Yeah, the conversation shouldn't be so un-sexy if you're trying to escalate things. One thing missing from what you're describing is her reaction and level of interest. If you're talking to someone about their job/family and randomly touching them and they aren't interested, you're going to creep them out. Eye contact is huge. Practice in situations where you aren't putting so much pressure on yourself. Not every conversation is a seduction. Start with common interests. Find a thing you like to do, find groups of people who also like it, hang out in the groups, talk to women naturally as the opportunities arise, and don't make every conversation a seduction attempt, or you're going to build talking to women up in your mind as a pass/fail attempt, and you're going to beat yourself up for failing.

You have to be ok with yourself first. If you're battling jealousy and anger, it's going to undercut your interactions with other people.
