In my life, what I have come to realize that with so many reactions against homosexuality is that so many have been conditioned to accept it as disgusting and vile and abnormal. Add in the fact of a gay being Christian, that is considered even more revolting. But alas, so many of those who cherish such viewpoints haven't really given themselves much time to willingly interact one on one with a person who is gay.

Even in the "community", as LGBTers would call it, there are plentiful problems. From my own experience, much as women generally expect men to be hounddogs and want nothing more than sex, the same expectation has been laid out upon gay men. As a gay male, I get the same weird vibe all the time from society whenever I am around kids. So, therefore, I stay clear of all kinds of kids of all ages unless their parent(s) and/or guardian(s) is/are present and accepting. Or it might be just one of my social maladies being paranoid of what lots of straight folk think of us gay men...
