I get social enforcement from all around of the idea that I'm letting sand slip through my fingers. I'm losing my physique. I'm losing my youth. But shouldn’t it be that I’m gaining rather than losing? I may be missing your point, but it sounded like you were starting off saying that you are "letting sand slip through your fingers", then you proceed to talk about how much more valuable you are becoming. I completely agree (and I might have gotten your point wrong) that you are increasing your wo…

These are both people from /r/malefashionadvice. Merely changing your haircut and wearing nicer clothes can drastically change how you look. When you change how you look you feel like a new person and that changes how you feel and you can gain so much confidence. Hair http://i.imgur.com/dyXiP Clothes http://i.imgur.com/9Qr4H

Or be bold and say, "I bent my wookie"

I don't think I agree with telling them how you really feel. "I've been depressed lately" -awkward moment- Seriously, though, when they ask you how you're doing say, "Good, and yourself?" Practice expanding the conversation. Ask them their opinion on something they are selling. I think several other people mentioned you should just go talk to people. You will only get better with practice. This is an easy form of practice because they are forced to talk to you for their job. Which means you defi…

Seriously, braces are very common. If you don't notice them, neither will anyone else. Good luck. =D

This might sound weird, but I think you should do something you don't usually do and succeed at it. I just made a post about approaching a random girl for the first time ever. I literally walked up to her and said Hi, my name is ____. I was bored and wanted to talk to someone. We had a pleasant conversation for 30 mins(at my university), then we both had class at 6 pm and parted ways. I am now ready to try it again, because I acted normal and didnt try any weird lines. I approached honestly abou…

Don't complicate it, don't spend forever trying to find the perfect window, just do it. Wonderfully said.

She actually asked me what city I was from. I'm glad it didn't go to much farther. Like I said I wasn't very interested in her. I was just happy I ignored my approach anxiety and wanted to thank everyone in this subreddit. I appreciate all the advice too.

Yup in college. Hi certainly did work. We started talking about classes and she even asked me a few questions. (this led me to believe that I wasnt just bugging her) I'm glad that I did because I realized I wasn't very interested in her. It was better than me wondering, what if i had said hi to her. Thanks for the advice.

Don't go over and introduce yourself. I agree with this in some cases. But, as you read, I spent 30 minutes thinking about it. I definitely surveyed the environment. She was sitting there bored and not doing anything. In that case I figured it was ok to acknowledge that we were both bored. We had a nice conversation. Thanks for the advice too! =D

I concur. What if the guy says it? (in my scenario i laugh it off as a joke before actually requiring her to say another compliment)

I loved the "Go on..." response enough to try it out loud. It has the right amount of confidence (that you think there are more good qualities to list) without sounding too full of yourself (as long as you said it in a joking tone)

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
