The book & series is based on a speculative fictitious autocratic dystopian world. IMO there is nothing moral about The Republic of Gilead, only the outward appearance of a moral, religious autocracy, but in reality it's even more corrupt than the society it overthrew.

Just sit him down and try to explain to him how these little anecdotes make you feel. He can't fix the problem if he doesn't know there is one. I'm almost certain he's not doing it to be hurtful.

Have you expressed any of this to him?

Yes. 50's/60's TV glamorizes the SAHM lifestyle making it look like a life of leisure. It is in fact a lot of hard work and with small children it is exhausting more than it is not. Unlike a 9-5 where you get to leave the house and be away from the kids and have adult conversations, a SAHM is always at work 24/7/365 with little people whose communication skills suck at best. There is no clocking out and leaving work at work.

Perhaps I'm not understanding exactly what you're asking. On face value it seems to imply that there is such a thing, which there is not. Would you mind clarifying your question a bit more for me?

So this woman has an unstable marriage and you're confiding all of your negative emotions regarding your relationship to her? Sounds legit. Stop feeding this woman. She's obviously looking to deflect and avoid having to deal with her own relationship by getting hyper-involved in yours. Any and all information you give her should be only positive and generic from now on. Kindly and politely tell her you don't wish to elaborate further if she pushes for more juicy info. If she persists, then expla…

Don't give men what you "think" they want. Instead of keeping your mouth shut, you need to work on your communication skills. Men are not mind readers and you shouldn't try to be one either. If you don't know what a man wants or needs, you need to learn how to communicate with him in his language to ascertain those needs and desires. Conversely you need to be able to convey to him in his language what your needs and desires are. If you're just going through a relationship with your head down and…

I think you are romanticizing the 50's TV portrayal of a stay-at-home mother and wife. Real life isn't like that. It's an up-at-dawn, thankless, exhausting rat race that'll make you wish you had a 9-5 to escape to. I've found that most men want to be wanted rather than needed. Looking for a man to take care of you is going to cause you to settle and you're going to be highly disappointed with the results. Marriage is a partnership in which you take care of each other. What happens if he loses hi…

I read your edit and it sounds like you need to move on and value yourself more highly than to settle. (See my previous reply) Stop making sacrifices for people who don't deserve them and who aren't willing to do the same for you. Plenty of good men who'll treat you like gold. You might have to kiss a lot of toads to find your prince but if you hold fast to what you know you deserve you'll be in a better position to discern. Never stay in a bad relationship out of fear of being alone.

If I had chosen to not date my husband based on his age, I would have missed out on the love of my life and he on his. He's a grumpy old man trapped in a younger man's body and I love that about him. He is a great provider for our family and a great father to our son and stepfather to my daughter. He's also a fantastic son in law to my parents as I'm an only child and they're not spring chickens anymore and he takes wonderful care of them and helps them with any manual labor they need around the…

Also add to that, women tend to outlive men. I've always been attracted to younger guys. Maybe not quite the gap between my husband and I, but I've always looked at least a decade behind my chronological age and perhaps I'm also immature for my age. My husband was always attracted to older women considering women in his age group to generally lack scruples and play too many games. He wanted someone who had their stuff together and wanted him rather than needed him.

I'm in the same boat. I pretty much lost all but my 1 friend (my daughter's godfather) since I married my husband. I wish there was something like a regional monthly RPW dinner where we could get together and converse with like-minded women.

This isn't about not offending the offenders. This is about your security and safety. They obviously have no concern for your feelings so don't worry about hurting theirs. It's ok to assert yourself if someone is making you uncomfortable. Why do you care what a creep thinks of you? If you're declining any sort of offer just say "No, thank you." If they persist, find someplace safe and notify the authorities. If you're being harassed, then ask the guy "Would you mind not staring so that I can in …

I am 40. My husband is 28. We met at renaissance festival. We were both huge "rennies" who have an absolute trove of mutual acquaintances and yet somehow through all the years we had never met before that day. It was the last day if faire and he didn't have a ride home. Come to find out he lived directly on my way home so I gave the really cute guy who gives good hug a ride home. He called me the next day to thank me and we made plans to go out that night. We ended up spending 7 out of the next …
