I agree with that being the case when you are not married. However, getting a permanent form of birth control when your partner may very well want babies. The letter of consent is more or less proof that you talked to your husband/wife about it. You ARE married, and big decisions like this should be made together. I agree with ninfan. Just like there are women who will get their tubes tied without warning their spouse, there are men who will do the same. This makes sense. We shouldn't be upset about this, we should be upset about whether or not women also need written consent

Strangely enough, I believe I read somewhere about a case where a woman tried to charge her husband for rape, but it was overturned for the same reasons that this case won
