Wikipedia are caught very quickly, and if they don't add up, they are removed just as fast.

I don't think you understood. Maybe my writing is not clear enough. I don't place value in my ability to be a meatshield. Where did I say that? I place value in my ability to protect those I love, in whatever situation, and by whatever means necessary. The way you phrase something alters the meaning of a sentence. Here's a tip: when having a discussion, be charitable to the other person's position. Basically, don't strawman. It's too easy, and doesn't actually serve your best interests if your i…

If the majority of /r/MensRights agrees with him, I don't want to be a part of it. According to them, I should feel ashamed to be proud of being a protective man. It's the same bullshit from feminism that makes women feel ashamed for being proud to be nurturing women and mothers. This is where these movements fail. When we are denied an identity we actually are proud to inhabit. Men's Rights should be about the law. About child custody, equal sentences for the same crimes, acknowledgement of mal…

This is true, but on some level, wouldn't you agree? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for egalitarianism, but when it comes down to it, there are certain things about being a man that I'm proud to fulfill. If I'm with someone I love, regardless of gender, and I feel that strong, protective emotion surge through me in a time of crisis, I'm going to feel proud to take those bullets.

I'd like it if we could all stop shitting on each other and admit that we're all heroes and villains Well said. Trying to direct a movement like men's rights is not like taking aim with a rifle. It's more like trying to point a hurricane toward a specific location. These sorts of things just happen. All discussion should be welcomed, in my opinion. I mean, I do agree with OP, but it's really quite fruitless to try and stop it. It's all just going to happen in whatever way it happens. And that wa…

The essence of my comment was really that we could rise above our humanity if we were to one day fully understand what it is to be human.

My point was not that this is what happens in all cases where one discovers a contradiction in one's beliefs. I wanted to illustrate a simple, clear scenario where a person's beliefs actually do change. This is not a logical process to be implemented by someone like Bob. It is purely descriptive.

I agree, this is highly dependent on what sorts of beliefs are in question. I also make efforts to avoid putting myself under any label or -ism. Edit: By the way, pi is closer to 3.1416 than 3.1415 because the next digit is 9.

If you are going to talk philosophy, you should consider your edit from a logical point of view: You accept the findings of the study. You maintain your initial position. This is a logical contradiction. You have just proven my point. Even though evidence was provided to you, you maintained your initial position.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I remember hearing about such studies in school but alas I am too lazy to even do a google search. I wonder if there are reliable studies that show how people's beliefs are swayed. If I had to make an educated guess, I would think that it looks something like this: Bob believes X. Bob discovers Y and believes Y. Bob's belief in Y fundamentally conflicts with belief in X. Bob rejects X. (This is assuming that the belief in Y supersedes belief in X.) …

Do you have evidence to support this? I have actually found the opposite: that dissent of people's positions, supported by evidence and logical arguments, cause them to be even more entrenched in their initial beliefs. Edit: I was just made aware of a post that provides some links to studies that elaborate on this phenomenon.

I think the point blueoak9 was making refers to individuals -- not feminists in general. At a certain point, there is really no use in arguing with some people. In fact, it is beneficial to discontinue the discourse with such individuals, since the less their poor, emotional arguments are propagated, the less they will infect the weak minds of others.

It's not from a study, but a quote that shows how long this has been known. "When a person is determined to believe something, the very absurdity of the doctrine confirms them in their faith." -Junius

It seems like a problem with society in general that everyone is racing to be the biggest victim. We are always so blissfully ignorant until something terrible happens and it's shoved in our faces by the media. Only then do people want to say something or do anything about it. Unfortunately, people's natural reaction usually ends up being emotional, and they bring out the torches and pitchforks.

I'm somewhat torn. Part of me wants to say that this quote is applicable to gender issues, and another part wants to say that it's probably not the sort of thing Voltaire was talking about. My instinct is telling me that Voltaire was talking about people in high positions of political influence (royalty, politicians, merchants, clergy) or those who enforce the rule of those people (judges, officers, military). I could be wrong, as I cannot read the mind of a dead man, and have no context for thi…

The funny thing is that I think this sort of behavior (Karen, SRS), whether they are trolls or not, helps the MRM. There's no such thing as bad press, right? This sort of stuff gets people talking, and that's all we can really hope for without being unrealistic about our expectations of people's intellects.

This is the main problem I run into, as well. You can't say something like, "Statistically, women have less severe punishment for the same crimes," without someone who doesn't sympathize with the MRM at all responding, "But, what about the wage gap?!?"

I visited Auschwitz when I backpacked Europe. It was my first time traveling alone and I had just turned 19. It was an incredible experience. The place was just horrific, and that's when it was full of tourists instead of starving, abused people. The things that got to me most were the piles of personal belongings, like shoes and glasses. It really hits you that each one of those things belonged to a person -- probably totally innocent, and possibly a child. In all likelihood they were murdered …
