house wives in the 50s took anti-depressants and were subjected to lobotomies, sometimes against their will. it is well known that these housewives struggled with depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and “housewife psychosis”. a lot (not all) husbands were both physically and mentally abusive. spousal rape was legal until 1993. think about that for a second.

I agree with you a lot here, I think oftentimes gender roles can harm both women and men, like it doesn’t really benefit anybody
