Ally Fogg, writer and co-founder of the Men and Boys Coalition. Not on the internet much because he is actually out there doing real work for the cause, so often slips under the radar.

But women aren't more victimised. You've just said that men experience more violence. I am not violent but due to my gender other people see me as a target and are more likely to attack me. According to you that doesn't matter and other people, who are less likely to get attacked, should get more support.
/r/MensRights27/09/24 07:44 PM
22

So you're happy to ignore the majority of victims of violent crime, just because of their gender?
/r/MensRights27/09/24 07:19 PM
25

The imbalance of violence is that as a man I'm much more likely to experience it, while at the same time the government has a department for violence prevention which explicitly excludes me. That is one of the areas where women are more privileged.

We've now got shared parental leave, where the maternity leave can be shared with the other partner and the dad can get a proper amount of time just looking after them new kid. Unfortunately it's good some restrictions about being in certain types of employment and getting enough pay, but it's a good start. It was really difficult leaving my kids at home and going back to work, both times.

Agreed with all this. Combined with the 'women are wonderful' effect, it means there is an uphill battle to convince the wider public that these are real issues, and the MRAs who use this to push sexism and generalisations about feminism make the whole thing more difficult.

Sometimes people get raped without force being involved, just threats or coercion. I get that this could see some increase in false allegations, but it is a necessary update to the law if it required proof of force before.

The poster is literally about controlling men's behaviours, and it gets described as a women's issue. That's some mental gymnastics right there.

Ally Fogg is my favourite mens advocate, and a very level headed left wing mens activist. He co-founded the Men and Boys Coalition, writes articles for the guardian, and has a very active twitter. I only wish he was more well known.

I'm not the biggest fan of Geoff Norcott since he did that radio 4 show which was meant to show people from all over the political spectrum, and everyone on it was right wing. But I thought he did very well here. Ava started minimising problems that men experience, then Frances O'Grady started going on about completely unrelated issues in an attempt to discredit him. He dealt with it all very well and calmly pointed out that they were carrying out exactly what he had already described, where men…

If 'gender is a spectrum' is a philosophical statement, then so is 'gender is a binary'. Let's not privilege our own viewpoints above others. Secondly, I don't want this to sound dismissive but science is at its core an effort to prove and disprove statements. That's literally the basis of the scientific method. My formal logic is slightly rusty, but I'll try to break it down here. Hypothesis: gender is a spectrum Null hypothesis: gender is not a spectrum, but only exists as a binary choice If g…

Can you describe how I'm misusing the word? I've pointed out that the science isn't as simple as all the anti-trans people in here wish it was, and the only replies I'm getting say you can just ignore all those cases because they are rare. You know what else is rare? Any application of relativity to things that happen at human speed. So I guess we can just ignore relativity now? Pretty ironic that you've talked about the importance of gathering data just after you've said we can throw out data y…

Yes, if you want people to engage with a progressive idea like men's rights, it's incoherent to then start attacking a section of society because you feel it threatens your identity.
/r/MensRights31/07/22 12:54 PM

I mean if you just ignore everything that doesn't fit, you can basically believe what you want. Not interested in trying to explain anything to someone who obviously can't deal with reality tho.
/r/MensRights31/07/22 12:52 PM

Strongly disagree. The reality of people not being strictly divided into two sexes disproves any talking point which is based on that being common sense. If your discussion can't handle the truth, it's not a very good discussion.
/r/MensRights31/07/22 10:54 AM

Ok, the truth is that biologically gender is a spectrum and not a hard binary. Anyone saying otherwise is ignorant of the actual science.

Yeah that's one crazy leftist. That's not a majority. That's the important difference. I've had someone tell me I'm a communist because I don't want to abolish the welfare state. I don't use that to assume all people on the right are stupid.

The issues that affect men are systemic, and based on probabilities and numbers. Your life is personal, and shaped by your choices. I am concerned about the issues, but I am also much more in control of what goes on in my own life.

