I think pushing forward with your agenda despite the critics/opposition is more important and constructive than wasting that energy complaining about it. Powerful positive messages that encourage people to get shit done are way more constructive than nitpicking/whining about the opposition being unfair or underhanded or whatever. Granted, if that agenda is in direct opposition to something they are trying to get done that you don't like, by all means say your piece and get the word out, but then…

Ah, my apologies, I'll try and find a definition and edit it into the post!

Hm, its very interesting that Matriarchy and Patriarchy aren't parallel terms in feminism, quite thought provoking. In your example there though, in a multicultural society, to properly respect the diversity, some measure of distance between cultures is necessary right? This has the effect of preserving that diversity, but also making interaction between the cultures more strained, as some things will have to be different. Naturally what will be borne from that is XYZ people have this better tha…

Her name doesn't ring a bell to me, but preference theory certainly does, very fascinating reading. The few studies/lectures I've encountered seem incredibly solid, lots of factual basis and statistics. It raises the interesting point that, even if women are granted complete autonomy, there are trends in their choices. I'm not quite read up on it enough to make comments on how it holds up when you consider economic and societal pressures, if you know of any writing on that topic I would be very …

Ah, so they do exist! I figured as much, since I'd heard that the top 500 wealthiest businessfolks were pretty much 50/50 male/female, guess I need to watch more news! (for reference, I'm from the UK so we don't get too much coverage on election campaigns in the US) I think people like Steve Jobs are 1 in a billion people for sure, but the difference in my eyes is that while Jobs and Branson and so on are household names, celebrity-businessmen of sorts, their female counterparts aren't quite as …

Thanks very much! Just what I was looking for. Not got enough time at the moment to look beyond the first page of those, are these mostly the feminist theory/woman's studies views or analyses? Either way is fine, just wanting some against to go with my for. Keeping an even spread is important in both science and toast. Thanks again!

Hmm, sound argument, thanks. I do agree that public institutions certainly do not have the monopoly on power, and that at least at a social level women do have the dominating influence. However, being in a capitalist society means that private businesses and organisations have a large slice of power pie, and the argument I see for patriarchy theory tends to be that the business world is a very male environment, and men have their fingers on the economic buttons. Obviously your argument does addr…

Great reply, thanks for the insight! I do wonder though, is there a particular set of criteria that have to be met for something to be patriarchal or matriarchal? I read somewhere for example that Bonobos social behavior is considered matriarchal as males were found to defer to females, and that females had higher social standing among the community or something to that extent.

I don't think they back it, just that it is a theory up for consideration, and as such could well have some academic writing on the subject.

Yeah, excuse me for not immediately tackling a massive crazy dude, allegedly covered in his own piss and shit, and athletic enough to be doing fucking backflips while tripping. Seriously though, people did step up and dive onto this guy when he was assaulting both of the women in this video, though they left the guy who did so at the start (in the blue shirt) to fend for himself while the dude was chasing him :/ Can't see anything to complain about at all, especially seeing as how people are rou…
