True, I was kind of speaking against the "men's lives don't matter as much" part. It's partly because of that, but mostly because boobs are sexy.

Feel free to look through the other comment chains for it. Proving my assertions is a big step up in effort from just writing them, and I don't feel like spending that effort, especially when I've already done so.

He literally called into question their mental ability to function in the environment.

That quote doesn't exist, because he didn't say anything of the sort. In the current environment. Apparently any recognition of any kind of biological difference between men and women = blatant sexism now. This study that he cited describes how testosterone levels can modify social interactions and rewards. It's an interesting read but it does seem to support his hypothesis about why men are so much in the majority of leadership. He even states that institutional sexism exists and that it needs …

Was it relevant? I don't know, in my opinion it didn't feel as out of place as a lot of people are saying. Was it offensive? No, not directly, and not without some sort of bias affecting people's reaction to it. The question of whether it was offensive relies on whether it was relevant. It's a question of relevant information vs. pointed information(or information as a resource vs. information as a weapon). The relevancy of it is paramount and, in my opinion, it was not relevant to the memo at a…

He's not saying they're better or worse, he's saying they are more inclined not to go into engineering fields partly due to biological differences, but not exclusively. He is saying they are worse in the current environment. I would like to make it clear that I agree with a lot of the things he said, but that some of the points he involved and some of his presentation suggest to me he is sexist. Thus why diversity "quotas" may not make sense because of these documented differences between men an…

No, I'm saying he's probably sexist because he injected those stats where they had no relation. You could make this same nonsensical "circle argument" of any statement ever. I hit a double because I made it to second because I hit a double because I made it to second... It's not a valid counterargument to anything in the slightest.

You obviously don't understand how averages work. Huh, well I guess I should go back and tell my professors I didn't deserve my great marks in all of those stats classes I had. Thanks for letting me know. Thus if the average woman is less interested in tech than the average man then you are naturally likely to see less women in tech. This does not mean that the women who are in tech are any worse at the actual quality of their work. I agree, assuming an equal selection process. My point through …

I haven't said he's sexist. His memo suggests that he is.
/r/MensRights09/08/17 10:42 PM

He didnt say "Women are bad at tech." He said, here are reasons why women may actually not actually be underrepresented at <50%. He did say women are worse at tech than men. I've quoted that part in another reply chain. My problem isn't whether women are worse or better or the same at tech as men. My point is that bringing it up in an unrelated manner(especially in a workplace context, and in the manner it was brought up) suggests sexism, in a similar manner to racists who always bring up racial…

Cast aspersions on the ability of women to do software engineering. What are you talking about? There is obviously overlap, but whether or not women are better or worse at SE is irrelevant to the purpose of discussing diversity courses.

Good job intentionally missing the analogy.
/r/MensRights09/08/17 10:19 PM

I am aware what he is saying. It is irrelevant to the point of the memo. Since it is irrelevant, and is only included to cast aspersions it appears to be rooted in sexism. Somewhat similar to how people bring up racial crime statistics where they aren't relevant in order to be racist. I have seen the full memo, but I can't find it again. For how much people are talking about it the memo does not seem to get linked much.

He's already lost his job, so it doesn't matter. The source is: Openness directed towards feelings and aesthetics rather than ideas. Women generally also have a stronger interest in people rather than things, relative to men (also interpreted as empathizing vs. systemizing). These two differences in part explain why women relatively prefer jobs in social or artistic areas. More men may like coding because it requires systemizing and even within SWEs, comparatively more women work on front end, w…

He stated numerous times the caveat that everything he talked about was averages within the two population groups and that these averages should in no way shape or form be used when looking at specific individuals. He even went so far as to make a pretty good visual example of why this is and explained why it is bad to make this assumption and why that is not what he's doing here. If he says the average woman is worse than the average man, that is saying women are worse. It would be fine if it w…

I did read it, and the memo was not about how women shouldn't be in tech. It was a rebuttal to the claim that the gender imbalance of women in tech is because of systemic sexism. Instead, the memo claims, it's largely based on natural, biological differences in interest and personality types between the general male and female populations. The memo had 3 sections: Gender diversity efforts at Google are ineffective Women are worse at tech Conservative opinions can't be safely voiced He got fired …

It's some form of sexual misconduct. If you give consent under a specific set of circumstances and your partner violates that, then they have violated your consent. As long as they made their specific requirements clear then you have performed some form of sexual misconduct.

