Most (if not all) men want sex on SOME level. It's really about how strong that "want" is and what men are willing to do (or not do) to get sex (under differing circumstances). Having said that, I WAS taught that a woman wouldn't want to invest her time (and her body) in a man who was not going to treat her well. Basically, feminism has taught women to desire men who have feminine traits. If the latter don't have those traits then they are automatically toxic and/or abusive. Maybe it's the Mandela effect, but I thought I recalled hearing (or reading) that there was a music video for TTR that shows why she shot him. The video suggested that he was abusing her in addition to cheating on her, but again, I can't confirm that. I think the first explanation you mentioned is the biggest one. Women generally are seen as less dangerous and therefore less deserving of punishment. That theory sounds plausible. And it might explain the whole "man flu" thing. Regardless of whether men actually get sicker (or feel worse during those times) than women, there is this persistent belief that men over-dramatize their symptoms in order to get sympathy from the women around them. As kind of a side bar, a lot of people get criminal and civil proceedings confused. Some bills deem certain actions as criminal (and lay out the associated penalties), while others merely give certain parties the ability to sue in civil court. Still other bills do both. I think part of that double standard has to do with the mental associations most people make with "god" vs. "goddess". A "god" is viewed as a powerful deity and because men are mere humans, they are told to not think of themselves that way. I was brought up to not hit women, but two things are true: The admonition was in the context of a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship or a marital relationship. Maybe I misunderstand stoicism, but I tend to look at it the same way as a long-span bridge or a skyscraper. Those structures are designed to bend in different ways under load so that they DON'T fail. To me, stoicism is kind of the same thing. A man who is truly stoic isn't rigid and unfeeling; he just manages his emotions and such so that he doesn't collapse and fail under various circumstances (the "loads" analogy).

When I was a teen, I wasn't ready for a relationship, I had silly fantasies about being independent, but I never said I don't need a man. I admit that when I was a kid growing up, I didn't believe that many men WERE victims of DV. However, I never once believed that it was IMPOSSIBLE for men to be abused. There is a world of difference between the two. It would have been one thing if Heard's lawyer had merely said that men AREN'T victims of DV (which would have been false by itself). But it's a whole other ballgame entirely to claim that men CAN'T be victims of DV.

I had definitely heard about the cheating scandal, but I thought there was a situation involving a pitcher or some other player who was in a relationship with a woman and (allegedly) abused her, or he (the player) got into a fight with a woman at a bar or something. Maybe it didn't involve the Astros at all; it could have been another team entirely. Another thing I think I remember was that there was supposedly a reporter who was trying to dig up some "dirt" on that player. My mind is kinda fuzz…

To say that Carruth did NOT act in self-defense would be to validate (the now deceased) Read's case, at least to some extent. And the feminists can't have that.