While trying to sound very clever your actual argument is pretty stupid. The relative number of politicians has nothing to do with whether one gender fits the stereotype, and thus finds it easier to get into the profession. The stereotype has been male for hundreds of years, and therefore men have found it easier. This also has nothing to do with an attempted reach towards describing life for men for the past 1000 years, and stumbling towards that shows you have failed to comprehend the guy you …

Yeah and he got absolutely ripped apart for it, which you would know if you had read it. Isn't it better to allow people to talk and argue against their position than just ignore them?

I subscribe to those two and r/menslib. I would see them on a spectrum (not that one) where mensrights is the most extreme in its anti-feminism, menslib the most pro-feminist, and this one is in the middle. I would still say I prefer menslib to either of the others.

/r/MensRights21/07/21 04:06 PM

Hmm. This seems like bait, but if you're serious then it doesn't help the cause of men's rights by posting silly arguments like above. If you make your point badly, it just means the other side can dismiss you without considering it.

This is called the fallacy of the excluded middle. It's entirely possible that he said he was going to kill him, even though he wasn't the one who actually did it. I've sure heard a lot more threats of death than I've seen murders. Why do you jump straight to her being a liar?

From the Nature retraction: "Simply being uncomfortable with the conclusions of a published paper, would and should not lead to retraction on this basis alone. If the research question is important, and the conclusions sound and valid, however controversial, there can be merit in sharing them with the research community so that a debate can ensue and a range of possible solutions be proposed. This is nothing to do with the woke brigade. This is science being done. The methods they used were not rigorous enough so the study was withdrawn. He didn't say the women on this course - that I would have understood. He said all women, which is the same kind of sexist assumption based on gender that feminists sometimes make.
/r/MensRights30/08/19 12:08 PM

That's a horrifically negative viewpoint to hold. Any woman?
/r/MensRights30/08/19 11:56 AM

I get what you're saying. In reality, the difference between the percentage of men who voted and the percentage of women who voted was small, because not many men were allowed. But the women were denied because they were women. The men were denied because they were landless and powerless. That was due to the class warfare enacted by the rulers, not due to sexism.
/r/MensRights18/05/19 02:18 PM

The first place to grant men a vote was Athens in 508BCE. The first country to grant women a vote was probably Sweden in about 1712. So 2220 years. Both conditional, but so are ours at the moment. See: criminal records and age.

Yep this one school doing an admittedly stupid presentation for one morning break in a rural region of Spain is definitely a big indicator of how the country as a whole is going.

Perceived injustices like not being able to vote, or not being able to own property, are certainly not made up.

This sure seems like a lot of outrage over one missed break. I had to sit through those for anti-drug propaganda, and for religious teachings and they had no impact on my choices. Is this the best we've got to be angry about today?

So we can both agree that there should ALSO be similar adverts calling out negative behaviour by women and showing other women combating them?
/r/MensRights15/01/19 04:52 PM

I don't entirely agree with the op, but your point is more bollocks. You're saying that because there are unaddressed problems with women and the harms they carry out, we shouldn't be focusing on men and the positive steps they can take. The same argument can be used to shout down any progressive statement, and is the basis of the crabs in a bucket phenomenon - noone escapes, because you all get pulled down by the ones still in the bucket. Also claiming that pointing out whataboutism is itself w…

But it shows men behaving positively in the advert? I can see you are just focusing on the men who are behaving negatively, but they are being stopped by other men who are doing good. And not because they have a role model, it's because they have decided to stop allowing this behaviour from others.

"What is whataboutism Alex"
/r/MensRights15/01/19 03:51 PM

I read one of the threads on here on the bus before watching the video. I have no idea where the outrage is coming from. There are some men who behave badly, and this is encouraging us to call them out. It contains positive role models to look up to who do this, and are men. It shows men deciding what they will not put up with and acting against it. What is the problem here? Why does this deserve hatred and a boycott of the entire company? Is it just anger in general about metoo?
/r/MensRights15/01/19 03:18 PM

It obviously doesn't represent the majority on that sub if it was ten hours old and only had three upvotes. Let's not scrape the bottom of the barrel for outrage posts.

