I appreciate your honesty and share in your pain - many on here know all too well the suffering, agony, and injustice you described. I am 13 months out from Dday, divorce was finalized in March. Having to start over at 53 was not something I had on my Life Bingo Card. She is with the AP, and they are living their "best life". All of it, the good times, the struggles, the memories, the family - it was all so easy for her to walk away from and pretend like it didn't happen. I don't understand it a…

Definitely appropriate if the wound is still fresh!

You needed to go through what you went through to know what you know now. Not all love is supposed to last forever. Each expired relationship is supposed to connect you more to you.

My experience is similar to yours - didn't want to believe it even though my instincts knew something was wrong. I am not sure what exactly they are feeling/thinking. I think a lot of cheaters blame their partner so they feel justified in what they are doing. It sounds like you have a good mindset going into this - I struggled with the betrayal and all the negative thoughts and emotions that come with it for a long time. I am getting to the other side of it through lots of self-work, self-care a…

If at all possible, give up the drinking and smoking brother. It's not doing anything beneficial for you. Saying that as an ex smoker/drinker myself - you have much better things to do with your time, money, and most importantly - health!!

If you are happy being a father to your boys and otherwise enjoying your life single - then just keep doing it! Society has all of us believing that you have to be coupled up to be happy. Your own experience is showing you that is not completely true. When you meet the next good romantic prospect, it will be when you aren't looking. Just keep doing you brother!!

Was in your shoes a year ago, brother. Except my ex gave me false hope for 3 months while she was already with someone else and lying to my face about it. It's going to hurt bad and it's going to hurt for a long time, unfortunately. Always remember that you are going to be ok! I know you don't feel that way right now but you are going to be ok! This sub saved my life - lots of good men have been where you are and have gotten through it - you will too!!

I am grateful for both of the therapists that I have had to help me process this grief. My current one is kind and understanding but will also call me on my bullshit. That's a great combination in my book.

At my last therapy session, I said that I was really processing the idea of forgiveness for my ex. My therapist asked me what I hoped to gain by that and of course I gave the standard reply about it being healthy for my head and heart. She looked at me and asked "Why are you considering forgiveness for someone that wronged you, lied about it, and isn't even asking for it?" She went on to say that letting it go and being indifferent about her should be my goal.

I just had my weekly therapy session today, and we were discussing the topic of forgiveness. I have been really thinking hard about this (ex monkey branched to another guy and just lied about it and discarded me) and my therapist asked why I felt the need to forgive someone that wasn't even asking to be forgiven - great fucking question! I said that it really wasn't for my ex it was so I could quit carrying the burden of all this grief. We then delved a little deeper, and I talked about the rela…

Sorry that you are going through all of this. Kudos to you for owning your part in the breakdown of your marriage - that is a tough thing to look at and acknowledge. As far as "making a woman smile", while I get the reasoning behind your thinking, making yourself smile is probably where you need to put your efforts right now. I am 9 months out from being discarded and while I feel better than I did at the beginning I know that I I still have some healing to do yet before I can entertain the idea…

Thanks for the reply - the desert was actually one of our favorite places to explore as well. So many amazing adventures - it hurts so much to think about them all. My stbxw and I did a lot of hiking/backpacking/camping. In the last 8 months since she threw our marriage/family away I have gone and hiked some of our favorite trails. Sometimes I go alone to do what you are talking about - feel the emotions and try to find some healing/closure that she will never give to me. I have also gone with other friends and tried to create new memories so that my favorite wild places won't be forever haunted by the memories of us happy, hiking and together. Thanks so mu…

Were we married to the same woman? She broke my heart 4 times in 3 months with the lie of reconciliation all the time she was with someone else and that started before she ever mentioned divorce. Grief and betrayal is a huge hole to climb out of - but we're doing it!! Best wishes on your healing journey, my friend!!

Damn brother - that is a tough place to be. At least you have family that supports you - be grateful for that. I am 53 and this is my second divorce. You have the best years of your life ahead of you to get back on track. I am not saying it's going to be easy, but you have time on your side. 3 marriages in 8 years tells me that you need to stop trying to find your happiness in someone else and start living for you.

I am assuming that you are just starting this process? You aren't supposed to know what you are going to do right now. Your job is take each day as it comes, grieve, build a support network, take care of yourself - physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Accept and deal with the "business " side of your divorce. Remember that you are going to be ok - it doesn't feel that way right now- but you are going to be ok. Feel free to DM me if you need to talk!!

