Why are you talking about the British court system? This case was in Australia.

http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nsw/consol_act/aa1977204/s31a.html 2 (b) seems like it would apply... It is unlawful for an educational authority to discriminate against a student on the ground of sex by expelling the student or subjecting the student to any other detriment. I would argue that it's detrimental to your self esteem and character to be targeted in this way.

Aye, there's no distinction in Scots law between battery and assault though, so to be "Violently meancing", which can be achieved verbally could be termed as assault, whether physical contact take place or not.

Pretty much, yep.

Agreed. Feminism is supposed to be about equality for both sexes, but has lost it's way along the road somewhere. After all, if Feminism was about equality for both sexes as it claims to be, the MRM would not exist.

There is a great quote by another great Feminist, Camille Paglia, where she says 'A woman simply is, but a man must become. Masculinity is risky and elusive. It is achieved by a revolt from woman, and it is confirmed only by other men. Manhood coerced into sensitivity is no manhood at all'

If getting personal is the only way you feel you can make a point I kinda pity you. If you are what constitutes a 'grown man', god help this sub.

No because that's a quasi-scientific term for fuck all really. Me saying that your point would be better made if it wasn't so bitter sounding as that adds nothing and instead detracts, has nothing to do with the 'tone argument'. But you can keep on thinking that as is your want.
/r/MensRights19/01/14 03:46 PM

I'm not refuting the content of his argument, merely that it's hard to take seriously and as anything other than bitter, when it's caked in resentment.

Again your language of 'a shamed slut who panicked' is completely unnecessary to convey your point. It's not important that we understand anything, other than that it's just an example of why men's rights are such an important issue. We need to understand that this isn't an isolated incident and should be focussing on prevention and support (for the victims) rather than attacking the perpetrator personally. She should be trialed and charged the same way were the roles reversed. Calling her a slu…

I'm not confused, and I can read perfectly fine thank you. Regardless of it being an analogy, referring to her as a life-force sucking parasite is not the proper way to go about it. Your comment made no inference to feminism, only this woman. Your word choice and language to me just smacks of resentment, like I said. I don't pity them nor am I minimising their crimes. I just took issue with the way you chose to express your opinion. By all means carry on, I was just clarifying why I thought your…

No, your bombastic delivery of your anti-false rape accusations argument is what set up a red flag. By all means dislike false rape accusers and actively try to combat that and all its effects, but don't bring out language like 'She cannot be redeemed' 'She is a vampire' 'She was born a monster' All that language does is perpetuate the idea that we're nothing but misogynists. It does nothing to serve equality, all it does is make you look ignorant and self-righteous. e: word

Surely you're a troll? Patriarch and Matriarch are literally gendered roles for leaders. Senior male, senior female respectively. In an ecclesiastical sense, Patriarch is often a term for someone who presides over a certain Diocese (usually)

Very rarely have I considered a cosplayer a hailcorporate shill, folks like Nigri seem to do it just for the thrill and fun of dressing up, her room is testament to it. Good on you OP for defending your stance.

Chairperson and Chairwoman are widely used, so that's not really a good example. In Law it generally helps to be specific especially with something as serious as rape.

You're not breaking any rules and as far as I can tell have a balanced view of the rights movement. What a lot of people - both sides by the way - don't seem to get is that the movements are (or at least, should be) about the exact same thing. Sexual equality for all sexes. It shouldn't just be He said she said (heh) but equality across the whole spectrum. The problem is cultural bias (yes it's there) and personal bias. Male female sexism (or vice versa) is rampant, ingrained and pretty damn har…

It's sadly ironic that both movements stand for equality for both sexes but culturally there's bias against both sexes AND both movements. It boggles me.
/r/MensRights02/10/13 09:31 PM

Masculism isn't considered sexist at all if you don't consider it so. In a Feminist framework masculism is considered sexist - just like in a Masculist framework the opposite would be true. Masculism just means an advocacy for male issues or an identification with the opinions/values of men. In the same way that anti-feminism masculism is considered sexist - so too is anti-masculism feminism. They're both radical sections of the same (but opposing) movements.

