His debt might be federally subsidized and only costing something like 2% a year, which is less than inflation. In which case, it's smart to continue paying it down on the schedule and save what you can, to be able to have savings generally in case something goes wrong (federally-subsidized loans can be frozen, with no payments due, if you lose your job, go back to school, get sick, etc.), or to be able to have the downpayment for a house someday.

Right? Smarter women HAVE better options. The smarter you are, the more likely it is you have a good job and stable income of your own, and you get to be single rather than having to stay in some dead-end relationship with a dead-end dude, just so you can cover rent. These articles are so infuriating. As if all relationships are equally valuable, and it's always true that "in a relationship" > single. I feel like: high value relationship > single > low value relationship.
