There certainly is nothing wrong with gender neutral words but the reverse is true too (beyond perhaps a mild inconvenience). Women never seemed to have much of an issue of it in the past (work was basically a male-space though, I suppose, so they didn't have much choice). I'd recommend you read Christina Hoff Sommer's "The War Against Boys" which covers education quite well. While primarily aimed at the United States, her book brings up many relevant points for the UK. In short, education isn't so good for boys right now. Edit: Corrected the spelling of "United States." The term "Gender Studies" is so broad that it is really hard to create a one size fits all rebuttal instead you have to attack individual claims. The subject itself has been criticised heavily from its inception (it was ridiculed by Sociologists during the Second Wave but sadly it infected the subject). Gender Studies cannot easily be redefined because it is connected to Feminist Ideology: that limited scope makes it possible to study easily under one degree. Gender is such a far reaching of a topic and it is covered by so many disciplines that making a single degree out of it seems like a really hard thing to do. Keep in mind that Sociology, Anthropology and Psychology will nearly always have a module or section on Gender. Among others.

No country would agree to extradite over debt (massive fraud is more the thing when it comes to money). Giving up citizenship doesn't mean that the money you owe (according to the US Government) is going anywhere but if you never go back to the US, then what are they going to do? While I get the sentiment I would like to mention a few things: 1). It doesn't cause birth defects, it causes an increase in the chances of defective genes (ie, genetic diseases (although, more likely just a slight predesposition to certain issues rather than any actual diseases)) 2). FAS is much more preventable and much more harmful 3). The Guardian article you linked wasn't particularly reputable anyway. All studies I have read on the matter haven't been particularly confident.

Hard to know really, as we have only had good documentation of such things for the last 20 - 40 years.
