Glad you found your way out. TRP is basically a cult that indoctrinates its members.

I was raised Mormon too and overcoming the sex-negative teachings I got from it took me years. I would recommend consuming a lot of media from sex educators - I watched a whole lot of Dr. Lindsay Doe's Sex+ videos on YouTube, for example. She's passionate about the topics of sex and sexuality and it's basically her whole career. In addition, Mormonism teaches that men and women are very distinct and different from each other. But I've learned that they have much more in common than I was led to …

My opinion is that it's much easier to just ignore them and live a good life without them. Lots of strangers on the internet have dumb ideas but you don't have time to debate all of them. Debating TRP people is difficult because often TRP is part of their core beliefs and how they define themselves. It's about as tough as convincing a Christian to stop being Christian or a Muslim to stop being Muslim.

Shares common interests Fun to talk with Interested in me romantically Responsible - can be independent if she needs to Smart

No, my point was that someone who is good relationship material for somebody else might not be good relationship material for me. If someone else is really into sports or athletics, they should probably find a partner who likes that stuff too, but I should be more focused on finding a partner who shares my interests.

Right, and every car that runs can potentially get me to where I want to go, but that metaphor doesn't extend to people, because not every person can give me what I want in a romantic relationship. Most people can't, in fact.

If someone likes sports, it doesn't bother me. So if we had lots of common interests and she liked sports, fine, but if the common interests weren't there, there wouldn't be much point for me to pursue a romantic relationship.

I don't always agree with the "market value" part of both SMV and RMV, because not everyone is in the same big market for relationships or sex. People often want to find a partner who has common interests and a common worldview with them. Even if someone has a high SMV or RMV or whatever, if they don't have much in common with someone, they wouldn't make a good partner for them. For example, I'm not really into sports, so someone who cares a lot about sports is not that interesting to me romanti…

I feel like if someone sees me as dangerous or as a sexual predator, then I have failed at being their friend. I wish we lived in a society where people didn't need to worry about sexual predators. Women are actually terrible at effectively articulating what their underlying motivations are. This is a dogma. I don't know how to argue against this in a way that will be productive, because it seems like you believe it with all your heart. Perhaps all we have accomplished through this discussion is…

I think it's okay for either men or women to be initiators when it comes to sexual or other physical closeness. And sure, men are more often initiators. But I don't equate being the initiator of a romantic encounter to being "sexually predatory and dangerous." I think if someone is coming across that way, they're doing it wrong, because they're not properly respecting boundaries. If trying to get laid is your thing, I think you can seek it out without having people see you as a threat. But, geez…

Okay, you convinced me. RP is right about everything ever. Just kidding. The guys who aren't active initiators, who go out and seize the miment, reeeeeeally don't get laid that often. As if getting laid is the only important goal. The chicks LIKE the sexually aggressive males. Before I made any physical advances on the woman I've been dating recently, I made sure to talk to her about what she was comfortable with, and we didn't do anything physical together unless we were both okay with it. I wa…

I don't think that characterizing men as sexual aggressors is always accurate, though. Women and men can both be passive sometimes and aggressive at other times. My main point was that I don't think men need to be viewed as predatory and dangerous.

Abortion is a complex issue, and I think it's silly to reduce it to single statement reinforced by insults. The feminists that I know don't all agree when it comes to abortion.

This is assuming that casual sex is something that all men want. That's not really what I'm interested in, and I have plenty of female friends who are more interested in casual sex than I am. I would agree that pornography sends misleading messages about what women want, though.

Umm, I still think it's demeaning to men to say that they can't control themselves. Men can control themselves.

I don't want all of my interactions with women to be focused on getting dates. And I wasn't trying to give advice about how to pick up women - I was sharing my experience about making friends.

Like partint said, my goal was not to get dates by being a male feminist. My goals were to learn about feminist issues and also learn how to better socialize with people. The woman I've been dating the most recently thinks feminism is cool and all, but we connected more because we have similar views on religion and we've known each other for a while.

So here's something that challenges OP's views. I consider myself a male feminist. I grew up in a conservative religion where I didn't learn a whole lot about socializing with women and girls as a kid and a as a teenager. But there were two events that made me feel much more confident around women and comfortable talking to them. One, serving a proselyting mission for my church, because I was able to talk to everyone, male and female, without worrying about anybody's SMV or whether I was flirtin…
