So I discussed that with my friends. Had the positions been reversed there would be such a Tremendous uproar for the firing of the male equivalent of Katy Perry. But also there's a key difference in this case. The guy said after the fact that it was OK. He didn't mind that Katy kissed him. He accepted that things didn't go his way and he had a "bad" experience and moved on.

You're right it's a quite a heavy punishment for a first time offender and will ruin his life. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it, because on one hand it's not as innocent as it was made out to be but it's also not as serious as pedo charge or rape case.
