I personally just got used to it. the first couple were strange, it felt weird to not do anything at all. The day came and went and I got used to that, just another day that goes by, and life continued the next day. then I sort of stopped caring about holidays all together. eventually made it a thing again with a new circumstance. its just peaks and valleys

I caught my ex leaving one night at 3am. I watched it on our interior security cam. She woke up my step daughter and made her sit downstairs by the door until she got back 2 hours later. Likely in case I woke up and came down and locked the door. Its pure betrayal and it's almost impossible to look at them the same. My dad has been telling me this since I was a kid. Marriage has never made sense to me, it is a raw deal. Have a ceremony or celebration maybe instead, but like you say the Government becoming a third wheel in your relationship, no thanks. Feel like some sort of "celebration of union" needs to become to new norm.
