I think the practical issues are- are you going to go to church together? If so, whose church? Are you just going to follow her? That's a red flag in a bunch of ways. Then- how about baptizing your children? What are you going to teach them? These things can be surprisingly messy, so I'd make sure you were on the same page before going much further. I don't really understand this. God's law exists for a reason. Breaking God's law always causes harmful consequences, and this post vividly illustrates some of those harmful consequences. Maybe the most "blue-pill" factor in it is the girl is sort of just treated as a victim instead of a perpetrator.

Some thoughts: Re: Singing-- Jesus sang a psalm with the disciplines after the celebration of Passover, as would have been the Jewish custom. Paul and James both command us to sing psalms and hymns (Ephesians 5:19, Colossians 3:16, James 3:5). 1 Corinthians 14:26 assumes the presence of singing in a worship service. Hey, RC. Thanks so much for the comments. I agree with a lot of what you said. I do think a lot of what the traditional church does on a Sunday morning is defensible Scripturally. Thanks, OZ. Great comments. I'm encouraged to know that your list of what you expect to see would generally not happen at my church. You'd be greeted by men. I'm usually the only man up front, and there are never women leading anything in worship. Not to brag but one of the best compliments I ever got about my church was, This is a church where a man can worship.

That makes sense. Thanks. I don't know if a response is necessary, but I remember numerous passages in the Scripture telling us, especially office-bearers in the church, to care for the church in a proper manner, as the Scriptures tell us. Acts 20:28 comes to mind.

Thanks, I really appreciate your thoughts. I absolutely agree about forgiveness- David was forgiven for his sin with Bathsheba and Uriah, but the Lord still brought consequences on them. And that was the point I made with her. I made the decision to allow more contact mainly because at a certain point I decided that if she was still coveting this relationship it might be best to let her see the fruits of that for herself. Well, I appreciate the encouragement, but to be honest I don't have much confidence at all that I made the right choices through all of this. This isn't exactly a situation you can just pick up a book about- "What to do when your Christian wife whom you love and have been married to for 24 years 'accidentally' has a same-sex affair even though she's straight." I don't remember that class in seminary.

But your examples aren't all great ones--Ruth adopted the faith of Naomi before she ever met Boaz. -Zipporah's father was Jethro, a priest, who appears to have some knowledge and allegiance to Jehovah. Thanks for the good advice. The one sticking point for me is 4 right now- not that I disagree, but she is applying to colleges right now, Christian colleges, but still. I'm very aware of all the problems you cite.
