I agree. I'm a social person who goes to many social events and met a lot of people. There is NO hookup culture. People do sometimes hook up, but most people's sex lives are extremely dry and boring. I met a few people who actually had the sort of sex life people think about when they think 'hookup culture'. The only places where I found this are communities whose core is being sexually open (BDSM, poly, and such). But they're very niche.

I think the term is helpful in analyzing how men can be misogynistic and objectifying. But I think we NEED to also talk about the Female Gaze, how women objectify men (including gay men and trans men) and so forth. The problem is not criticizing men's misogyny, but the denial of women holding often similar views.

Many feminists are, actually, traditionalists. When they say 'patriarchy hurts men too', it is a way for them to avoid examining their biases. I found that many feminists are actually fairly classists, ableists and racists. They rarely if ever talk about supporting men who don't fit the strict masculine guidelines. If anything, they end up enforcing this sort of 'rigid masculinity'. If you're a feminist and you refuse to examine your own misandry, you are what's wrong with feminism.

That's why I can't get with a totally anti-feminist agenda, and I don't see feminism as the enemy. Sure, feminists are awful when talking about men's issues - and I'll criticize them if they're spitting bullshit or if they actively pushing to hurt men. Conservative views, specifically religious ones, tend to view sex and sexual desire as evil. Giving birth is good, but sex is a necessary evil we must commit to do that. Sex on its own is never considered a good thing. I was raised in a Jewish environment and studied Augustine a bit, who's one of the most prominent Christian thinkers.
