Death is honestly the only thing that will ever change standards in the fire service. We try to be proactive, with support from chiefs, all the way to fresh candidates; no luck. Too much red tape to justify the costs and retraining to prevent something that might never happen. But once a firefighter dies, it's like everything gets kicked into overdrive. NFPA 1001 certified firefighter here Oh fuck yeah it makes a difference. Sure we're taught maneuvers, but it's all about time. We have mazes we have to go through while blindfolded, on air, and in full PPE. The time difference between females and males is astounding. 21	The ignorance and loathing is real Mansplaining isnt a real thing though. It's just classifying something that we all do, with a gender specific prefix. Now being an asshole is very much real, but you can't confuse the 2. If I act extremely condescending to you or someone else, I'm not mansplaining, I'm just an asshole.
