Can you argue that the experience result be precisely the same if the cover instead featured a 5'2" skinnyfat Indian guy?

I agree. You should find someone you find attractive, and they absolutely have to treat you well. If either of those terms aren't met, best to keep looking and stay single until you succeed.

Agreed, however at the same time, if you're well into your thirties, out of shape, with multiple kids, working an entry-level job, living with your parents, and you say a guy has to be 6' tall with a six figure income and six pack abs, it's just sad.

Yeah that sub is pretty much an echo chamber with a remarkable lack of self-awareness. Yes, there exist women with senselessly high standards for their partners but not themselves, but you have to wonder about a dude who spends his periliously brief life curating and shaming them with a bunch of other dudes.

There seems to be this idea that women are pretty much all pro-choice, and it's just the evil (rich/white/right wing) men who are trying to control their bodies. (Even though there is no political movement I'm aware of to discourage women from getting breast implants, IUDs, tattoos, dye their hair, etc, etc, etc, the only time people want to control womens' bodies is when there might well be a baby inside of it.) In truth, polls indicate that opinions on abortion are pretty much 50/50 for both g…

He also said that they want and like it when you're a billionaire, which sounds mighty like consent to me. It's a caddish and silly thing to say, but you're allowed to be silly and caddish among your buddies... ergo, locker room talk.

I think both are justified in crying to be honest... Dr Ford is discussing a very painful memory and Judge Kavanaugh is defending himself from a potentially career-ending accusation.

Yeah, a broken clock is right twice a day... but it's still broken. Innocent until proven guilty should always be the standard, white, black, brown, young, old, man, woman, wealthy, poor, Democrat, Republican.

Jim's wife had gradually cut his friends and family out of his life. He learned later that she had told his sister and mother he did not want to see them ever again. He missed his mother's funeral. That was painful to read. Not all abuse is physical.

It's annoying that right wingers seem to be the only ones who are concerned about these kinds of things. I am a civil libertarian, first and foremost, with rather significant left wing leanings... I think universal healthcare, for example, is a great idea and I think that climate change is real and a real threat to millions of people... But I also don't want to live in a McCarthyist society.

The point of public school, first and foremost, is to protect its employees (teachers, administrators, etc) which is why you see heavy handed "zero tolerance" policies. The next priority is to breed fear of authority, compliance, and conformity.

I lost all respect for him when he blatantly lied about opposing the Iraq War in the VP debate of 2012, when in fact he voted for the Iraq War. And then there's his dismissive stupidity when it comes to guns. It's a shame. I'm probably left on most issues, but these idiotic things prevent me from voting Democratic.

In fairness, maybe the event happened. It certainly seems possible, as rapes do happen and often involve alcohol. If there's enough evidence to suggest that it happened, perhaps Kavanaugh should be tried. It's very unfortunate that victims of sexual assault sometimes wait decades before coming forward... it makes the job of the criminal justice system extremely difficult, although it has succeeded in major cases (Cosby for example). If there isn't evidence... for better or for worse, I say, inno…

There's a difference between making the generalized statement, "this group prefers to focus on the family rather than the rat race," and "this group is a bunch of pigs and rapists." I, for one, think that men can learn a heck of a lot from women who balance their careers and family lives. (Then again, women often only CAN do that because they are subsidized by their career-oriented husbands.)

Plus, this quote kind of made me shake my head... I wish we could view consent as something that’s less about caution and more about care for the other person, the entire person, both during an encounter and after, when we’re often at our most vulnerable. Look, sex and romance, and life in general, can be painful and difficult. With that said, there is not a man alive who has an obligation to continue to be romantic with anyone. Nor is there a woman. And I bet the author of this piece has blown …

Things have not changed. One of the featured speakers at the "Women's March on DC" drugged, kidnapped, tortured, raped, and eventually murdered an old man over the course of 30 days.

I think that men, and even boys of a certain age, should be able to make such permanent decisions about their bodies at will. So if you'd like a circumcision, you do you by all means. I don't think someone should perform a totally unnecessary surgery on babies whose non-consent is evident in the volume at which they scream. This applies not only to circumcision, but to things such as piercing ears... your body, your rights; your kid's body, not your rights.

It's pretty sad, because a lot of men I respect get all giggly and stuff when they hear about these situations. One of my former bosses kind of had a "boys will be boys" reaction to a similar story, so I asked him if he'd like one of his young daughters to eventually date a boy who was "seduced" by a woman decades his senior, as if it's such a positive, "manly" experience for a boy to have, it must clearly prepare him to treat people, include women, with great respect and dignity going forward. …

“Donna got the million dollar lakefront mansion and full custody of the children with child support, but no spousal support, in exchange for the house,” Hans Mills writes. “Everyone at the time agreed that my spousal support obligation had been met fully.” He notes the deal also provided Donna with a built-in revenue stream because the house contained a separate apartment that was rented for nearly $2,000 a month. Over the next few years, a feud simmered between the once-happy couple. Three year…

I'm not even conservative, but for fuck's sakes, if you are a politician, you have got to be willing to debate people. And it's not like Ben Shapiro is a psycho, extremist, or bigot, he's just a staunch right winger. There are literally millions of people in the US with views similar to his, and Ocasio-Cortez will probably represent hundreds of them in her tenure. She has to understand how they think and address their concerns in order to do her job.

It's still kind of hard to believe anything. To look into the night sky and conceive that human beings went there (nearly FIFTY years ago!), or to even contemplate the risk of sailing across oceans without GPS, radar, or communications... dayum.