Once again from my first comment, about the MensLib moderation: I don't agree with that stance, but that is how it is policed. I get that you've got an argument with it. I also don't agree with it. Learn to read.
/r/MensRights23/10/18 09:46 AM
2

Not even close. The start of this chain (which you can go back to read by the way) was you saying something about how MensLib is moderated. That statement wasn't true, so I pointed out is wasn't true. Then you started complaining about feminists for some reason.
/r/MensRights23/10/18 07:21 AM

I actually agreed with you there - you can tell by the use of the word 'also'. I get you want to be outraged, but you're arguing against something I didn't say.

A clitoridectomy also makes it difficult to urinate, since it is often performed in a non-surgical way that creates scar tissue around the urethra. I'm glad we agree they are not the same?
/r/MensRights23/10/18 06:02 AM
1

I don't think you know what whataboutism is.
/r/MensRights23/10/18 05:49 AM
1

Because the equivalent to clitoridectomy isn't circumcision - it would be chopping off the entire glans, which doesn't happen. The two are both backward practices, and both should be stopped, but the physical impact is not the same.
/r/MensRights22/10/18 01:28 PM
1

The title is inaccurate. The study found that circumcised men had a higher prevalence, but did NOT find a causal link between circumcision and HIV transference. There may well be another confounding factor. HIV may be more prevalent in communities that practice circumcision because of different sexual practices, for example.
/r/MensRights22/10/18 10:58 AM

No, equating it to FGM is banned, because it is used as a form of whataboutism. I don't agree with that stance, but that is how it is policed.

I believe that was on cringe anarchy. I'd stand by it. You're far too stupid to be a bot or a Russian plant. Just a useful idiot for the GOP. I'm guessing from your last comment that you're in college. Makes sense that you have no experience of the real world.

/r/MensRights27/09/18 11:39 PM

That's because you were talking about remembering two different things idiot. The first is historical abuse and the second is a specific date a few months ago. You are really clutching at straws to defend this piece of shit.
/r/MensRights27/09/18 11:36 PM

Yeah, they're finally growing a spine, it's great. You can't respond in good faith to republicans who have refused to play by the rules of the nomination system - if they had, Merrick Garland would be on the SCOTUS now. I see you're on the side of the guy who said he would vote to nominate even if he was guilty of gang rape tho. They sure are equal those two sides. Wanting an investigation, and admitting you don't even care if your political patsy is a rapist. Reeeeeal equal.
/r/MensRights27/09/18 11:32 PM

Stick you in front of an audience of millions and you'd probably have trouble remembering basic details as well. I saw one relatable person and one unhinged idiot who refused to answer if the FBI should get involved, and simultaneously managed to call it a left wing plot but that the person making the accusations wasn't politically motivated.
/r/MensRights27/09/18 11:19 PM

That's the supreme court nominee. I was making a joke about Jeff 'I do not recall' Sessions. If you were at all interested in how memories of historic abuse present in real life, they actually match up a lot better with Ford's testimony.
/r/MensRights27/09/18 11:12 PM

Sure, all them guilty pleas are just a hoax. That's how you can tell they're not real, because the people actually admitted it.

/r/MensRights27/09/18 10:59 PM

No, it's very typical of people who have undergone historic abuse to remember some details very clearly and have others be confused. This would have been explained by a prosecution expert in a real trial.

/r/MensRights26/09/18 09:17 AM
1

If you're going to accuse someone of being condescending, it's best to spell it right. I'd always try to engage with people in good faith, but your argument here is basically nonsense, so I'm done now.
/r/MensRights21/09/18 05:27 PM

No, and once again I'm surprised you need this explained. It's almost like you're wilfully misunderstanding. Or you could just be very stupid. There are some alt right trolls in this thread. Those are the ones who would dislike any homoeroticism.
/r/MensRights21/09/18 05:19 PM

This type of coaching has been allowed during WTA matches since the 2009 season, but coaching from the stands remains illegal. No, the average in both cases is the same. In females, there are more people grouped around the average level. In males, there are more outliers at both ends of the spectrum. Both of these situation will result in the same average.

