I would never try to argue that women and men are "equal" in every respect. It's plain to see that men and women are different physically and, well the jury's out as far as I can tell but potential psychologically too. However, I think they should be treated equally as a "base" so that we all have equal opportunities. Even so you will end up with more men in physical jobs because generally they are better suited, etc etc. Women should still be allowed to do them, however! If they're capable, the…

Well sure it's ok to let people know they're out of line. This is very different to treating people like children who don't know better and need to be educated.

It's one thing I just don't get about TRP, why can't they just treat both men and women like people? In my experience and the experience of those I know, this works just fine.

This is slightly unrelated, but I'm interested in TRP's interpretation of stoicism. Are we talking just the common usage of the word, or the historical philosophical one? If the latter, what elements of stoicism do TRP use, and how? Sorry if that's a big ask, ahah.

What man in his early 20's is looking for a long term committed relationship? ...oh, I get it. You're a sexual weirdo, that's why you believe this nonsense. What? Because I've been with men or because I have a sexual history that doesn't agree with your mindset?

You get to have no sex life until girls are done riding the cock carousel and want to settle down. ... Right. Except I have a pretty ordinary sex life. I don't have any particular interest in one night stands, but I've had my share of girlfriends and I have a regular FwB situation. Just respecting people as people doesn't stop them having sex with you, unfortunately for your argument. Why would any man choose to be decent and responsible when the only reward for being decent and responsible is g…

Yeah of course, but why should I be the more sexually experienced one? If my partner is then great, I'll learn more and teach less. If I am? Teach more, learn less. I don't have to be the most experienced, and I don't have to have my partner's entire sexual development happen under my watch. It's nowt to do with pills, I'm just not that bothered.

No one I have to live up to? Hahaha, so if I have an inexperienced partner I can get away with being shitty? Why would I want that? This is just such a pathetic way to look at things. And no, it's nothing to do with "teach[ing] her less", it's more to do with she will KNOW more. Things I might not have been able to teach, things I can learn.

Right, let's put it into a different context. My girlfriend is a virgin, ok? She's never been with anyone before me. Do I want to imagine some other dude porking her? NO. No I do not. While I don't want to imagine that, I am OK with it having happened in the past because it's perfectly fucking normal and on balance improves the relationship.

Look, I can see what you're trying to make me say, but it isn't true. I like that it happened, but thinking about it happening is unpleasant. Because imagining someone I am NOW with WITH SOMEONE ELSE is hard. Even if it had never happened it wouldn't be nice, it's got almost nothing to do with it having happened in the past.

This is the standard which we have to compromise with gentlemen. Why do you think you have to compromise with my standard? "There is no worse enemy than the one incapable of knowing why they may be wrong." -Wobbly Headed Bob Who are you painting as the "enemy" here? Me? So how does me being wrong affect you (if in fact I am)? If I'm not the enemy, then is it a potential partner with a large number of previous partners? Why them? Just pass them up if you don't like their history.

No, I'm not. It's not something I don't like at all, I am happy for my partners to have past experience, it makes for more considerate people and better sex. I just don't want to actually picture them with other people, that is it.

I... really don't understand what you're trying to say.

Well, similar to why people don't like cheating. Obviously in a monogamous relationship I'm hoping that they won't be with anyone but me. While these encounters have happened in the past, they are still them with someone else. So I don't let it worry about me, but I'd rather not picture it.

But if you agree it doesn't really reflect on them, why say no?

