You're not getting in your own way, you're grieving, and grief doesn't care that the thing you lost was a marriage instead of a person dying. It's normal to keep replaying what was for a while. A decent starting point is stop trying to force yourself to feel differently and instead just build small new routines, gym time, a hobby, anything that's yours alone now

What you're describing sounds less like a hope problem and more like grief that hasn't had room to actually move yet, 40 with a marriage ending isn't something you're supposed to be over quickly. The hobbies and bar scene advice fails a lot of guys because it skips straight to rebuilding before the loss is even processed. Might be worth finding a therapist who specifically works with divorce, not general talk therapy
