The Violence is cultural. The still use Islamic history to incorrectly justify the violence because it is convenient. Violence in Islam is only supposed to be for self defense. It says to kill you enemies where you find them if they are attacking you, but if your enemy seeks peace then you must grant it because Allah is merciful.