The only person I called racist is the one making race baiting videos who is mentioned in the article. You've actually said that considering skin colour at all is racist, the change to making it the most important part is new. And again, you are the one calling me a racist, in order to silence me. Not working well is it?

So what you've done there is call me a racist, then when I say you're just doing it to shut down discussion you've invented something I didn't say, and called me a racist again. Good try but fairly transparent.
/r/MensRights11/08/18 10:57 PM

I think that's the fourth time you've called me a racist. At this point you're projecting even more than Trump when he called Hillary a Russian puppet. If you can't talk about any generalised groups, what are you doing on mens rights subreddit? Surely trying to talk about men as a whole strips them of their individuality and is necessarily sexist? That follows pretty sharply from what you've said about grouping people by skin colour.

One of the most effective tools to perpetuate racism is by painting anyone who talks about it a racist. If you never have your actions examined you can get away with anything you want. There are generational surges in support of the left wing going on, as all the racist old people die off.

White privilege was the one we were talking about, but yes I agree Asian privilege exists. You will have a general assumption made about you that you are more educated if you're Asian. At no point in these answers have I said white people can't comment. At no point have I said I hate white people. Those are words you're seeing that aren't there. Acknowledging a privilege doesn't take anything away from white people who have achieved. It doesn't say anything about any person in specific. It's abo…

I think that's one of the cases that can definitely be labelled toxic femininity. If forming strong social bonds is a feminine trait, then using those to shame someone for wearing an outfit twice is the toxic side of that coin.

Yes, there are privileges associated with pretty much every ethnic identifier. And gender, for both males and females. And age, for any specific age range you can mention. And for being the majority in a country. So if you accept all those exist, do you also accept then that white privilege exists, or is that the one identifier that you are sure has no privileges attached to it?

I'm not sure why you think I'm denigrating an entire race. I'm just acknowledging that on average, white people often have an advantage over other ethnicities. That's not an attack, and if you take it as one then you're being a bit of a snowflake. As for the nonsense about ghettoising cities, I've lived in Birmingham and Manchester, and you're either straight up lying or repeating a racist talking point you've heard from someone smarter than you.

Yes, we can absolutely talk about Jewish privilege and Asian privilege. I'm not sure why you assumed I would be against that. I'll happily talk about all the female privileges as well. The person I was responding to doesn't think white privilege exists, and if you accept all those other ones you need to accept white privilege is a thing as well. The problems you've stated about poor white boys aren't clouded by privilege talk, they're clouded by people refusing to acknowledge minority privilege,…

Rich privilege is also a thing, and can often cross over with white privilege. There are many kinds of privilege, including black privilege, female privilege, majority privilege, and any other identifier you can think of. I'm assuming you would agree with that? So why throw a tantrum when I talk about white privilege? Is it more difficult to acknowledge when you benefit from it?

So because some other countries have a different ethnic make up, there's no white privilege in any country? I just want to make sure I'm understanding here. I've put forward the position that white privilege exists in some countries and your response seems to be that there are other countries where it doesn't exist, therefore my whole argument is flawed. So if something doesn't exist in every country in the world, it's ridiculous to say it exists. There are countries which are not run by dictato…

Yes. I think the historical exploitation of other races has concentrated a lot of wealth and social power in the hands of some white people. This means that on average a white person can expect to be richer and have more social advantages than people of other races. I think that the default view of a person in many western cultures is white. This reflects the main demographic, but can mean that anyone of another race can miss out on seeing people like them represented in mass media, whereas a wh…

This is not digging up dirt, these are videos she has posted herself, under her own name, in an attempt to get attention. I would love for there to be a men's march I can attend that is not run by a racist, and if there was I would be on the front line. But the part I disagree with most in your post is your statement that not believing in white privilege or multiculturalism doesn't make you racist. White privilege is a way of describing the advantages that a white person generally has in society…

Do you think there is no such thing as white privilege?
/r/MensRights10/08/18 05:19 PM

I disagree. I think you absolutely need to pay attention to who is organising and leading an event as that is the way it will be portrayed in the media, and the impression you will give to third parties who are judging the motive behind the march. MRAs have a bad enough reputation already before providing a racist with a large platform.

