I see intersectionality as 2 contradictory ideas. One is trivial true (and therefore useless) and the other is demonstrably false (yet popular). The first is that the intersection of different identities can lead to unique or exacerbated issues compared to just the sum of the parts. The latter idea is that more oppressed identities = more oppressed. Period. Then there is all the standpoint theory and all of that nonsense which builds off of that assumption.

Well I agree that arguing about which is worse is generally a waste of time and won't accomplish much. Again, I'm not a lawyer but one sticking point did stick out to me on one point of failure. Clopper mentioned that the theater he worked at does not allow nudity, but that it was implied through his ads and from his employer and others involved at Harvard that it was allowed. It's not just feminists. This is a more mainstream position than even feminism is (I'm aware a minority identify as feminist, but most feminist beliefs). Circumcision is so normalized in the US and Canada that it's hard for men and boys (victims) and parents and doctors (perpetrators) to acknowledge the harm. It's psychologically difficult to do so. This is just one of many mechanisms to downplay the severity of the problem

not sure. Just wanted to share that this kind of thing is known to come from White Ribbon, and I guess I would add that the in-person rhetoric and resources were exactly as you'd expect. Look up the "draw the line" campaign and just about anything white ribbon publishes for an example of similar attitudes towards violence (especially domestic violence) being exclusively male perpetrators and female victims

I agree however in some ways it is simply easier to exclude a group that is 80 % not usable. The US military does this for many groups, some of which I think are very silly just for the convenience (cost) of it. It's not like they're low on able-bodied men throwing themselves at it. In the last year or two news came out about a birth control study for men involving injections (I believe it was mostly reversible) which lead to increased suicide risk and was pulled for ethical reasons. The best thing you can do for yourself and any "viewers" to the conversation (in public, over facebook, twitter, etc.) is to be as honest and straight-forward as possible. Make as few claims as possible and focus on finding common ground. Continue to define your position/argument as you have. When others see how childish they are, it will jar them if they agree with their viewpoint and they will be forced to reevaluate the actual position. At least, that's helped me

As long as there is a burden of proof both ways I'm totally fine with it. I don't think anyone is advocating for "no conviction of alleged rapist = falsely accused therefore punishment of accuser" which is pretty extreme. There is a huge grey area in the middle where neither party is guilty
