It certainly is a broader social problem. When men and women are each portrayed as you describe, and it's perceived that only men can be the instigators of violence and abuse, it's not just unfair to men, but it also undermines the the strength of women

You were right about the content of a debate, except that rather than ironing out differences in each side to center on that point of contention, you've essentially been starting a new debate each time.
