I appreciate your comments. I think you are right about having male friends that fulfill different roles. Something I haven’t really considered but should. I have just kind of gathered friends as I have gone through life without much consideration as to how they contribute to my life beyond companionship.

This is a great post and this topic is one that I have contemplated quite a bit. First, just a quick anecdote that hit home with me. I have an on-again, off-again, girlfriend. She is extremely gregarious, while I am naturally more introverted. Her social circle is huge from my perspective and she has a number of male friends. After a very short while from when we first met, her guy friends started contacting me and asking me for all kinds of advice; everything from relationship to career. When I…

I am in the same boat as you, and you make some great points. The only critique I have is your take on the “best years” part. I have lots of friends my age that lament how they wasted time, but I try to encourage them that your best days are right now. I get that you are giving the younger generation great advice, which is admirable. But since my perspective has improved I am living my best life now and I think it’s important to demonstrate to us older gents that we can still make a positive dif…

Like most of you, I have had my blue pill moments. However, one area that I have consistently gotten right is the cutting contact with exes. Just recently, a mutual friend of my current girlfriend and myself was telling us about his ex girlfriend that keeps reeling him back in. I bluntly told him to block her on everything and then move on. The interesting part wasn't his reaction (which was dismissing the notion), but rather my girlfriend's. She asked, "if we break up, you will cut contact with…

Great point on the ex lovers. I have a few male friends that are always in contact with several ex's. I tell them that if it is an ex, then the default should be zero communication. When they shoot me surprised looks, I try and reason with them by asking them what are they getting out of the relationship. They usually have no answer, or worse, some answer that relates the emotional benefits of friendship. Then I point out all of the time, effort and money spent on the ex's and my friends get def…

A little different perspective. I am dating a self-proclaimed feminist. She is incredibly bright, self-sufficient and independent. She pays for 1/2 of pretty much everything we do together. She doesn't go overboard regarding feminist comments but they come out occasionally. I don't argue, but don't try and assuage her by agreeing with every thing she says regarding those topics either. But the following is the noteworthy part to me. When we first started dating, we both met after work at her pla…

My significant other activated this on my phone. She, either wittingly or unwittingly, screwed up by telling me she had done this. I turned it off immediately without telling her. She called me on the phone within 15 minutes of it being disabled and was shocked that I had disabled it. Her argument, if you can call it that, was that if I wasn't doing anything wrong, I had no reason to disable it. I calmly told her that I was a grown-ass man and that I can go where ever I please without being trac…