Well, feminism has the idea of intersectionality, which was to include everyone. There's valid complaints that feminism is still too focused on white women. However, feminism never was and probably never will be for men, I agree. Egalitarian has been somewhat poisoned for a lot of women, too, though. Plenty of men on the internet spew woman-hating shit and when they get called misogynistic they back up to the "I'm just saying it as it is, I'm egalitarian" excuse, which is clearly false. I'm just…

It's a problem of perception and branding, really. People have tried to tell me that feminism is the movement for Men's Rights and the answer from me, clearly, is a "fuck no." Similarly, the well has been somewhat poisoned by the crazier feminists for actual feminism. The problem is that if they rebranded feminism to something else the crazies would just follow and poison that label too. How do they avoid this?
/r/PussyPassDenied12/02/17 04:32 PM

Exactly. My belief is that $3000 dollars spent on a scholarship could be much more wisely spent on getting children interested in STEM as an option earlier in life. People are treating the symptom, not the disease. I think this isn't helped by the fact that most teachers are not trained in STEM and don't know shit about it, so they don't recommend it other than "I hear it pays well." It seems like most people that I know in STEM had relatives in STEM that encouraged them to go into it.

Your numbers are over 10 years vs. 4 years, though, so those percentage numbers aren't exactly fair. I know that's not your fault, but I would be interested to see what the drop-off rate is particularly soon after graduation. And yeah, women are the majority, but streams or fields can be pretty insular. When I did my Engineering degree I pretty much didn't talk to anyone outside of Engineering for most of my time there. So while I wouldn't be surprised to see a similar effect in other fields, I …

Well, I feel that egalitarianism is the widespread idea but that most people(or at least most women) call it feminism, even though feminism is only one side of the equation, so I agree with you somewhat. It gets confusing because there's multiple meanings for feminism - the definition, the movement, the academic field of study, and definitely more. People just seem to pick whatever definition fits their argument at the current time.

I've seen those numbers before. Do you know if they're the same for men in opposing fields? And I've actually read perspectives on it from women who went though that and it was pretty eye opening. There still seems to be an undercurrent of some latent misogyny in those fields. I don't know whether or not that is true for Nursing et al

In this day and age feminism is widely accepted. It's a huge group of people. Most of them don't bother talking about it because it's not something they feel they have to argue for often. The people you'll hear talking about it the most are those who are more active or militant about it than the average feminist by quite a lot, and I would not be surprised to see a disproportionate amount of man-haters amongst militant feminists. However, you are improperly generalizing from that subgroup to the…

You are correct, I don't think that. I think that the women who were going into Engineering would have gone anyway, and the women who were not going into Engineering would not have gone anyway, whether there were grants or scholarships or not. I also think that women who go into Engineering against societal expectations and gender norms have passed a fairly strong selector, which would make the average female Engineering student more dedicated to the idea than the average male Engineering studen…

But if you redefine a group to only include the negative people of that group, then obviously your redefined group is going to be negative. If I have a group of MnMs of various colours and I redefine MnMs to be only yellow, I shouldn't be surprised when I start only getting yellow MnMs and a collection of "coloured chocolate obloids" in my box of MnMs.

To be fair, when I went to school for Engineering the average woman was better than the average man. Maybe it has something to do with selection or small sample size. There were only 6 women and 130 men but 3 of the girls were in the top 10 of the class, and the other 3 were scattered in the upper 50%.

Could that be tied into men being more willing to take risks?
/r/MensRights28/12/16 10:15 PM

Sure, but when boys are pushed more heavily into one field than girls, it's not really surprising when that field becomes more male-dominated. Also, what is the status of steroids nowadays? When I was growing up I got brainwashed that they are dangerous but I've yet to bother to check up whether that was true or not.

