I think the point is that if you're both chasing each other, it's not chasing. Chasing implies trying to catch something that's pulling away. At that point you're just attracted to each other and you both know it. But if you consider chasing to be when someone asks the other person out, etc. without certainty the other will say yes, then yeah there's that too.

But men have a tendency to be fine sleeping with and asking out anyone who is bearable and has a vagina. I actually agree with that - and tbh, the suggestion of castration for criminals that I've seen in the thread honestly doesn't sound like a bad idea. The only shame being that some criminals already have children. But at the very least, numbers can lower over time, and those children can be cared for so they don't go down the same route.

There’s a clear difference between being “not nice” (brash, direct, etc.), and being a liar, cheater, ghoster, and generally a person who doesn’t respect boundaries and consent. I agree with you on some things. We should legalize cannabis. Victims should be able to speak out. And to be honest, the 2% statistic surprised me — to me that’s kind of high. I agree that it can only be gradual. Some people (cough in this thread cough) might think teaching empathy in school and having school therapists is dystopian, but I see it as one of those necessary gradual changes. Improvements in education and poverty are required, which would actually do a lot.

I will say that East Asian countries have a slew of problems, even if crime rates are low: in South Korea specifically, misogyny/feminism is extreme, suicide rates are high, birth rates plummeting, and they’re just recently dealing with a huge chat room scandal where men would share abuse videos and deepfakes of women they know. We can largely prevent criminal scum from becoming such if we intervene early. And although it’s hard, we have to have a level of understanding and empathy for why they become like that. Nothing can be done when they act on it. They must be punished then. But we largely know why people turn to crime. That is very true. Even if the problems still exist, they’ve gotten better over time and continue to get better. It’s just harrowing to think it still happens. But the most we can do is continue to improve over time, have better systems in place… and provide adequate social, emotional, and economic support for people before they get to a point where murder and crime sounds like a better alternative than treating others well. I agree that custody laws are extremely sexist. But both of these problems exist at the same time. Many fathers are prevented from being a part of their kids’ lives, and many fathers also abandon their kids. It’s not misinformation, just the reality — the topic isn’t as black and white as all fathers are bad, or all fathers are good. Many mothers are reasonable to escape abusive partners. But some abusive mothers abuse their partners through their kids as well.

I suppose the prevalence of and access to mental health care is increasing, but it is hard to wait for it to get better. Not to mention mental healthcare is not accessible to everyone. For all violent offenses committed in 2023, there were over 1,000,000 victims. For rape, it was over 100,000 victims. Homicide, 16,000. This of course doesn't count unreported cases. Of course. But odds of finding them drastically decrease if you look on dating apps, at nightclubs, etc. or if their friends are known toxic people. A good partner often has a good head on their shoulders and is more selective about who to let in their lives, whether man or woman. They're harder to find for a reason.
