Of course they still date, they still want what everyone wants. To be loved and cared for, genuinely. It doesn't seem like he loves you and care for you genuinely but you keep pursuing him. Why would he stop? You're waisting time and energy on someone who seems halfway involved in the relationship. Even if he has trauma from previous relationship, he can work on this and try his best. There's no such thing as "too repulsive" go look what "Jean-Paul Sartre" looked like. He had a wife and managed to "abuse" female student with the help of his wife. By that I mean : charisma and confidence and working becoming an interesting person will always work better than just looks. It only gets you so far if you're boring or a pos.