I just don't want to support someone who is actively racist. That's not a big ask. And it's also not a small side issue - if they're that racist then I inherently don't trust they have the right motivation on other issues.

Among Watson’s most popular videos, “The #metoo movement has ruined workplaces”, “White privilege does not exist”, “Why you aren’t racist for hating multiculturalism”. Tbh she sounds like a racist. White privilege definitely exists, and hating multiculturalism can definitely be a sign of racism. There are plenty of non-racist people talking about the issues facing men, hopefully one of them will organise march soon.

Yes, so any attack along these lines would have to be because of established precedent or parliamentary ruling. Not constitutional. Thankfully we still have the EU declaration of human rights signed into law, which would probably be the best avenue to go along. Just have to hope the Tories don't get their wet dream of revoking it.

I don't think he's incompetent, just absolutely self centred and amoral. I did vote remain, but I recognise there were principled people on both sides who advocated what they honestly believed. BoJo was not one of those - he's a liar who saw an opportunity for personal advancement. None of the issues we are currently experiencing have anything to do with the US, so I don't know why you think that.

That is a law being proposed by a right wing government, so will not be targeting all right wing people or they would be taking down their own site. I would consider myself left wing, but I can see there is a world of difference between right wing, and far right propaganda. If you are trying to put them in one basket that is a worrying sign.

I am not arguing for a 50:50 ratio in prisons, and I don't think anyone else is either. I understand what you are saying, that women are less likely to commit crimes, so there will be fewer female prisoners. However, my point is that if you compare like for like crimes, a male is more likely to be sent to prison or at least receive a longer custodial sentence. That is not impacted by statistical analysis of the general offending rates, it is working out the average within each sex for each indiv…

The problem with your argument is you are assuming it is currently equal, and this move will allow for the natural imbalance based on inherent differences. At the moment, women get lighter or non-custodial sentences for crimes where men are routinely locked up. This move by the government is going to exacerbate that issue, not make it better.

I get that part, but there are a lot of people in this thread saying this shows the separations aren't a real issue. That stance has nothing to do with men's rights.

That source is annoyingly vague, but here is an excerpt from a Q&A document distributed by the FBI: Q: Has the definition of Rape changed for the NIBRS? A: The definition of Rape for agencies reporting via the NIBRS has changed only slightly, since the NIBRS already allows for all factors relevant to the collection of data under the new definition of Rape. Under the new rape definition, the FBI UCR Program will aggregate three sex offenses in the NIBRS into Rape in Summary for publication in Cri…

That is incorrect, there was a change to the federal laws regarding rape so that it now includes 'made to penetrate' as a way of being raped. Interestingly this change was supported and championed by the feminist lobby. https://m.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/eric-holder-fbi-rape_n_1189145

I know that any rational person reading this thread can see that you've wished harm on me, then tried to make me sound manipulative when I called you out. At this point it's clear you are desparate to be persecuted, and happy to throw around mental health slurs, so there's not much point continuing. In closing, go fuck yourself.

If you read my original post, it's from actually speaking to people who identify as feminists that I am basing my argument. Ao my argument is based on real world, first hand knowlexge. As opposed to just shouting about it on the internet. BEEP! DISHONESTY ALERT! Are you 5 years old? deserve to be treated extremely, extremely badly by their surroundings Ah, so not only a child, but a nasty vindictive child. Yeah, no, it's actually not virtually all feminists, and by insisting that you know this you're being as much of an idiot as the extreme feminists that you are railing against. I guess since you're so absolute in your beliefs it only needs one counter example. For the most recent International Men's Day, there were widespread messages of support all across the internet, from male and female commenters. The overall message was of acknowledging men's issues and raising awareness. Since you've insi…

I have seen all those arguments put forward on the internet, but it is not all feminists, it is just a loud and extreme minority. I've spoken to several in real life who happily acknowledge the issues faced by men, they just don't know much about them.
