I got divorced after 17 years, I get the pain. It hurts but that's the game you play. You can't open yourself up without opening to to potential bad stuff too it's a gamble. It's the nature of trust itself. You have to try and mitigate is much as you can, but eventually you have to wing it, trust your gut. I'm sorry you were hurt, I'm sorry for myself too. It's entirely possible to decide that it's not worth the risk and never open up again. That wasn't the path I took but I've known others who …

You can't ever know anybody really. All you do is have enough past experience with them to make you feel like you can predict their future behaviour enough to feel like you can trust them. To know someone would imply they were static, but we aren't, we change every second. Also how can you know somebody else when it's highly unlikely you even know yourself really, have you ever surprised yourself before? Trust is called trust because you are taking a risk by showing your belly to somebody. You c…

She's not your business anymore dude. If you are disappointed in her, then you dodged a bullet. Move on, she has. The version of her you think she was, doesn't and never did exist. Who she is now is who she always was or has always been part of her. Just leave her in the past.

Yeah once the relationship is over the knives come out. Ive not heard of many divorces where this isn't the case. And this sounds sexist but it's the truth, it's usually the women who turn first and get vicious fast. The UK has no fault divorce laws now, so it doesn't matter who cheats or really does anything anymore. As far as the divorce goes, it's a 50/50 split regardless. Which has made the process more civilised. But it still happens where the ex wife even if it's her fault, still tries to …

You don't need to forgive, it's not mandatory. Right now you are in the trenches. Expecting yourself to fight the war and forgive you enemy at the same time is asking too much of anybody. Right now your priority is your kids and yourself. Just focus on that. Later on, much later can come forgiveness. But remember that the forgiveness is for you, not them. It's ONLY so you can move on without bitterness, not to let them get away with anything. But that's much much later. Just focus on getting thr…

EDIT: Hey OP I don't think my answer was actually that relevant. I don't have kids so how the hell do I know how to deal with your stuff. I wrote this as it came to me but I was speaking more to my own issues in the end I think. My points are still relevant for you, but only in the academic sense, because you HAVE to live with what's happening, you can't just shrug it off. I'm wish you the best. Don't be wrong OP. If you don't mind me saying. Don't know why this came to me sorry if it's off base…

I never really understood the accept bit. I can accept that if I need to go out when it's raining, I'll get wet and there's no use in getting angry about it assuming I've taken the steps I can you moderate how much at affects me. But applying this to real life mostly just feels like understanding that today I get that shitty end of life, no I didn't deserve it, no there's no guarantee it will ever change, no there's no justice or payback for it. Damn right it's not easy.

This sounds very cool. Can you explain what this means in relation to OPs comment?

Because nobody cares about men. That's pretty much the truth, speaking as a man who went through divorce. There are some support services and the number is growing, look them up in your area. But they cater to men in general not divorce specific.

Because as a man guilt is assumed. If she cheated you clearly did something to force her right? If she had enough, you clearly drove her to whatever she did at the end. As a man it's assumed that WE messed up, and I think post divorce is hard to think of the past relationship as anything other than a personal failure. Women are entitled and encouraged to do whatever they want because they deserve it. Men are told we have the world at our feet and it anything goes wrong it must be us as fault. Ob…

The idea was to break evenly, but the moment it looked like we are splitting for real she and her family screwed me out if a lot of money and treat me like I was a bad guy. It was like they just changed how they saw me and for no reason at all, I did nothing wrong. I would have liked to at least stay civil and it was me who was the one who got hurt and mistreated, but no, fuck me right? I'm a guy, just fucking deal with it.

No i think you misunderstand me. We don't have much money as my gf doesn't work ATM, she's a student. So we are only able to go to very cheap places. I agree there's plenty of world to see I was talking more or less locally.

Being with somebody for 17 years in one area unfortunately doesn't leave many new places to try. Not my first choice to be honest.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