I question that a lot as well. I think it’s a very common thing to do when going through this. Whether they ever actually loved us or not is inconsequential at this point, unfortunately. We are left to pick up the pieces and move on with our lives the best we can.

That behavior right there - acting like we were never even married - and cheating and moving on seamlessly to the next relationship cuts to the very core of my soul. 8 months of weekly therapy, and I know I am healing but some days are still so hard.........

Ignore her, block her on everything except for email so you can communicate about your kids. You are no longer her emotional punching bag let alone "friend" She blew up your family and your life - she can find someone else to "gloat" to. It is hard, but being on the receiving end of this manipulation is going to make healing and moving on with your life even harder.

My stbxw wanted us to file for the divorce together - even though she was already with someone else (and lying about it) she even sent out texts to our mutual friends stating that we had a long talk and this divorce was a "mutual " decision.........seriously wtf. Being blindsided, discarded, and betrayed was bad enough, but then being coerced into making it look like it was something we both wanted was a bridge too far for me. It is fucking tough but always remember that you are tougher! Still in the legal process myself and still have tough days. The rumination and the shoulda, coulda woulda thoughts are killers at times. We have survived 100% of our toughest days to this point, and we will continue to do so! The dreams can be so hard. 7 months out from Dday and they have started to drop in frequency. Sometimes they are the happy - we are back together kind - and sometimes not. I just had one this past Saturday night - it was basically reliving the whole discard. I woke up with a serious bout of the blues. Which got me ruminating on the whole relationship and then the infidelity and betrayal. Suffice to say that Sunday was not a great day. I have come to accept that these dreams are just my brains wa…

Ahhhh, bittersweet memories. I hear ya and I feel for you my friend. Last year on this day we snowshoed up this little peak outside of town - early - in the dark - to have a fire and watch the sunrise. We talked about all of the new and positive changes in our lives. It totally does make sense, and I am sorry that we are all experiencing this pain. My father in law is the person I miss. My dad lives far away, and this man filled that void in my life. I have been going through the same thing myself - a little over 6 months out from Dday - just had one this morning where we were kissing and holding each other........I too was starting to feel better and wasn't dreaming about her and most of each day was ok. I think that the reality of the situation is that you are going to have to accept that your brain is going to be spinning for a while. I am 5 months in, and like you had the added bonus of betrayal on top of the usual grief that comes from heartache. It's fricking brutal. Another voice to say that a month is still very very new in the grief process my friend. I am coming up on 5 months and still have hard days. Pretty much how my story is playing out as well. We actually talked last Friday and I asked her if she was dating anyone - we are 2 months into this process- and she flat out said no. I don't have hard proof but enough circumstantial evidence that I know she isn't being honest. I love the replace the name technique and will give that a try! Journaling has been a really helpful way to get thought and feelings out safely as well. We live in a fair equity state, and my attorney has assured me that my moving out does not affect my equity in the home at all. She also told me I could change the locks back if I wanted because it's my house too.

IANAL or an accountant but going through this right now and am fairly sure there are laws in place to allow that transfer of money from the buyout to be tax free. I was looking at the IRS.gov site.

I am fairly certain that there is someone else but I have decided not to confront her about it because I realize that it won't change anything with this situation. Thanks for sharing your experience! I really appreciate what you said about there being many great matches out there for all of us. The thought of another relationship is both intriguing and terrifying. I am still working on getting to the acceptance part of this and there is still so much to do. I am working hard on trying to let go of my anger and bitterness towards her because I don't want to be stuck in that. I am also working on being kind and compassionate towards myself. Thanks for sharing this - our stories are very similar and we are both in the same time frame of this process. I really struggle with the thoughts of being alone and not having someone close to connect with - someone who knows me. I also realize that this next chapter of my life gives me time to really learn to be happy with just myself. I spent a lot of time trying to seek my validation in the opinion of my stbx. I wish you the best on your journey and if yo ever want to chat more - feel free t…

We have kidsbut 3 are out of the house and we won’t need a parenting plan - it's her child from previous marriage - she is a junior in HS.

Good question and one that I have thought a lot about. She said she wants to stay in it and I am fine with being bought out and living somewhere else.