Hmm, the title is pretty rageworthy, however... “There is a possibility that she could teach adults now or in the future and we want to preserve that possibility,” Defense lawyer Andrew Stol told the New York Post. “She still is a talented teacher and has those skills, and I don’t see any reason to destroy her ability to make a living and to contribute to society in a positive way.” The social studies teacher confessed she had oral sex with a 14-year- old boy on “multiple occasions and in multip…

False accusations are rare in the same sense that murder is rare, as it harms about 5 people in a hundred thousand in the US. Yet we have massive law enforcement and criminal justice systems designed to combat murder, because it's such a vile thing that ruins lives and families. Just because it's rare doesn't mean that it doesn't happen, or that it doesn't hurt good people.

Yeah, the whole idea that men are too emotional is... novel, I guess. But it doesn't make sense, since a lot of people who are trying to defend or excuse her rants are saying that they are excusable because they are simply emotional rants and not evidence of deep-seated bigotry.

Right... in the Delhi rape case, six men raped and murdered a woman (and also beat up her male companion). As a result, thousands and thousands of men and women protested aggressively, in some cases with hunger strikes, and the country was so shaken that New Year celebrations were muted. That is not a rape culture. If anything, there is a rape subculture, which is at odds with the normal culture.

It's so bizarre though... people say that men are jailed more often because men are more likely to make choices that land them in jail, okay, fair enough... but the moment you say that women are more likely to make choices that don't get them extremely good paying jobs, which leads to the wage gap, they don't want to listen.

That's honestly probably what usually happens... the majority of domestic violence is reciprocal.

Also, assuming that men are these psychopathic killers in sheep's clothing is sexist as fuck. It's also absurd... men are far stronger than women, in general, so if we really were horrid people who wanted to bully women or worse, we would succeed. Fortunately, not only are most of us decent people, but most of us will violently resist male aggressors of women.

In my opinion, what Bill Clinton did was very sleazy... he was a married man in a position of authority over an intern decades his junior. When she let him know of her "crush" on him he should have gently but firmly turned her down. That said, it takes two to tango. She was a willing participant in everything they did, so she cannot be a victim.

A single closed, or open-handed strike may not seem like a big deal, but... it's unquestionably assault or battery depending on semantics, dozens of such incidents over the years can result in lifelong medical issues that definitely decrease quality of life, taking long nails to the eyeballs can severely injure or maim you very easily, allowing one strike to go through can embolden an attacker to strike again or repeatedly, and there's also the general principle that those who cast the first sto…

I agree, I think the real "activism" comes from doing the right thing on a daily basis, in a series of small acts. Like if someone starts to snicker at domestic violence against men, you give them the stink eye and say that that's not cool, or if someone brings up the wage gap, you say that there is definitely sexism against women out there and should be illuminated and eliminated wherever possible, however much of the wage gap seems to come from lifestyle choices.

Could be that they feel guilty over past wrongs. Me, I've got a colorful sexual past, sure, but I don't initiate physical contact or even explicit flirtation unless I'm absolutely sure it's desired. If I don't get positive vibes, I gradually and politely deescalate things and then leave. TL;DR: If she's not "Hell yes!" then I'm "Hell no."

Right, the reason I gave 1% as a floor is that one of the unreliable studies suggested that right. So I figure the 1% floor is totally fair and if you can convince people with that figure, 2.8% is just more ammo.

Under the circumstances, how are they going to measure this? It sounds like the 2% false rape report number touted by feminists, it has no basis in fact. Totally fair question, I should have cited my source... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paternity_fraud#Occurrence If there are better numbers out there I'm open to hearing those, however I think it's relatively fair to say that the rate is minimum 1%.

To be honest, though, it takes a very unique kind of personality to kill it in the show biz, and I'm absolutely convinced that celebrities have very different expectations, one might say entitlements, than the rest of us. Claims of sexual misconduct should be taken seriously, skeptically, and without prejudice one way or the other.

What's really shocking is that the rate of paternity fraud is said to be about 1%... at the absolute minimum. That doesn't sound like much, but it's orders of magnitude higher than rates of murder, for example, and if you have a country of a million, 1% is 10,000. What's really shocking to me are those cases where a man is commanded under pain of imprisonment to pay child support to a child that is demonstrably not his. I don't know how someone could say, without nuance or caveat, that we live i…

At the same time, if there are no ramifications for lying, this kind of thing is bound to happen. And it's a shame... it hurts the falsely accused and actual victims of rape as well. Claims of rape should be taken very seriously by the criminal justice system. They should be investigated and those who are found guilty should be punished severely. Those who are not guilty should be left alone. And those who are exonerated as a result of false accusation deserve our sympathy, and their false accus…

Right... it's great that extreme Islam is essentially not a threat to daily life in the West, but the alternative is pretty horrendous. And I'm not a woman hater by any means, I'm kind and courteous to everyone and happy to respect women who earn it and I've worked under women I have admired and learned a lot from. But the way men get treated in the West is often depressing. It's also not that it's women doing terrible things to men, often it's men who are perpetuating or causing these absurditi…

It's very sad, but what's even more troubling is the question, "what happens next?" I'm definitely a critic of many things we in the West do, especially our governments, but I'm unabashedly proud to be a Westerner, when the alternative is to be brutally oppressed in China, or to have traditional Islamic standards forced on me at the point of a sword or Kalashnikov. We have to stand strong by the values of peace, tolerance, free expression and open dialogue if we don't want much nastier civilizat…

It also probably has something to do with that women are the majority of college students and graduates (and there are tons of programs to help them be so) so men are kind of getting left behind in the dust... so you have younger women making more than their male peers (on average) and women typically aren't interested in men who make less than them. Anecdotally, I know a single couple where the female half earns more than the male. For the rest, the men blow their wives out of the water when it…