Honestly, I think it's because you get started on being a nerd generally at a young age. My brothers and I are all nerds, and we all got into it from our uncles. They gave us sci fi books, computer game discs, etc. We naturally grew our interest from there. My sister got treated much differently. She was forced by my mom to dress up, to do different chores, etc. My mom tried to curb how tomboyish she was. This was only in my family. I'm not talking about marital rape, and yes the grey area still exists. You can't make it not exist just by denying it.

It does. The group is why they had that "enthusiastic consent" campaign earlier. They were trying to clear up the grey areas involving consent.

Yup, they did that to our high school in the same area, as well. It phased out year-by-year, so that if you entered high school when skirts were allowed you were allowed to wear them the whole time and vice versa. Haha, this is the same problem I had 2 months ago. Back then I even made a few posts about it asking for advice online and didn't really get anything that was a breakthrough. From what I read it seems like the single biggest flaw a man can have. You can be ugly, fat, dumb, but short is a deal breaker. What the hell have you been reading? I can almost guarantee you that you think this because you are short. If you were ugly you would say that's the deal breaker, same with dumb and fat. You're trying to give yourself excuses. People who honestly believe that, people who delude themselves they believe that, or people who want to delude others into thinking they belong to the previous 2 categories. It does seem a bit unusual to me, too. However, every person thinks differently, and I can certainly empathize with those who are busy actively trying to find people for more than just transitory relationships. Check out your university's gym for things they offer. Because they're offered by the university for the students they're often way cheaper and better than alternatives. For example, at my school $10/month gets you access to their athletics training. Hmm, we see it somewhat differently then, at least in categorization. While all of the stuff in here is pickup-related I see a lot of it as not actual pickup. For example, there was a post in here about body hair earlier. Was it a useful post? For sure, I learned from it. Is it pickup? Ehhhh, kinda. Does that type of post belong here? Maybe. In my opinion those posts are useful in their own way, and there doesn't seem to be another place for them. Anyway, please don't think I'm criticizing the m…

You've heard "We Are Young" I'm guessing? If not, you definitely should check that out. It's a pretty damn good song. If you have... they're just not for you. About the music snobbery, I know what you mean. I voluntarily watched "Tik Tok" yesterday. Teenaged snobbish me would have shot me. There are some bands, like Maroon 5, where everyone either likes it or tolerates it, though, so definitely nothing to be embarrassed about haha. What is your main genre of music? Based off of the snobbishness …

Honestly, this subreddit seems to be only 1/2 - 1/4 about pickup any more. Part of it is the reddit general community filtering in and semi-changing the purpose of the subreddit from pickup to a form of guy's sex advice. Personally, I prefer it this way because I find a lot of the PU things are bullshit, and the rest is way over my head, but I can see why the old school guys miss that. Maybe they could make another subreddit to call their own or something? It seems unlikely this one will go back…

Ah, we can agree on most of that. However, that stuff is only pretty annoying. Overall it doesn't make it godawful, just less than average. Maybe the main problem you have with it is that it's popular despite sounding less than stellar?

By complimenting her on something specific it becomes a compliment that sticks out in her head because it isn't generic For example, a girl I was talking to had painted her nails purple. I thought that was a pretty cool colour and told her. She really loved that because she said she almost never paints them, picked a risky colour that time, etc.

As many other here have said many times in the past, you can't really use it to build attraction. Primarily it should probably be used for setting up meetings IRL, which can actually build attraction. You only risk fucking things up online.

Actually, not only am I the same race as Tom Hardy(English/British) but I look quite a lot like him facially. My genes are weird, though. My 2 brothers are also going bald/are pretty bald, but neither have much body hair, neither can grow good facial hair. I have tons of chest hair, but no dice on the facial hair, either. Plus, I have a firm chin, and I'm in software engineering in university, so facial hair and a shaved head is literally what 90% of the people have/will have haha. Anyway, thank…

Haha, yeah, I used to love my hair, too. Especially in the summer it would bleach at the temples(ironically, what I'm losing first) and it had pretty sweet texture. I like your plan. I'm just gonna shave the fucker in a few years. Hopefully a Vin Diesel-ish look will work. Bane seems a bit out of my league haha.