I don't think morals come into this, personally, it's just silly to assume things based on someone's sexual history with other people. Every relationship is totally different. I've been with people who've had almost no promiscuous history before me and cheated on me, and people who've had flings and cheated on previous partners but were completely committed to me. There are of course situations in which past behaviour can predict future behaviour, but unfortunately the one thing that is never co…

Thirty people before thirty really doesn't sound that much... In our 20s we are generally more promiscuous (as far as I know). That's like three people a year in that period. Three people a year! So three people a year could be one of two things, three relationships, or three on night stands. If it's one night stands, then really it doesn't say anything about a person's ability to commit, it just says they like sex with no meaning sometimes. Who doesn't? If it's relationships, granted these are …

have never wanted to know the ins and outs of their girlfriend previous sex life. Well, duh, no one wants to have to think about their SO banging loads of other people. I don't like talking about my partners' histories because I don't like thinking about it, not because it reflects on them as a person.

"Reprogramming female beliefs"!? Really? So the majority of people aren't attracted to something (presumably), well the majority of men also aren't this non-standard, otherwise it wouldn't be non-standard. Obviously, it'd be great if we could redefine masculinity entirely and replace some of the more awful aspects both in men and in women's desires, but this isn't accomplished by telling people what to like.
/r/PurplePillDebate04/10/14 01:56 PM

Well yeah, ok, some women don't want non-masculine men. That STILL doesn't mean there isn't a place for them in society. To put it similarly, some women like guys with a shitton of muscle best, some women don't. If a non-masculine guy finds he's attracted to a woman who doesn't like him back then tough luck, there are women who are attracted to other things.

This strikes me as similar to the ridiculous Tumblr style pseudo-feminist ideas you see around... Like white people can't discuss racism, cisgender people are demons who exist only to torment everyone else, etc etc. Just because you have a masculine boyfriend doesn't mean you don't want traditionally non-masculine people to have a place in society.

Don't worry, I've tried arousing women before, but I don't think there's a person alive can say they've tried arousing a representative sample.

I never insisted any such thing! Are you seriously suggesting that most porn storylines are half decent?

Women sexual attraction build more through aural sensations versus visual. Well, I'd rather not take your word for it, I'd like to see some hard evidence. I think women and men think of relationships differently. Trying to make an egalitarian claim on the relationship puts you in a difficult position in acting. Not exactly sure what you're getting at here, or how it relates to what I said.

How many women you know detail all of their masturbation routines to you? Plus, how much visual porn is actually directed at women?

As pointed out, this is more like why people cheat' but it makes some decent points. Wouldn't say they're that unknown or "unspoken". First thing that sounds off, "men are visual"... What? What is this, cosmo? After a quick look around, I can't find any actual evidence for this that isn't some crappy magazine (I.e, cosmo) other than this singe online trend analysis by some guy. 1) Temptation. No shit temptation is a reason, is this really unspoken? 2) Fear of hurt. I can't make much sense of thi…

Yeah, in some cases you might solve a problem without it happening, but you can't say why the problem arose if it didn't.

Hah, touché, no I didn't. The discussion is the fun part! However, I'd say it's quite silly to try and work out why something is happening before you know IF it is happening.

There is perhaps a correlation without causation. That's a small study, in one area. Personally me and most of my male friends are all 'nice guys' and have never had any issues finding moderately successful relationships at college age.

Even if 2 million isn't a lot to this Donald fellow, it's a lot to most people. Though she may or may not have had feelings for him, it's easy for people to assume that a young girl with a rich old man is just with him for his money, regardless of the truth. Personally, if it works for both parties, I don't see anything wrong with money being a part of a relationship. Wouldn't be for me, I don't think, I prefer love and all that hocus pocus, but different strokes for different folks. And I guess…

Lord that's a lot of TLAs. What's the reasoning behind more sexual partners = less ability to bond? In my own, admittedly somewhat limited, experience the opposite is true (for both men and women), people who have had few - no partners tend to be very clingy and end up damaging a relationship that way.

I like the sound of that. I've never been interested in the slightest in marriage, possibly because my parents never married each other or their current partners. Seems a relationship should be held together by trust rather than papers.

But that is true of anyone who's ever left a relationship for any reason. If that reason hadn't come along, I wouldn't be with you, I'd still be in that relationship. It's not very nice, but it's always going to be the way.
