Same age and same feeling. But you know what? My mom spent over 50 years pulling all the weight in her marriage. As a young woman, my mom couldn’t have a credit card or bank account in her own name. I have many accounts in my name, including a mortgage. You and I have a remarkable and unprecedented gift, being single and independent with decades left in life. Let’s not waste it.

This is an interesting answer to me, because I was the same about 15 years ago. Not anymore though, because I’ve found men with “pedigree” tend not to have emotional centers/are arrogant, and do not have practical skills beyond book-learning. I’d be happy to meet a single man to prove me wrong that went to a good school though!

I’m 41 and unsure that I’ve ever come across a single HVM. I’m conventionally attractive, fit, kind, loyal, a successful business owner, home owner, vacation home owner, etc. I have a couple friends married to HVM, but they are not American. I’d be drawn to a kind, honest, and loyal man that: 1). valued physical fitness, 2). had his own hobbies (he should be able to entertain himself, and I don’t mean with video games), 3). was motivated to be an equal partner in administering our life together,…

YES. “You dumped him because he couldn’t cook/clean?” “No, I dumped him because the fact that he doesn’t know HOW to maintain a home is a flag that he considers those women’s tasks, and I’m not being a mommy/bangmaid for ANY man.”

So gross. I dated a nice boy in high school that was super into his trumpet. He went on to be a professional musician. But his LV father never encouraged his son; dad was only disappointed/pissed that son didn’t play basketball. 😒

My last boyfriend was like this. When we first started dating, he stepped up his cleaning efforts after a couple pointed remarks from me. Every subsequent disagreement, he threw that back in my face. “Well, I’ve been cleaning more and I guess you haven’t noticed that/don’t really care about that after all.” Seething resentment that I “made” him maintain his own home before I’d spend more time there. Sir. Scrubbing your own toilet on occasion is not a gift to me.

My dad is a lifelong LVM and I must admit he has become a HVM to my mom. They have been married over 50 years and he treated her like a houseservant for at least 80% of that time. She still worked outside the home and earned the same as him, but then had her second shift at home while he relaxed. 15 years ago my mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. My dad was in denial about it for years. He talked about leaving her as her symptoms became more and more difficult to manage. I think he would have e…

My dad and younger brothers are like this. Presumably the brothers picked it up from our dad. They even neg my opinions on things that are the subject of MY professional expertise. For example, my dad likes to broach real estate topics with me and then neg my opinion. He is a retired teacher. I buy and develop property for one of the largest real estate companies on the planet. But sure, dad, your opinion is worth more than mine. 🤷‍♀️ I’m finally learning to just not engage.

I love swing dancing. I get to connect in a very human way with lots of people, terrific exercise, enjoy the music, and travel if I’d like to for events. Most of the dancers trend 10+ years younger than me, so I don’t have to deal with the leads (mostly men) hitting on me at all. It’s just fun and social.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
