Fair enough- I’m actually thinking about taking the whole post down entirely because all this conversation is exhausting!

I think you’re missing the point- I’ve done plenty of drastic changes to my appearance (like I said- piercings, hair dye, etc) but it was never a problem until now

Sorry if it came across that way but I’m not looking for advice! I wanted to help prove the whole pretty privilege thing. I’m actually quite satisfied with how I look and just wanted to point out that people treat others based on whether they find them appealing to look at. I’m not looking to make myself appealing to others because frankly I like how I look and don’t need others to be attracted to me to make myself feel good. I have listed some unpleasant things that have happened as a result bu…

Not disclosing the state for privacy reasons but our average temp this summer has been around 107. The shaved sides means I don’t get the horrible head sweat!

Exactly. I also find the argument that it’s an evolutionary/biological reaction totally inane. We evolved to live in small hunter-gatherer societies, but do we do that? We evolved not to eat highly processed foods, and to run long distances, but here we are. Still doing that. With modern society and technologies we totally go against so much of what we’re evolutionarily and biologically SUPPOSED to be doing, so that argument is total crap.

Oh that it’s so drastic? It’s extremely practical for how hot it is where I live

I’m primarily attracted to females so not being attractive to the opposite sex isn’t a problem to me. The point of this post is that pretty privilege is real and that your appearance effects how people treat you are treated (in this case, as a female) just for not being sexually appealing to people. Like I said in my post, a professor told me my appearance was inappropriate. This professor is a 50 year old male who has never batted an eye when I got a new piercing, dyed my hair crazy colors, etc…

Very true. Sometimes as a biological female it feels like you can’t win. You’re a prude and undatable if you don’t dress up/put out/etc, but as soon as you show sex appeal, you’re a cheap slut.

And a huge part of it is finding the right people! If you’re being judged/rejected based on appearance, you’re around the wrooong people. Yeah, the majority of folks are shallow idiots, but not everyone is!

I mean none of this is a complaint I made this post to prove that pretty privilege is real. Personally I am 100% satisfied with how I look. Not my fault that nobody around me approves. Just wanted people to know that no, it’s not always that you just “Need to work on your personality UwU so wholesome”, but that the majority of people are shallow and judge people based on arbitrary concepts. I’m going to put an edit on this post to tell people what I really want them to know- find the people who …

It’s mostly annoying! Just means I’m in the wrong town and been around the wrong people for me!

Makeup can be a really cool thing! But when used to promote personal expression, not to further the agenda of “you need to be attractive to have worth”!

I’m just confused about people getting upset- the whole point of this post it “you were right, incels and femcels. Pretty privilege/Chad privilege is real. And people are getting mad. I know people judge based off aesthetics. I may have gone about it the wrong way but I was just trying to tell people: You’re right. It’s not just that you need to “work on your personality”. The majority of people are shallow and cruel- it’s about finding people who don’t judge based on that!

It’s okay! It is the reality of it- pretty privilege is real. I’m actually very excited to move somewhere where nobody gives a shit what you look like

Well thank you, I actually think you got it pretty spot on. I’m just confused by the fact that I’m telling people that they were right about pretty/handsome privilege and they’re... getting angry??

That is a really good suggestion! However, I’knot bothered enough to go back. I feel more happy with myself than I have in along time, and this haircut is so much more practical with the heat where I live (not to mention I don’t have to style it or mess with it at all). If the people I around can’t accept me sheerly for my aesthetics, the. I’ll just find better people to be around!! I mostly wanted to prove the point that pretty privilege is a thing :) thank you for being kind and rational!

I don’t understand what you’re arguing at all. Just because I cut my hair doesn’t mean anything other than the assumptions people make. The point of this post is that I’m saying pretty privilege/chad privilege is REAL. Because the reaction to my actions (even by people who have been close to me for years) is not based on my personality, therefore invalidating the ‘its your personality’ argument. They’re based entirely on my aesthetic value.

Damn. Ok. Let me back up. I’m in an aggressive mood and replied inappropriately after taking your post the wrong way. Nobody insinuated that I was trying to attract a partner- that was my fuck up from misreading. However your ad hominem attacks not only were uncalled for, they also break this subreddit’s rules. What I’m trying to get across is that societally, this type of haircut/change in appearance is considered deviant behavior and lessens your value as a person simply based on the fact that…

So you’re agreeing that I looked nice when I looked feminine, but not now that I don’t look feminine? And that justifies the treatment?

Okay?

It’s ridiculous that people of any gender are persecuted socially by close friends, family, or in situations where it’s completely inappropriate to point stuff like that out (ie: in the middle of a college chem lecture) for appearance
/r/PurplePillDebate18/09/20 08:01 AM
1

.. the point of the post is that when you stop looking feminine a lot of people no longer want to associate you because they either think you’re unattractive or that your appearance is socially unacceptable

They’re extremely conservative. The reasoning in its entirety being (paraphrased): “Nobody will ever want to have grandchildren with you. You look like a dyke, you’re a devil worshipper, and you spend more time worrying about school and the internet than spending time with other people”

I mean maybe my overarching statement isn’t true but the shit I listed happening to me as a result is true

Yeah I live in the U.S. where if you don’t preen people treat you like garbage because apparently your appearance is what gives you redeeming value

Can’t relate I love feminine men and also I don’t treat people like trash because of how they look. Also I don’t get your point? This post wasn’t about attracting a partner. It’s about the fact that because of a minor change to my appearance, I’ve been told I look inappropriate in an academic setting in the middle of a chem lesson, people I’ve been friends with for years have stopped talking to me, and my own dad has said I look ‘fat and unhappy’ because of a haircut. HAIR.
