It's something you have to enjoy the process of in order to actually get better. Like anything if you don't enjoy the practice then you're not going to get good. It's just about finding the aspects of it that you enjoy. Me personally, I genuinely am curious about what everyone does in their free time so that's where I naturally gravitate conversations towards and I drill drill deeper until they are basically on autopilot telling me everything about their miniature garden gnome collection.

i would definitely suggest you be careful with hittingo on girls at a gym you go to frequently. it's like the "don't shit where you eat" mentality. Having said that, I've done it and it's worked BUT once that fling ended it was tough pushing past the reputation of being that guy.

Never denied that it happened. I'm sure there are girls out there that would say that, albeit outliers. But to use that example as evidence that a tactic like this would work is just misleading.
