In my country (Belgium) some people are also addressing the phenomenon of boys falling behind in school and rampant psychiatric issues. Hell, in some sectors the wage gap has actually reversed. ONE of the problems that has been named is that our school system is (esp. for children under 12yr old) dominated by female teachers. Which is a problem, because boys actually do need adult males (apart from their fathers) in their life to grow into healthy adults. They need other men (who they can trust)…

Yeah, it's a difficult thing and the intactivist stance is sometimes... questionable. But you have to remember that these people do feel violated. Which is, indeed, not the case for everybody. Now, basically when they are coming to terms with it, they want to scream: "I'm hurting, listen to my story" just like anyone else with trauma. But then the dismissive/ridiculing comments follow, or "I'm circumcised and I'm glad". And I've seen (and I'm not alone in that assessment) that it can be very hur…

I voted "neutral". I'm from Belgium.

I agree with your first point. I consider myself an intactivist myself and sadly there is a lot of BS going around, which is actually harming the movement. Your second point is more difficult to explain. First of all, it's not about the men who are OK, but about those who are not. And there are A LOT of men who are not OK with their circumcision, far more than is ethically acceptable. Secondly, research has shown that circumcision at a young age and/or against the will of the subject, actually c…

Female circumcision is worse than male circumcision. In reality this is a gross oversimplification, and boys are just as likely to suffer psychologically, physically and sexually, when comparing practices at the same level (for example removal of the clitoral hood vs standard circumcision of boys). https://aeon.co/essays/are-male-and-female-circumcision-morally-equivalent

Hum, I was sure about that number, but it seems I must have confused it with something else. The most stated number is 117, and here is a like to a publication: https://tylerbirthhouse.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Lostboys-EstimateofUScircumcision-relateddeaths-Bollinger2010.pdf Thank you for being critical!!

It's actually over 130 a year in the US alone, on average. And much, much more worldwide. There have also been confirmed teen suicides because of circumcision harm.

Well, there's this study that links circumcision to increased violence, especially towards the mother figure.

The story is the same as with sexual abuse: people don't talk or make no formal complaints for several reasons: - they are traumatized - taboo on sexuality - religious/cultural stigma - they still love their parents and don't want to hurt them - ... Before the sex abuse scandals in the Catholic Church came to light, many people took their secret to their grave. Others took half a century before they could talk. But that all changed and a limit was reached where it was "incontournable". And make …

I apologize for my tone, but how DF is this even possible?! And that in the country that mass performs genital mutilation on male children. I live in a town with about 104000 inhabitants. We have 2 hospitals. I just counted the number of urologists with clear expertise in male genitalia and andrologists (separate division) in the university hospital. There are 12, not counting interns. The smaller hospital has another 3.

Also gay man speaking. I agree with u/quinlov: this is not easily put in numbers. It's also "different" because we have obviously still antigay sentiments (though in my case it's really only rarely), and religious backfire (in my country it's usually from muslims). Weirdly, sometimes the gay hate comes from women. Now the interesting thing is that online as well as IRL, I've had discussions with people who were automatically assuming I was there to argue, or they were very wary or hostile of wha…

I'm from Belgium, so I probably have another view on these topics than the average American. 1 - Do you believe if yours views on men’s rights were achieved, women and men would be happier? Yes - One big issue I have is that the attempt to eradicate sexism by viewing men's and women's rights as unequal, is in itself clearly sexist. The struggle for women is different than the struggle for men, but both need attention and recognition. On the other hand maybe no: it's absurd to think that my views…

The abuse already starts with circumcision of boys. It leaves a permanent mark on the soul.

A have a lot of younger friends. No less then 4 of my male friends (!!) killed themselves in the past 6 years or so. All of them were under 25. None of my female friends did this.

I heard about places (I think Costa Rica?) where male tourists are tricked into having (unprotected) sex and then can be forced by law to support the child. Weird.

You shouldn't be ashamed of who you are. Men come in all sizes and colors. The cliché that you have to be extra masculine to be attractive is just that: a cliché. And the male cliché's are nothing but toxic for billions of men. In my own experience, I've found out that the first major factor to be perceived as attractive is self-confidence. That includes being kind to yourself and others, but also ready to set your own boundaries. I come from a place of deep insecurities and I know it's a long w…

I found the original thread (https://twitter.com/DrJessTaylor/status/1363057016034521090). Reading up on here pathetic defense in the comment section, I wonder how she ever became a doctor. Or: she's not real: https://twitter.com/HamburgerPatch/status/1687125838704087041/photo/1

These things ("stealthing") have been criminalized in Belgium in 2022!! It's now being considered a form of rape.

I appreciate your response and it's reminding me of some things, but it don't really get what you want to tell me and why. And you've made some wrong assumptions. 1) I'm perfectly aware that the USA was among the first. It was all over the news. 2) There are people here who seem to think America is backwards or crazy, or all of its inhabitants have an IQ of less than 60, but those people are a small minority and nobody with a sane mind is thinking that, and certainly not the press. We had some s…

No, not at all. His argument was that women have to deal with these situations on a much larger scale, and poasibly many men don't understand what it is to deal with that several times per day. I went along with it at the time, but since then, I've come to realize that a lot of misandry from women IS happening but stays below the radar.

My best straight friend explained it to me like this: you're getting irritated when someone approaches you when you rather preferred they didn't? Well, for some women it's like that all the time. It's of course not the same for everybody, but for a lot of women it's normal to have pretty much continuous attention (wanted or unwanted). OTOH the same can be said of hipster boys and perfectly groomed twinks ;) But that group is what we know as "the happy few", whereas women are about 50% of the pop…

Is this only in America? There was a somewhat similar discussion on Belgian TV a few days ago, about how the divide between DEM and GOP and the resulting I N S A N E rhetoric between both parties but also too many of their followers, is "unthinkable" in Europe. It's like they are both pushing the rhetoric further and further until they are bordering or even crossing the line of psychosis. What I mean is that you could argue that one or both parties propagate lies, but the fact is that an unsettl…

I think the point is mainly that in academia, women used to be grossly undervalued, had a really hard time proving their own worth, often didn't get the best positions etc... with of course more than a few notable exceptions (people like Mme Curie, who really were exceptionally gifted). But for the vast majority of women in academia it was really bad. In fact even now we had several scandals (in Belgium) in academia involving abusive, power-horny professors. I also don't like the way things are …

There was a (local, Belgian) documentary about trans people. Several people who went through the FTM-procedure attested that being a man is much harder than they thought. Of course, that's a specific frame of reference but still...

yeah but the research shows those institutions knowingly underreport or misprenent all resultss that show horrible complications both fysisal and neurological. This is (for Me),) criminal neglect and their religion shouhd not matter because boys are suffering everywere and you can't just make a religious exception because that we allow people from other cultures to have their basic human rights cut.

Euh, her jokes about let's castrate all of you, all your creepiness is in your balls is just... fucked up. As if women can't be creepy or abusive towards men. From 10:00 to 10:30 is also very interesting: abused children don't react. Could the same mechanism apply to male circumcision?