Well that's a watershed program, Coronation Street is on before 9 so there's a limit to what they can get away with. Still, nobodies forcing ya! You can keep up to date by reading the blurbs on wiki or the itv website :)

It's quite prevalent in soaps over here to tackle social issues and provide numbers for helplines at the end of the show. Maybe if you watched it with someone? I'm not tryning to be insensitive it's just a really accurate portrayal of the kind of things that are happening these days. If not, just read the storyline on Wikipedia :)!
/r/MensRights01/02/13 11:36 AM

Yep, the storyline is ongoing. It has my dad literally shouting at the tv. It's got to A head now because she lunged for him and fell down the stairs and is now chargin him for abuse, when it's been her doing the abusing. He had proof but she deleted it off the phone. Quite a harrowing storyline actually.

Pretty much what good friends should do in real life. "why'd you do/say that? You're an arsehole sometimes" "damn. Yeah I guess" Friends tell you to fuck off. But at least they tell you why!
/r/MensRights31/01/13 10:56 PM

Yep you've pretty much got that clear. It's the fact that female to male rape is completely subsumed by male to female rape, because its more prominent. Its the same with domestic abuse. Which is a shame because I know a few guys who I'd say are in abusive relationships and don't know it or refuse to do anything about it because it's virtually impossible to document emotional abuse. I'm not advocating that we diminish female rape at all, just that we consider that both sexes can commit the crime…

No, in ENGLISH law there is no statute for male rape, in Scottish a provision was put into the sexual offences act (2009) to account for male rape, but not nearly clearly enough.
/r/MensRights31/01/13 05:14 PM

I should point out that on the site, there are some caveats explaining that a man can be raped/assaulted but it is very minimal. Indeed, the law in England is that a woman cannot rape a man but can only be deemed an accessory, and the phrasing of the law only covers "He", and "Penis", it does not cover a male being forced by a woman. edit: I should mention that I'm not trying to diminish or refute women being raped, only that female raping male is underrepresented in the videos.

Don't get me wrong MRAs can be guilty of hyperbole, but in this instance it's extremely irritating to be told that I'm assumed to be either a stranger or a rapist just because of my gender. What if I'm gay? Or transgender? Indefensible idiocy.
/r/MensRights31/01/13 03:35 PM

Ironically in theatre historically the female parts are played by men and vice versa.
/r/MensRights31/01/13 12:12 PM

Not only that, but the implication that a man walking through a garage alone, with a woman present, can only be a potential rapist or a stranger is farcical. It perpetuates the unease where we're not sure how to come across as friendly citizen, for fear of being attacked as a rapist or creep. It would be just as silly to say the same of the woman. The issue isn't as black and white as the author of that quote seems to believe. If by 'potential rapist' it means the potential to forcibly have sex …

Cannot agree enough. Karma means Sfa anyway, it's more important to have reasoned legible comments than worrying about a number that means nothing in the long run. If I saw more upvotes as indication of relevancy and less 'dislikes' I'd be happier.

Sounds like a great idea. A small banner with a summary of what we're about for the people who never come here usually would be beneficial in my opinion.

Why not (dont pardon the pun) kill two birds with the one stone and beat them with one hand choke with the other while you rape? I believe it's what all of us so-called mrapists are into these days. (/s)

Ah well that explains it, thanks for the link I stand corrected. I'm not sure if you aimed the wtf at me there but still, by carrying on and tarring men's rights with the same brush as the abuse and rape advocates just perpetuates the whole he said she said situation. It happened with the suffragettes so much that the suffragists made an effort to distance themselves. Taking misguided dogma as the collective attitude is foolish, imo. Edit: oops I've said thanks for the link and there wasn't one,…

I feel like this woman has no clear idea of what MRA groups are about. In what way shape or form have we supported abusers and rapists? Men's rights doesn't mean that we give carte Blanche to the degenerates of our sex. I don't know why it also gives feminists carte Blanche over the rights movement? So we can't support men who have a tough time with sex discrimination because it automatically makes us abuser sympathisers? I can't, I don't even. Um. I can't brain this article.

It's definitely Socrates. He had more than one quote along that same vein, "I know nothing except the fact of my ignorance." For example :) Edit: forgot a word.

Oh. Haha! It's good to 'meet' another guy that enjoys manicures. I feel like I can't be trusted with my own nails...
/r/MensRights24/11/12 01:01 AM

Sorry if I seemed vague. I meant that a man can still be a man while indulging in 'feminine' activities. My point was that it doesn't make a man less of one for being comfortable with doing so.
/r/MensRights24/11/12 12:54 AM

I love this. I don't like the view that a man is less of that because of his comfort with femininity. I'm not ashamed to say that I go for manicures and know when girls fake tan is shit. I have a sister and I ask questions. Being made to feel odd for being interested in 'things that girls do' is just wrong imo.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
