Former canadian lifeguard here. The Pia carry was undoubtably the hardest part of my lifeguard testing. I was generally one of the strongest swimmers in any of my swim classes and performing the pia carry on someone 30lbs more than me required me to practically drown myself. I can't imagine I would EVER use this carry unless I was saving a small child or there were no other options possible.

I had that exact situation happen to me. I never ask for the request stop but some women got off right at my stop so I thought why not get out here too. I was told I was not allowed to exit the bus there and would have to wait till the next block. I was 17 at the time too.

I am aware of the purpose of the WISEWOMAN program. I don't really know whether this story is true or not and honestly it doesn't matter. What I care about is the inequality in such a gendered program. Cardiovascular disease affects both genders and any programs trying to reduce it should treat it as such. The only exception I would make is a program to try and raise awareness of the huge variety in heart attack symptoms, with much of the unknown varieties occurring in women.

I find it objectionable that such a program would turn away a man who fits all other criteria other than gender. Cervical and ovarian cancer are uniquely women's problems, cardiovascular disease is not. I don't care what the history of it is, men and women should be treated equally. Also to your point about more women dying, I feel overall mortality is a misleading statistic. I don't see anything wrong with having two categories for forced penetration and being force to penetrate, as long as body categories are considered and treated equally. I hope there would also be a category for women on women rape as well.