I stutter a tiny bit too and, while it's mildly embarrassing it's not too bad. You've got to remember that people, in general, aren't going to really look down on you for it. It may seem like they do to you, but they really don't. My grandpa has a much worse stutter and no one cares about it. It's just an aspect of him. I don't know if you've done any training to help with it, but if not then just simply try to talk slower and more deliberately... other than that, just realize it's annoying, but…

I do agree about not being at her beck and call, but I think that is totally different than intentionally flaking on girls as tactic. Right, but the basic point is showing the women you won't let them walk over you. In this case it's not done well. By "solid underlying reasoning" I was referring to the basic point. I would like to clarify, I am not supporting the OP's point itself. What I am saying is that it follow that basic point, which is a good thing to have happen. However, it's misapplied…

While I agree with you that this is the wrong way to go about it, the point was that you can't simply be at her beck and call. It's a bad idea to go out of your way to be rude, but it's a bad idea to be a "nice guy" and be her bitch, as well. EDIT: Where the fuck did I say I was pre-judging her? You're pre-judging me!

It was because I knew her that I was able to do it. I had only hung out with her a few times the year before(and with friends then so I got blocked) and noticed that after a couple of meetings. I also talked to her on FB over the summer a bit, and noticed it a bit there, too. If you are more observant than me you'll notice it quicker, so you MIGHT be able to do it during the first meeting. Another important thing to note is that I knew she was attracted to me(playing with hair, compliance, etc.)…

Yep, I did this a month or two ago. I had this one thing going with a girl(Girl A) already. I was hanging out at my friends house and a girl(Girl B) I had flirted with last year was there. During conversation the thing I had going with the other girl came up. A normal person would try to minimize that or something. I didn't hide it. A few days later I texted Girl B to hang out and we took a nice hike through some woods. I built up the kino the whole time(helping her down from logs, leading her, …

I don't see how this is possible. I live in a relatively unexpensive place(for Canada), saved up quite a bit in preparation for university, worked summer jobs, and I still won't be able to afford to live on my own while paying tuition without a loan. Can you explain to me how you did it? I'm honestly curious, because I'd love to not be living at home any more.

I see. Well, congrats, but hopefully you realize that your situation is really a terrible example for most of the people on this subreddit then.

Really? That's kind of incredible. Where I live and go tuition is 10k/year, rent is 400/month = 3200/year. Adds up to 13200/year. Minimum wage full time summer job pays around 6 k IIRC. Unless you saved up a LOT of money beforehand I don't see how it works. If you do get a significantly higher wage then you can afford it, but most university students aren't going to be able to, at least until 3rd year.

I noticed this over the summer. I thought (for some ridiculous reason) that I was the only one who fucked stuff up badly. I was really self-conscious whenever I did, but then I realized people have "Hey, what's up?" "Good, you?" "Not much." type conversations surprisingly frequently.

Friendliness is what I'd rate highest. I'd follow that with wisdom. In behind that is hard work. Then we have charisma. I agree that intelligence is more important than athleticism nowadays, but I would rather have 5/10 intelligence and athleticism than 10/10 intelligence and 0/10 athleticism.

I used to do that until I saw this post: http://postmasculine.com/how-to-give-good-advice and then I realized what was actually happening most of the time. I honestly did not realize up until then that I was being rude about it. I can see the point you're trying to make, but at this point I'm happier letting someone retain an inaccurate thought than correct them and ruin our relationship.

Uhm, cool. Why does it matter how smart you are, again? You'll find a lot of people used to be in the same situation as you. I was evaluated in the 94th percentile when I was 13. You bet your ass I used that to stress how smart I am/was. But it didn't matter. Intelligence is ultimately unimportant.

I used to work at a Salvation Army which was semi-similar. I helped the people donate their stuff(i.e grab the stuff from their vans/cars, help lift furniture, etc.) and got a lot of talking done during that. However, I suppose yours is mainly talking to new people every time, whereas I had a lot of regulars and talked to the other workers a lot.
