The biggest piece of relationship advice I’ve ever received is “If you can’t 100% accept who your partner is today, you have no business being together”. So many people ignore or think unwanted behaviors or character traits of their partner will go away. Or think they’ll be able to live with it. The fact of the matter is we should assume that our partners will never change. And if something about them isn’t sitting right with you then walk away before marriage. I think everyone should go through…

Yes! Or go to counseling and when they advise you not to get married do it anyway!

My advice is to wait till your 30s. I think sometimes people change in their 20s as they get into adulthood. Once you get to that point take things slow. Do not rush into anything and listen to your own intuition as well as family and friends. If something feels off don’t ignore it. If this person passes that check and things get serious discuss anything and everything that’s important to you personally and what you would think you might want in a marriage. Do not get married without doing pre m…

Most people on this sub are probably negative towards reconciliation for whatever reason. But my advice to you would be to take ownership of your mistakes which it sounds like you have and work on yourself. If you’re able try to demonstrate to your wife that you’ve changed. Also look at your marriage like you just met and you’re having to win her heart all over again. However be prepared for the fact that she may not want to reconcile. If she doesn’t don’t stop working on you and give yourself t…

Wow that really hit me. I was advised not to date but kind of shrugged it off because of loneliness. But I can definitely see what you’re saying in that I’ll ignore red flags.

I’ve definitely been trying to grow from it. That is one positive of the situation is as a person I feel I shook off some negative habits.

I think getting past the anniversary without realizing is a great indicator. I’m definitely not there yet.

I think a lot of how you feel depends on the situation. The grief can be different. Maybe grief over wasting time with someone who was abusive or immoral. Or grief over losing at the time the love of your life. I feel what you said though. Initially I felt fine but a year later I feel like I’m missing her more.

I honestly feel like this will be me. I fully expected to be married to her the rest of my life and did love her. It’s hard to just move on and forget.

I thought after a year I would be over it but I find myself not at that place.

Sorry you’re having to go through this twice. I agree that it’s easier for whoever initiates. I feel like she’s gone ahead with her life and I can’t let go 100%. Plus it’s making it hard for me to think about being in a committed relationship with someone else.

Have you dated anyone yourself? I feel like since dating I’ve thought about her more.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
