The SAT is an examination which is taken in order to gain entry to certain colleges. It is a tool whose use is for college. The students, after learning about how to take it, then ask me about college. Your example is a straw man: algebra is not itself a direct key leading to English in the same way that the SAT is a direct key leading to college.

I disagree from anecdotal evidence. People in my high school were having sex constantly and no one ever mentioned rape. But in colleges there are news stories on it all the time.
